Golden Pursuits - Choose which tasks to complete... Except not?

Taril

So, the current Golden Pursuits are up and to achieve the rewards you have to complete any 20 of the 29 tasks, making it more flexible than the prior one where you had to complete all 4/4 tasks.

Except, that for some reason, there are rewards tied to specific tasks as well. Meaning that you don't have a choice of tasks to complete if you want those specific rewards.

I'm here to provide feedback that I'm not a fan of this. It undermines the entire point of providing additional tasks so that a player can choose which ones to complete.

Yes, but you HAVE to do those SPECIFIC tasks to get the rewards.

Meanwhile the entire purpose of having multiple tasks for something like this is to provide options to complete tasks you are most comfortable with.

Thus meaning there are 2 conflicting systems. The overarching rewards that are flexible in how you choose to complete and these task specific rewards.

I believe they're saying they want things for free, and they don't want anything locked behind specific activities.

It's ok to lock things behind specific things as long as those are obtainable by everyone. And the locked out tasks (leveling a new character which may not be available to everyone) do not have locked rewards.

On PTS they had crown crates locked behind individual PvP tasks, for example. So we knew that specific rewards would be tied to specific items on the list back when this was still in testing.

    Nothing.

However, I dislike the overall design and would hate for something I do really want to be locked behind a specific activity despite the overall premise of the system being about having flexibility in what activities are done.

(At least while the entire system focuses around regurgitating existing content rather than specifically newly designed content)

Feedback about such decisions is not relevant simply to just this individual Golden Pursuit, but to future implementations of such (And any other similar systems)

I don't find it bad design at all. All of the options are from normal game activities.

Bad design would be locking them behind horrid RNG with horrificly abysmal drop chances. I'd sooner complete any of those tasks before ever having to grind dolmens/geysers/wb's for days on end for only a chance at getting a drop.

But nor would I like to see them just given away for essentially nothing more than logging in and doing whatever floats my boat until a notification pops up telling me to clicky a claim token. That would just.. well suck.

I haven't even looked yet how that new style looks like, but generally speaking, if there's one specific weapon style I'd like for roleplay reasons, and that one is locked behind PvP or a trial, I'd find it unfortunate. Doesn't change a thing if some other weapon styles are much easier to obtain, if that's not what I "need" for my character. Bad luck, of course, and everyone has to decide for themselves what they find worth the hassle (I have accepted years ago that there are a few things that would fit a character concept I have in mind perfectly, but are not obtainable for me), but still, more choice would always be appreciated.

I don't like the Golden Pursuits at all.

I would be happy to ignore them if the game would let me.

Two minutes into this current session, I'm interrupted with an obnoxious prompt in the middle of the screen akin to levelling, announcing a reward I didn't care about at all.

I had to claim to reward to get rid of the prompt and then get rid of the notification telling me about the reward I didn't care about.

Please let us disable this completely.

It lacks all the smart things they did to make Endeavors tolerable to those who don't care about them.

I really don't understand where is the problem?
The style pages are bonus rewards tied to specific tasks, it was similar when they added styles to zones, where every page was tied to something else, And also all those tasks are very easy to complete.
You have options to choose to complete the main pursuit.

Some people absolutely refuse to do trials and/or battlegrounds. It's fair to question whether any of those same people are also sufficiently completionist to be too angry about missing out on the maul or axe styles.

They lock a lot of similar items to these behind events that are chapter and dlc specific, essentially paywalls like the event that ended this morning, I don't see any outrage over that.

It's absolutely bad design. If they really want to say that we have free choice to do whichever of the normal activities on the list we want, then don't tie specific rewards to specific activities. If they really want us to do certain activities, don't pretend that we have free choice to do whichever options we want. Just come out and say that these are the activities they want us to do. This in between option is dumb, especially when some of the activities tied to specific rewards are activities that huge portions of the player base don't ever do, and don't want to feel forced to do. I'm specifically thinking about battlegrounds and trials here. Can I do them? Sure, but that's not the point. I actually like trials, but because of real life it's been a while since I had a group to do trials with. Fine, I can PUG one in the group finder, no big deal for me. For others, that could be a big deal. I don't like battlegrounds, though. I can do one anyway, but I'm basically just going to end up dying, and I'll probably ruin the battleground experience for my teammates. But I guess that's what ZOS wants.

The BG and the Home visits are the only ones I won't just get by doing my normal thing, some mostly due to leveling the new companion skill lines but hey it works this time around at least.

I hate the New BG system but hey just gotta do 1 this time around.

House tours I actually enjoy when someone asks me to come check out their work but it's not something I generally think about so will have to go out of my way to hit the 10 but at least with the home tours thing it will be easy.

Overall, it is a bit of a slippery slope, but they want everyone to try out all the things and at least there are some fairly easy to earn rewards attached.

I think it's completely fine to have a mix of things. The best rewards are all choose your own adventure. And there is some smaller rewards for specific tasks. I'm not happy about needing to complete a battlegrounds, but then again maybe I'll enjoy the new format. Now, I have a reason to give it a shot. I didn't before. If I still dislike them, oh well. If the new format fixes battlegrounds to be more fun for me, then that's awesome!

Either way, I now have a reason to find out. And that's a reasonable ask because this is a multiplayer game. Devs need to give nice stuff to all activities.

Normal Aetherian Archive took about 15 minutes, after I put up a listing in the Group Finder.

Also Battlegrounds require you to participate in a match until it ends (doesn't matter if you win or lose), you don't even have to kill anyone there if you don't want to, just run around the maps.

While I agree that RNG rewards are not particularly interesting (Especially RNG for LIMITED TIME EVENTS)

I'd also much prefer, you know, actual content be created for Golden Pursuits.

But as it is, the system is based around "Do existing activities X times". For which I'd prefer the most flexible and least demanding options because it's never going to be particularly interesting. It doesn't matter how many times you make the activity have to be done, nor what activities you force people to do. It will always result in being lame.

But at least with flexible and low effort options, it can be done and a player can get on with doing something actually interesting. Instead of trying to participate in content they dislike (And actively make worse because they don't care for the content)

    From the main pursuit:

    3x All Maker Crown Crates

A Frost Draugr rune gathering custom action

    A Nord Hero statue

    A Coral Bear mount

Then a set of Evergreen Saturalia weapon styles from specific tasks.

It does. I unintentionally completed a few of the pursuits by doing daily crafting quests on multiple toons, all of which popped into my primary for crafting.

Which is actually another reason I think PVP-related (edit: or generally grouping-related) tasks aren't a good idea. Imagine people who actually want to play battlegrounds get grouped with desinterested players who just want to get the pursuit completed all the time now for the upcoming days. Ruins the fun for everyone, both the people who want to PvP as well as those who don't actually want to but force themselves into it just for the reward.

Would make sense to give people a non-PvP alternative, so people who enjoy PvP can earn the reward that way and everyone else can just choose the alternative.
