This happens every MYM. Pre-MYM you can go in and stock up on quests and no one will pay any mind. Literally walked by people of the opposing alliances before because everyone was just stocking up on their quests. You can also stock up on tickets in the previous event and spend them this event, or just not buy anything at all. I'm not even bothering to get tickets anymore.

I'm 100% a PvEer, but I enthusiastically (tho without skill!) join in with Cyrodiil for Mayhem events. I despise IC for pretty much all the reasons mentioned here tho. For several years I'd go in and complete all the area dailies on 3ish characters a week or so before when it's totally dead. Then you never have to set foot outside the base for the event, just turn them in one a day. Recently I haven't been so organised so I'm doing the Arena quest each day on a quiet campaign at a quiet time and almost never have a problem just using a little caution. The rare times I do, I just switch to another (swap to a Cyro one and back to avoid having to get back to base and leave) and so far that's always been enough.

The same can be done with the scouting missions too btw, if you have enough characters. I geneally have one completed on a couple of characters before the event in case I'm short of time any day.

Tbh I feel for PvPers who have to put with so many PvE events over a year, and get so much hate for the PvP ones. The least I can do is just jump in when they come up and if a few make a bit extra AP/Telvar from me it's all to the good :)

I really never understand the sentiment. I've literally never once actually had to do any PvP during this event. Get in, tickets. Get out. Rarely takes me more than four minutes. The only time it takes longer is when the map is painted yellow or red and I have to ride to Bruma (which can be also avoided by just parking your character in the outskirts and logging in during times when the campaign isn't poplocked).

But there's basically two easy ways to avoid fighting if you don't want any of that. One is a perma stealth nightblade that can stay invisible forever. The other is a perma-block troll tank that is so much effort to kill no one will want to waste their time.

Here's a link just such a build I made in another post recently. It's not perfect and it can die. But if you are just up against the lone ganker in IC they'll be wasting their time on you. https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/comment/8155926/#Comment_8155926

I'm going to state the obvious here, maybe not the most obvious.

Imperial City is split into 6 Districts over 4 Campaigns, that player can't be in all 24 districts all at once, you can leave and try elsewhere. If you're spending an hour and a half trying to complete one daily that's kind of on you for running into the brick wall. I've been doing a daily a day for the event in IC and it takes maybe 5-10 minutes depending on population/need to hotswap. I'm sorry you had a bad experience, but as they say, discretion is the better part of valour.

There is also other solution if you OP have an issue with getting ganked. Buy or craft invis potions with healing, maybe also speed or preventing knockback as extra prevention for getting trapped by enemy players.

Use another character that have better tools for mobility or skills like NightBlade or Sorcerer with Bolt/Streak or Ball of Lightning (teleport mobility skill). Ask when you are in a campaign or in IC if there are other players that also are doing Daily quest for tickets and join them. When you are grouped up and close enough for getting progression in quest stages then it will also be faster to just finish that one ticket for IC.

You don't need to kill other player to get this done (if you don't want to pick quest which tells you to kill X amount of Y type of players etc). There is a lot of PvE Daily quest to progress and you get pretty good loot including currency (even Telvar stone from only doing Cyrodiil).

IMPORTANT! Always move Telvar stones to Bank when you are in the Sewers of IC to avoid loosing them from getting killed. Make sure that you have not picked up Daily reward from Crown Store log in and go directly to IC to be killed, as you get a large amount one of these day during this event. Bank that amount as fast as possible.

You (OP) have also access from PvE to get Wildhunt mythic which will increase your mobility speed which can also help to get faster around (especially when you are sneaking to hide from hostile in IC). Get Gallop passive from Assault line for max out mount speed which also work in PvE.

As EdjeSwift have described you are not forced into one Campaign which make it possible to change into any Campaign that have less active player on enemy Alliance and during this event ZoS have increased Campaign so you have more option to go to maps with less camping at quest hubs. You can also pick up Daily quest (in PvP) from most sources (NPCs and bill boards) in both IC and Cyrodiil (I haven't played BG so I don't know how that work for this event).

You get two tickets from one Daily in Cyrodiil and one ticket from IC for a total of three. So if it is too much camping in IC, change to Cyrodiil as you get at least two tickets there rather easy.

IC is going to be the place that’s a biggest headache to earn tickets during the event, which is why many people complete these ahead of time and turn them in during the event. I had no problem completing the districts earlier in the week, but decided to try completing some of the IC dailies yesterday and was killed by every opposing player I came across, regardless of not fighting back (I knew I wouldn’t win so might as well try just holding block, but one can’t be upset at being attacked in a PvP zone).

The majority of the tickets (2 out of the 3) are earned completing Battleground or Cyrodiil dailies and of those, scouting is probably the easiest, especially if you build for speed and stay off the main roads.

Please remember that you are not being to forced to engage in any activity that you find stressful, even to get the reward you want. You need a total of forty tickets to unlock the Onyx Indrik (the preliminary nascent can be unlocked before or after) and there will be TWO MORE EVENTS to earn these tickets in before the next indrik rotation.

