I always use it when I learn something new or gain more insight (on the nose!) about whatever is being discussed.

A third option of 'I dont use it at all' would have been good to have here.

To me its like the whole teabag controversy. Some think its just fine, others do not. I myself have no problem with it, but I am still aware that there are some who do. So I dont engage in it, unless with only close friends that I know wont be bothered by it.

Same with 'insightful'. If I dont know with certainty how someone is going to take it, I just dont use it. It really is that simple.

Although not strictly ESO related, it does relate to these message forums and as there seems to be some disagreement on what the "insightful" button is supposed to convey when replying to a post, I thought it would be interesting to see how other posters see and use this button.

I think it's important that, as posters, we are aware of how our opinions are seen by our ESO peers, if only for the sake of transparency (but that is just my humble opinion).

Every once in a while I'll give an "insightful" tag to a totally rambling, incorrect or highly inaccurate post just becuse the post is offering insight into the poster. But normally I only hit the insightful button for posts that have technically informative information and help others with the game.

Using the insightful button in a negative way usually comes across as the opposite of what the clicker intended. If this poll is accurate at all then most of those that see an insightful click perceive it as the reader had a positive response.

I don't ever use the Insightful button for anything other than something I felt was insightful. I definitely don't use any of the buttons as a substitute for disagree. If I disagree, I post with another viewpoint to add to the discussion (which I am guessing is the preferred behavior on the forums).

The button that I do use in multiple ways is "Awesome" but still both with positive intent. I will use it for awesome content, like an in depth analysis of stats/theorycrafting or a gorgeous home in a housing post. I will also use it as a substitute for LOL if someone posts something that strikes me as exceptionally funny or clever. But I don't use it sarcastically (like awesome as LOL because you are being serious but I think you are so far off it is funny type of reaction).
My #1 wish for ESO Today: Decouple achievements from character progress and tracking.

"I voted for XYZ in the last election, but only as a prank since I don't actually support their policies at all, haha! Joke's on them, right? Right?"

there's no both option, but the way that it's intended 90 percent of the time
