My understanding is that when you get an orange square the item should be somewhere between the inner and the outer white lines, but this one was outside the outer white line. It only cost me 1 extra turn but wth? Is it me or is it the game?

Orange means that at least one part of the antiquity is between the inner and outer lines (and also that no part of it is within the inner lines).

In this case, your antiquity was straddling the outer line, so part of it was inside the outer boundary and part of it (that you revealed) was outside.

^^ Yep. I'm guessing the antiquity occupied a 2x4 area in the bottom right corner, with 2 cells to the right of the upper yellow square, 2 more cells directly below those to the right of the lower yellow square-- both of those rows falling between the inner and outer white boundaries-- and the remaining 2 rows of 2 cells below those, outside the outer white boundary.

Trouble is, anything to the right of the lower yellow is outside the boundary of the other orange. I can see what you guys are saying about crossing the border, but there are 2 orange squares to account for. I cant see any shape that would have a part inside both outer borders but not fall on the lower yellow square.
edit: I guess a backwards L would work but I dont think it was that. I should have screen shot the end.

In that case (second orange square), it was probably a sack-shaped antiquity, with 2 cells on top and 3 cells on the bottom, like a mirror image of the following:

    OO
    OOO

Was it a style page? I think those have the sack shape. Anyway, the leftmost cell of the bottom row would be within the inner and outer white boundaries of the second orange cell.

I never had any idea what those white lines meant.

Actually, I'm not sure whether any of the style pages have a sack shape or are always a 3x3 square shape. I know there are antiquities with the sack shape, but can't remember which ones-- the repeatable zone freebies, maybe?

For those orange squares to be accurate, the squares above and to the left of the green would have been covering the antiquity. That is consistent with the sack, which would also have occupied two more to the right on the edge.
