Either way, I've said it a thousand times, most of the stuff in the crown store is ugly asf, radiant apex mounts are universally hideous neon monstrosities, and it boggles my mind that they make money if the cash shop beyond crowns from subs.

The way ZoS run the crown store is fine by me as its so easy to ignore.
This, I prefer more down to earth stuff or its fun like the shovel or hammer and sickle 😺
Only skin I run is an toned down henna skin who looks nice an hide vampire.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

What I feel is that ESO has great days coming with this lucrative business ^^

And, this is not entirely true.
You can get a mount with endeavors, and endaevors is gameplay

And you have sometimes free boxes

I remember watching that Azura video awhile ago, before the Rewards survey went out and ZOS began improving their distribution of them. Videos like that are the reason why there are so many new obtainable cosmetics in-game.

Speaking of which, here is something that people tend to forget or purposely leave out when shilling… this game is an RPG, and one that encourages alt-making. Designing your character is the ENTIRE point of an RPG no matter how much people try to argue that point. We all begin roleplaying the minute the character creator opens up.

When you have customized actions like that spectral blue pickaxe for mining, they are an obvious sale to a Sorcerer, just as much as a red glowing dagger would appeal to a Nightblade.

The overwhelming majority of cosmetics being sold are targeted to people designing the role of their character, sold items that develop your character’s identity and make the world more immersive.

Things that our ESO+ should be paying for.

Somewhere along the path, people became content with “Cosmetic Only” microtransactions, while that might be acceptable in a hero based shooter, it just doesn’t work in RPGs.

Let me preface this by saying that I'd love for more earnable rewards in-game, however, after you buy the initial copy of the game (and the base game is really cheap) it's essentially free to play, the subscription is completely optional and ZOS has frequently made older DLC content available for free, or given as a reward, so you can play a huge amount of content with that initial purchase. So how are they supposed to keep the game running, bring out more content, pay their employees etc.? If subbing is optional, then the only way is a cash shop, and you can argue about pricing (especially housing), but the model is like that by necessity.

Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

They did not remove the tag. Some players have a custom forum avatar from a different program they were part of. Zenimax did not take away those custom avatars. That is way cooler than keeping the class rep tag.

With video titles like "Endeavours and why everybody is angry about group content". A thumbnail of Todd Howard on a video about paid mods captioned "people will buy anything". Declaring the crown store issue gifting the final nail in the coffin from September last year (yet here we are). My personal fave is a video called "When a company is consumed by greed: Zenimax Online Studios", where 9 months later she's still making content about ESO.

Was he a Necromancer class rep, based on his profile picture? I was looking through the initial list of reps and didn’t see @Nefas on it and maybe that’s because the class hadn’t come out yet?

Officially we weren't "class" reps so I don't think there were class themed avatars for something like Necromancers. We might have had a wider range of pics to select from, I don't remember as I was happy with the EP themed one I had. I do vaguely remember me and others having the class rep tag while we a part of the program.

As far of the OP, I do agree there should be more gameplay driven rewards/vanity cosmetics. It not only would incentivize people to play the game more, but also offer another avenue to folks susceptible to gambling additions or who just don;t have much money who would like some of these rewards. I get it cosmetics are good source of income for gaming companies and ultimately they need that to pay the bills and hire good people. That's fine. But when gameplay rewards are neglected, I think it is overall unhealthy for the game.

It can't be including them. There is definitely more mounts in crates than 25. I own more mounts from crates than that and I am very far from owning all crate mounts.

Back in 2023, someone asked how many mounts we owned and I catalogued mine, just because I was curious of the breakdown.

As someone who did grow up playing MMOs without cash shops.... I find it a bit sad, but I also know that games that don't have a mandatory sub need a way to make money.

