So this is something that came to me while watching last stream about new trial in the Hunting Grounds (btw. I love the idea of trial connected with Hircine). And the part where we would be running from an chimera sounds like an perfect material to be re-worked as an new mini game for ESO. In it players could be racing each other (either in duels or groups) on prepared tracks with obstacles and power ups. What do you think guys?

I think they'd have to disable the paid/time-gated speed boost from mount training, and probably the ones from skills, CP etc, but if they could do that and design a course where player skill is the deciding factor it could be fun. Maybe include obstacles you need to jump over and things like that.

For sure it will require a lot of work and planning, but I think it is more than doable. Not to mention that people might enjoy proper horse racing in ESO.

Given how often Ember says about wanting to race, being able to actually do it would be great.

Same. Either way I'm standing tall on my own two feet on my mount while it's moving. I guess that could be just as striking.

Horse Race fixing will be the new meta😂 Im not opposed to having Eso Horse races, I guess it could be similar to any other racing game or FFXIV Chocobo Races.

After playing Forza Horizon 6 I had that feeling of "what if instead of cars I could run around here with my ESO mounts!"
So, seeing this post now feels a bit like my mind got read XD

Also, I recently run around both on feet and on mounts on ESO roads, going many long routes traversing regions, thinking to myself "would be nice to have something like a 'courier' system, where you have daily quests that send you throughout the map and that fail if you teleport"

You can do this yourself, no need for ZOS to implement it. It can be done in open world or in one of the larger houses.

One of my guilds did an on-foot race across all of Tamriel not so long ago.

I do miss the horse racing in RDO. BDO too for that matter. They really did it right. But then too, their respective mounted travel mechanics were top notch as well.

I’ve been wanting racing for a while but since you can’t mount in houses, its impossible to set up a track!

Thankfully, not every new feature has to directly impact the PvE/PvP meta. Some additions can be purely for fun.

ZOS would need to make the powerups for the mounted race. I don't think you can mount in any of the player homes, so the Battlegrounds powerup furnishings are off the table.

ZOS absolutely should make mounted races (and time trials!) into a proper feature. ZOS could even tie achievements and rewards to getting the gold medal in certain races and time trials. This would give us a reason to revisit old zones, too!

I think I can mention it here… years ago, when my guild was still alive (rip.), we used to make Werewolf Racing. Rules were very simple. We were starting in one of the werewolf shrines (where the transformation timer was paused) and our goal was to reach an certain point (most of the times other side of the zone) while still being in werewolf form. The winner was an first player who reached the finish line in werewolf form. It was fun because we had to be fast but also maintain werewolf form. If we lost it we had to recharge ult. and transform again if we wanted to get back to the race.

At the moment ESO doesn't really have the mechanical depth to be a good racing game. The mounts control fine, but that's about it. They all handle the same, they're all equally fast, you can't customize them, and the game's physics when going over bumps, jumps, hills, or going downhill are wonky at best. So they'd have to overhaul the entire mount system to make horse racing anything other than a novelty that most people will get tired of after 30 minutes. Lest we forget how Tales of Tribute turned out.

I sure agree that physics are wonky and would need a fix, but "they all handle the same, they're all equally fast" - that's called balance; don't bring subclass-class mastery balance dramas to mounts please! XD right now it all depends on skill...and luck with physics interactions

Better if they focus on the actual game than unnecessary mini games. Or how about a mounted version of ToT?
