I want some time to actually play through the story. I have 3 characters that still haven't completed many zones and I really enjoy questing. I don't need constant distractions.

I also don't need another currency and rewards. I have so many seals now and little I care about to spend them on. What do I need with more?

Please... let's just get back to the game.

But you don't have to do what you don't want to do. It's not a tax you have to pay.

    Never heard of FOMO?

I don't have FOMO. There are many things I don't participate in, especially events, because I don't care about the rewards they offer.

But non-stop back to back events are just too much and now there is another currency and tasky reward system... I'd much rather have more actual game content.

The thing with fomo is that it'll make me stop caring about parts of the game. The more content/rewards I'm locked out of getting because I didn't have time during an event, or now, golden pursuit, the more I'll think "whatever, my efforts do not matter anyway" and just find other things to do with my time than eso.

I don't mind rewards that I end up never getting because I didn't get good enough at sunspire, or that I don't have time to farm mats and get rich. It's still there if I decide to pursue it and put in effort. I just mind the missing out permanently on things because I had other stuff to do a given week, or because I wanted to do other stuff.
This feels like a sort of predatory mechanic to keep me engaged, not for my entertainment, but to boost play time. It's not a great way to think of player engagement. It should be positive player engagement, not just chores that end up making getting people tired and make us need a break from eso.

What currency? Either you complete it within the allotted time, or you don't. There's no currency to accrue or save up.

    Here's how it look in-game

Looks interesting. It seems to be weekly according to the timer above. What about they merge it with endeavors? There are 8 tasks that do not give anything special. Since it's 36 seals per day plus 240 per week they could make these tasks to give us 100 seals considering you can only complete 8 tasks out of 12 (three of them have special rewards aside of the milestone ones). They could also change that amount for special occasions like they do for specific in-game events or DLC giveaways.

Obviously none of us can say for sure, but the week long timer might just be because there’s a week between patches.

You need to complete 2 pursuits out of 12 options to get 3 crown crates. One pursuit is "Complete 2 quests" and one is "Complete 5 quests". I can't imagine anyone can go a full week and not complete 5 quests. That is practically a 1-day login reward. That is not bad at all. Yeah, you can go hardcore FOMO and try to complete 8 of 12 for the big reward, but it looks like even without trying, most players would get 1 or 2 rewards.

Maybe live will be a lot more demanding and PTS is a tease, but as it is, it feels like you really will be rewarded for doing what you were gonna do anyway. You'll get rewarded more for being an OCD "gotta-catch-em-all" person and going outside your comfort zone, but you will still get some rewards even if super casual. I think it is reasonably well-designed based on PTS. You won't go home empty-handed if you are someone who does not do Trials or PvP.

If PTS is reliable as a guide, then at least these are rewards we can work towards if we choose to do so. Time-Limited RNG does not seem to be in the frame.

It's still another task for rewards.

Would you rather grind out dolmens/geysers/WB's with horrid RNG chances? Or utilize this change, that alleviates that?

It's not like Golden Pursuits is an ongoing and persistent activity. They pop when ZoS decides it's needed. And the beauty of it is that it can be utilized for any and all events. Doing away with the mind numbing grinds that are Event Rewards today.

I get why they call these Golden Pursuits now.

Seems to me that this is a targeted engagement system that they can activate on special occasions and when they need more players in the game.

    Neither.

I'd rather go back to the focus being on the story rather than rewards.

I love everything I've seen about this new system so far. Free Crown Crates and collectibles for playing? Sign me up.

I do enjoy the Endeavors system - some days it's the only reason I log in - but the gains are so slow, the system can feel... not very impactful.

It'd be fun to have a really tangible reward for doing some activities. I like the idea.

I think it's permanently enabled? But of course they could lure in even more players whenever needed by giving out especially interesting rewards.

The whole thing makes me wonder if player numbers have dropped much, as they now feel they have to do this. Either that, or it's another "we throw easy to program tasks at people to keep them busy instead of creating more real content" thing. Which isn't any better.

Well, speculation has been that player numbers are in decline. Personally, I dunno.

I am just amazed that they decided they needed more stuff like this in the game. I would think that Daily and Endeavors would be enough, unless they have an idea of moving all of the special rewards out of those and into this new thing. Maybe if they do that, the pressure will be off to log in every day for the Day 21 shiny?

I know people are complaining that there aren't good enough rewards, but I am not sure that this is an answer to that.

I’m willing to give them a try if there are some that I can do along with my other tasks or with slightly more effort.

I agree with the argument for more content but we have already got all we are going to get, I’m afraid.

Many will jump at the opportunity to get three free crates and the almost guaranteed disappointment contained within.
It's another 'trick' that will only partially work. Many won't care or even notice.

I remember a while back on one of the ESO Live episodes they said they were working on more REPEATABLE content for the game designed to give people something to do for longer instead of once-and-done story quests. That may not be the exact wording, but it was how I took it, and this sounds exactly like what they were talking about, along with dailies, dailies, and more dailies.

At the time, my own personal opinion was that they meant they are putting more automatic systems in the game and doing less creative one-time stories that takes writing and creativity to save time and effort on their part and keep us hamsters on the wheel. 🐹

They need to get rid of the high maintenance players that demand stories and zones and new things to do that aren't all grindy or they won't fork over the shiny coins. They need more people who are satisfied with things like Daily Rewards, ToT, Infinite Arena, and Golden Pursuits, and to a lesser extent, Endeavors. They need people who will grind events until their fingers bleed, and who will spend money on ESO Plus and buy Crown Crates with bandaged fingers. These things are important when the game heads into retirement. ("Golden" years? I now understand the choice of name. )
