I think I blanked out during the stream but do we know what golden pursuits are? Is that like a new currency or an event or?

    From the ESO news article:

"Complete challenges, earn rewards! A brand-new activity and rewards system coming with Update 44, Golden Pursuits are dynamic, one-off campaigns (accessed from the Group & Activity Finder) that allow you to earn additional rewards during special limited-time windows. When a Golden Pursuit is active, you can complete a batch of curated, unique activities to claim in-game items while working towards a special capstone reward.

Rewards will vary but can include collectibles, items, in-game currencies, and more. Keep an eye out for the first Golden Pursuit campaign sometime after Update 44 launch."

I'll admit I'm not thrilled. I already have daily and weekly endeavors to do, and there are a lot of events. Now they're bringing in something else that I know is optional, but that I'll experience FOMO if I don't do. I'm hoping this means they'll reduce the number of events to maybe 3 or 4 a year. Or maybe it won't be so bad and I'm concerned for nothing, but I do like to just play the game occasionally without feeling that ZOS is telling me what to do.

    Kudos for the article 😊

And yeah depends how the implement it. I'm definitely not keen for another FOMO activity...

I am fine with a battlepass system so long as it is tied to the ESO+ and no more purchase is necessary. If it needs a purchase with or without ESO+, it is going to hurt the game even more.

I don't mind this and even thinks that something good but only if it will implemented in healthy way:
    1. Full month for completion each cycle of challenges, so everyone can find some time to do this. We don't more FOMO, it's enough already.
    2. Reasonable amount of things to do - we don't want to exhausting grind.

It may be very good or terrible idea, depending how it will implemented.

Monthly or weekly makes the most sense to me. If it were longer then it's going to be a grind, and if it's shorter the activities would need to be glorified daily quests. That said, they could do something similar to the reward tracks in GW2.

To me, it sounds more like these "spotlights" with free Crown Store stuff that we've gotten this year. IE, earn an achievement get a free item--but instead of an achievement, it would be more like a monthly-size endeavor or something.

Nothing to do but wait and see, I guess : p

This sounds like WoW's trading post in which you have a monthly reward track which you can unlock by doing activities. You earn a currency you can spend on the monthly selection of cosmetics.

    I’m intrigued.

I’m guessing it’ll be something similar to endeavors. I’m sure it’s not gone unnoticed by ZOS that a fair number of players will prioritize endeavors (and also that LTO cosmetics will inspire people to grind like their lives depend on it, for better or for worse), so this could be another way to drive interaction with the game and interaction with various systems (i.e. PvP) that could use more people to get into them.

I hope they have some example stuff on PTS so we can see what they’re going for.

Sounds a bit like No Man's Sky 'Expeditions' - extra activities that give rewards and new gear. Often they are very story-based.

Reading this reminded me of those.

I don't know why people are complaining; more in-game sources for rewards that isn't the crown store sounds good to me.
I never understood the whole FOMO argument. You will never get EVERY collectible and honestly, nobody would care either way if you did or didn't. Just chase the things you specifically like.

There is already a similar system with Fallout 76. I'm interested to see how they develop it and if they will be making stuff that is usually crown crate only available as rewards in game for in game activities. I do think it will likely be an ESO+ exclusive system, which stinks, but they need to get more people to opt in or we'll keep seeing more and more stuff monetized.

That's the issue, some people do want to get everything in games, be it achievement points, items etc. so FOMO tactics, crown store etc. are actively going against such people's collector role and their aim in the game. If you can miss out on stuff why bother in a first place.
A lot of people also want meaningful rewards, not a shower of mediocrity that has nothing to do with activity. Read it like getting achievements and associated rewards in dungeons, those are themed and distributed according to the difficulty (it was like that, not much recent years because people do envy and do despise people who do better than them).
And people don't want to be forced into activities they do not like too much, as it's fine guiding new players to try PvP or something else even though they might think they won't like it changing their mind in a process but for people who decided, for example, that they won't engage in ToT under any circumstances aren't gonna be happy with some limited time cosmetic locked behind it cause devs want more engagement with dead on arrival features.

Endeavors are already kinda similar to 76 Daily/Weekly Challenges with the difference being that you earn Seals instead of XP for the Season Pass(although that XP directly translates to Tickets that you can exchange for rewards).

If I had to guess the ''Golden Pursuit'' rewards are most likely going to be in-game stuff similar to the rotating IA Merchant, with maybe a unique costume/outfit style/memento/bodymarks/etc as the capstone reward.

Battle pass might actually be the reason for people to start quitting the game... assuming that something like this will ever appear in ESO, regardless if it will be a part of ESO+ or not.

The reason for this is that for the most part, battle pass nowadays is associated either with F2P games or P2W games or mobile games or overpriced games with predatory monetization. Something like this simply does not fit into ESO. So if I were ZOS, I would be extremely careful here.

But even if it not a battle pass, I am seriously worried that it might be just another FOMO-exploit based system. Game has tons of activities and after they introduced Endeavours, there is less time to do actual content of the game. I am worried that with Golden Pursuit, it will be basically another layer of "play as we want" instead of "play as you want" and there will be close to no time at all to do actual game content.

PTS Update regarding the golden pursuits:

    Golden Pursuits
A new feature designed to give players even more ways to earn in-game rewards will make its debut in Update 44 – Golden Pursuits! This new feature will be dynamic and appear during special limited-time windows.
Participation in Golden Pursuits will allow players to earn special account-wide rewards including items, in-game currencies, and more. When active, a selection of activities will be available to complete and appear in a special menu within the Group and Activity Finder. As players complete Golden Pursuit activities they will unlock milestone rewards along the way, all while working to earn a special capstone reward. These new activities won’t always be available but when they are live, a notification for Golden Pursuits will appear on the announcement panel. Players will be able to track specific tasks as they work to earn the capstone reward.
The first Golden Pursuit campaign will go live sometime after Update 44 rolls out to all players, so be on the lookout for an opportunity to earn great rewards!

Okay, so does that mean each time you complete one on the list (like you complete 5/5 quests), you get 1/8? If so, that's quite a bit to do in a week, depending on which ones you choose. On top of endeavors.

And given that what's required for endeavors has been inching up (used to be 20 WBs, now it's 30, used to be harvest 8 nodes, now it's 12, used to be 6 PD group events, now it's 10, etc.), I expect golden pursuits to inch up too.

In any event, I don't think I'll be able to do both this and endeavors, so I guess I'll have to choose based on what the rewards are for the pursuits.