Now, I don't care for the majority of mounts that Zenimax designs and releases.... and I'm not really a "omg I must have that in-game thing or it's the end of the world" type of gamer anyway. So my biggest issue with so many things being in the cash shop really just comes down to it's influence on how players spend their time in-game.
I find it sad that there's barely anything to work for, something to push players to dive into a specific type of content or accomplish a certain thing to get something.... it's just "swipe your card, swipe your card". So many times I log into ESO just to log out because I truly really have nothing to do or work towards. And it blows my mind when I encounter someone who actually feels accomplished or like they're somehow great because they just spent hundreds of dollars to get the radiant apex they wanted.

But that video talks a lot about greed and how it impacts a game.... and honestly, I think it misses the main point. I don't think anyone is leaving or simply doesn't have interest in ESO because the mount they want is in a crown crate. I don't think a lot of modern gamers today will log onto a MMO and turn away because of a cash shop period. I'd say nothing like that is an actual issue, especially since I do think MMO players aren't usually the type of crowd to shy away from spending money on a game that they enjoy.... but instead, I personally find the real problem (from my own opinion and those I talk to about MMOs) to be the focus on cosmetics being put into the crown store or other merch being for sale rather than actual good, fun gameplay features/content being added to the game.... especially features/content players actually want, and even along with a lack of regular QoL improvements/bug fixes/etc.
*also want to add: I really noticed the focus on crown store goodies during Greymoor when I realized how small the chapter was and how little there was to do, yet every time I turned around there was some new stuff up for sale.

And I think we see time and time again on how Zenimax relies on the crown store UI and even other earnable cosmetic sources (event merchant, for example) as their main form of "content". I mean, seriously.... look at holiday events in other MMOs and it's crazy how many event specific features and things there are to do gameplay wise. But in ESO, it's usually just holiday specific cosmetics on a UI screen for sale or stuff you have to mindlessly grind for by doing existing content that's always there and we already do all the time (I will say; at least the Halloween event has evolved a bit over the years featuring the crow boss, etc).

The question of how does it make you feel is not the question that should be asked, in my opinion. The question should be “is having 95% of mounts featured in the game obtainable outside of gameplay fine or not?” The word mount could honestly be replaced with any cosmetic item.

There are some people on the forums who don’t care about these, which is fine, but that also doesn’t disregard the fact that there are very few rewards in the game that are actually obtainable through regular gameplay and not through the cash shop.

Endeavours exist, sure, but they are becoming increasingly more specific to complete and they keep upping the requirements of them to the point that people are starting to ignore them. Even if you do all endeavours every day it still takes months and months of doing them to even obtain one “cool” looking mount from the crown store, or a polymorph or whatever, and then you have to sit on them if you want something specific that’s not part of the current crate season.

I haven’t seen anything on Golden Pursuits so I don’t know how they will affect the situation, if at all.

I think it's fine that the majority of cosmetic items come from the Crown Store. All of the functional rewards (like item sets, Tales of Tribute card upgrades, etcetera) come from gameplay, so there's no issue with the rewards system in this game.

It'd be much worse if players could buy items which would give them a sharp advantage over other players, which is the case in some other games out there.

Seriously, this boat is so far down river that it doesn't matter anymore. Objections were made. Objections had little impact. This is not a hill that the players are going to win.

That's not even the right question.

The right question is "Are there enough [item] obtainable via gameplay, outside of using Seals of Endeavors?"

Percentages of Crown Store vs gameplay is completely irrelevant. If there are a million total items and 95% are Crown Store that's still 50,000 items to earn via gameplay, which is a TON.

The main issue would be if there simply is enough to earn in the game as a stand alone feature. It doesn't need to be compared or related to the Crown Store in any way.

One might have a concern that items may be directed to the Crown Store instead of being implemented as earnable in game via actual gameplay - But that's simply going back to the whole MTX debate in which there's not a whole lot that can be done given that such things bring in so much revenue that they're never going away (Even more so ESO which tried the mandatory sub method but found it unsustainable)

Thus, where cash shops are concerned, we can only hope to ensure that enough content is provided outside of the shop that we can be satisfied. While allowing whales to buy all the gaudy trinkets they want from the cash shop to fund everything.