Wow, definitely chill with a book and remember to breathe. Much as I like getting tickets I don't pvp and that's it. It's counterproductive to get upset about it. This is the game they sell, it's not a 100% for anyone at all times and the sooner you make peace with that fact the sooner you can get back to enjoying what you DO like in-game. Peace.

    ^This

I'm glad ZOS does this event for the folks that like PvP. I am not into PvP. I have in previous PvP events tried standing on the platform in the Arena district. Takes quite a while to get the Imperial City event ticket. For me the perma stealth nightblade works best for Imperial City. Sneak around a district, do the PvE quest, most days no one sees me, while I am moving around quickly while sneaking. See Speedy G. build.

And the same perma stealth nightblade on a fully leveled horse doing a town quest in Cyrodiil, going at full gallop to get to the quest location and back to the quest giver, and in sneak while off the horse doing the quest and turning in the quest.

Just sit it out. I haven't pvp'd for about 2 years, and I cba to do it now. So I'm not. I also want the onyx indrik, I have the base mount and one berry from the last event I took part in. The indrik will return. Either that or get up at 5am one day, and sneak around an empty campaign with a vamp build, or something. Pvp is part of the game, so it makes sense that out of all the events they run, at least 1 or 2 are pvp themed.

"I want the shiny thing but I don't want to put any effort in getting it". It's very easy to get tickets during Mayhem. Scouting missions for Cyro, and doing IC on a NB character (you can port to a Cyro campaign for a quick exit too). Not to mention there's usually plenty of groups around this time doing the rounds in IC or doing overland PvP. It's a non-issue and if you hate it that much then there's the option of farming gold and buying the tickets via crown gifting.

Just do the arena daily on a ranged character. Nobody will be able to kill you. If you jump down into the fray, then expect to be killed. But they have dailies with little to no chance of dying available to PvE players.

This is the best way to do it. I PVP and I still stock up on imperial city quests before hand because I'd rather spend my time in Cyrodiil having massive keep battles. I was ignoring other players of other factions while doing those quests because I knew they were doing the same thing I was, and I just didn't care to engage. I want to be done and out of that pit as much as they do.

No CP IC is a ghost town early in the morning. This is when I go in to pre-load 3 characters with quests for the event. Saves me a lot of time so that I can play in the PVP modes I actually like.

Another vote for stocking up on the quests before the event starts. And if you can, do it as far away from prime-time as possible. I start stocking up as soon as the date for MyM is announced.

My strategies for quick tickets if I haven't stocked up. They've been covered a bit, but sometimes a different write-up makes things clearer:
In the Arboretum, I have a gap closer, a DoT, and a fear skill (I tend to use Stampede/Templar charge, and Turn Evil. NBs also have a nice fear skill.) Charge in to a flame atronach group, DoT, and then fear them. Then I'm free to kill them without opposition for a bit, and can usually kill them before fear wears off. I avoid the xivkyn that wander between groups. Once I'm done, sprint or sneak to a door, go through, and transfer up to Cyrodiil. I can do the Arb in 3-5 minutes on my hard hitting toons, 5-10 min on my weak toons. This year, I happened to have enough toons to stock up for the entire event. I won't have to go upstairs at all.

(Stamplars are ideal for this strategy. Charge / dot / fear / jabs to death / repentance to refill stam / Repeat. Depending on the dot, I fear first.**)

My trick for Cyrodiil if I haven't managed to stock up on quests: I have at least 1 toon on every alliance. I grab the scout quest in a campaign that my alliance is totally losing. The less is my color, the better, so I have a decent chance of getting a scout quest that's not at the complete far end of the map. I transfer to a campaign where my alliance owns most of it. Do the quest. (25% of the time, I can transit directly to the keep with the scout quest, 50% of the time, I can transit to the keep with the resource that needs to be scouted, 20% of the time I have to run for 2 min. 5% of the time I'm screwed and have to work.
Transfer back to whatever my HOME campaign is, and turn it in.*
With toons on all 3 alliances, between the added campaigns, I can almost always get it done quickly (5 min, tops for the actual scout. More to check which campaigns are owned by which alliance, most of which is loading screens. Coffee refresh!). If I can't get it done on my CP toons, I jump on a trash baby toon and check those campaigns too.
It sounds complicated, but once you get it down, it's fast and stress free.

I'm not a fan of Mayhem, but I've learned to live with it. It's a fair trade, given how much PvE the dedicated PvPers have to do during the other events (or to get ink, or trials sets, or or or).

*That way, if I happen to hit tier 1 before month's end, I still get the transmute stones.

** I do this every day during non-MyM, to get the merits. I get sniped about once every two weeks. I just stand and block. Usually I get killed, sometimes they back off and leave me alone. I slot that fancy bow emote for that, since I'm on console and can't communicate any other way.

