Anyone know why the ability to play the lute was removed from the game?

The command is /lute, not /playlute.

Any further information? Hard to imagine how an emote could become an exploit.

They don't give information on what exactly exploits were to prevent others from trying to also exploit with them.

There was a hotfix yesterday to turn it off to prevent the exploit and to investigate accounts that exploited. I'd assume once the bug is fixed that the emote will return.

I know someone who experienced the bug........ it was a doozy and completely emote related!!

Luckily he asked about it in guild chat and we told him to report it asap and not use it again!!

He appears to have escaped a ban. :)

    It's temporary for a bug/exploit.

From what I understand it was allowing players to complete some quests without doing them.

When they added the endeavor system they started to use emotes for event triggers. I am going to assume some code for future content got included into the update and the quest it was targeting wasn't there so it defaulted to completing any quest of the same type.

Interesting! I noted some posts/bug reports on the forums saying their quests randomly jumped to the turn-in stage and they didn't know why. I hope they didn't get banned! :s

My question is this: What kind of bug or exploit did they find with /lute?!
    Are you serious!?

    /lute = Immortal
    /cry = 1,000 Crowns
/playdead = Teleport to the last boss?

    C’mon… oh my god!

It is a bannable offense to explain any exploit, as you are effectively telling others about it.

    On a completely unrelated note:

In Rockgrove, during the fight with the first boss, Oax, tanks need to be careful during the fight when it comes to using a charge skill. That's because during the fight, Oax has a temper tantrum and jumps up and down in place. When he does that the initial leap into the air animation that Oax does makes him untargetable for a moment. Using a charge skill at that moment can cause the tank to move through Oax and hit the mini-boss or other add, moving the tank completely out of position. This is a prime example of some of the animation problems in the game. Many mobs can become untargetable/immune to damage when they play their animations - U48 has turbo charged that problem.

If using a specific emote is the only reason you still play, you REALLY need to think about finding other reasons to play.

Also initiating a shield charge on an NPC as it despawns (such as the guards on the flags at resources in Cyrodiil) can cause you to get stuck in a charge animation for a few minutes and unable to mount, sprint, or anything else really.

it's a big thing i do before i go afk in game/tab out to do something on 2nd monitor is to /lute so i can have some bgm while doing stuff. I like how it's always updated to include new bard songs and such so it's a good variety of bgm. idk about only reason to play but it's my #1 used emote.