As others suggested, I did the quests ahead of time on one of my AD characters and then on one of my EP characters. The second one, we did during a guild event. There was a bit of mayhem, as there were enemy players around and being stealthy in a group doesn't quite work, but it was fun.

When I was on my AD character, I met enemy players who were also just doing the dailies and we mostly left each other alone, but I did die a few times. If one district got too hot, I went elsewhere for a bit.

After I was done with the dailies, I ended up fishing for my last fish there. Died twice during that part, but got my last fish in under an hour!

It wouldn't be so painful if there was a normal balance, although there are enough cheaters in the game too. People are so sauverified at the expense of newcomers and it's not going anywhere. This game is not so popular that for pvp seriously taken up and fixed everything. The same tasks from year to year to get a ticket to go to the pvp, where you do not want to go because there are just such people who have learned all the subtleties of bugs, cutting animations, sneaking. For anyone saying you need over an hour to do an IC daily for the event ticket...

Go to Arena. Pick up the quest. Kill enemies near the target NPCs from the base. Wait for them to respawn. Repeat.

Yes it will take a little while because you must wait for respawns. But the only way you'll die is if you stand on the edge while waiting, and it will take way less than an hour.

Best option you have in that situation is to change District or change Campaign Mode. That guy might be unpleasant, but Imperial City IS a PVP zone unfortunately. You want that one Ticket and then be off for the day and he wants his point and Tel Var stones you could be providing. Everyone wants something in there.

You can also consider doing a simple, quick PVP build. 33k resistance, 40k+ health, a bit of Critical resistance, with lots of Stun, CC, and burst healing. As I find out, no one likes fighting tank!

I hate gankers and don't buy the "just skip it" idea.

Note that you can stand in the Arena zone in a specific protected spot and get credit for freed citizens. AD is 2. I don't remember the others. This does rely on others freeing the citizens when you are in the right spot, something that may be slow at times.

This would be sub-named "feed the gankers" if marketing was honest.

What gets me is the unkillable players that can stand around the platform and nuke those on the platform who often cannot even fight back. Even if they can, the player on the ground doesn't seem to take hardly any damage. Clearly it is not balancing attack and defense, since they have both.

And some seem to thrive on ganking other players.

Arena district is your friend, you don't have to pvp at all usually and it normally takes under 15-20mins. Not a big fan of pvp myself but I don't find it very difficult to get the event tickets, style page, each day now that the pages drop from coffers and not IC bosses (that sucked IMO, but was also why some of those pages were so expensive).

That only works when it has reasonable population. You can wait much longer for others to clear the quest goal (free citizens) sometimes. Though some gankers seem to play all times of the day, so going down when it seems empty may not work either.

There's always a no-CP instance where one of those factions has a commanding lead, and then I jump in. Just wait for your moment, and you can be done with both in mere minutes.

Not always. Sometimes the same faction has control of many places. And just more numbers don't always help. I got caught a few times today by low pop red forces running in a group of 10 or so. Also note that some quests, like clearing the skeletons in the middle, can be very challenging with no-CP.

I accidentally AFKed the Arena quest today. My elderly neighbor called me asking for help to move a piece of furniture right as I had accepted the quest. I left myself logged on right at the edge of the safe zone. When I came back, I was surprised to see I was at 10/12 prisoners, and the last two spawned just after I sat back down.

I'm not suggesting anyone intentionally AFK this quest, merely pointing out just how easy it is to knock it out without any PVP.

I enjoy playing Cyrodiil but I really dislike IC, I'll usually prepare 13 daily IC quests before mym. This time I hadn't though, but Cyro queues mean I'll always have some time before I can actually start playing the game, so I go to IC while I'm waiting.

Enter with zero TV, go up the arena ladder, take quest, check your surroundings for enemy ballgroups and wait a minute for them to pass if there are any. Jump down and start releasing prisoners, don't provoke enemy players (a lot of them just doing the quest as well). Sometimes I'll get jumped by a small group of enemies. Just die, respawn and get back to the arena, repeat until the quest is complete, then I find an enemy and let them kill me. I'm happy to let them have half of the 500 or so tel var I have at that point if it gives me a free teleport to base. I started with zero TV, so nothing lost.

Unless you enjoy the ganker or the ballgroup playstyle, IC just isn't fun. But running dungeons for the undaunted event or world bosses for a zone event isn't much fun for a pvp player either, it cuts both ways. Nobody is being forced to do these activities, you can
    • skip the tickets for one event, it doesn't mean you won't have access to the collectibles through the rest of the year.
    • find the most painless way to get your ticket(s): cheese IC arena for mym, FG1 for undaunted, ...
    • create a build that fits the activity, and be open to the idea that you might enjoy it more than you thought (it's how I got started in Cyro).
That being said, I wouldn't mind if zos changed the ticket conditions for mym to doing any form of pvp content. I think there would be less complaints about this event (from everyone, not just the casual/PvE player) if you could get all your tickets doing a single activity (cyro quest/ic quest/battleground).
