I'm used to hearing players complain about the lack of choices, rather than the abundance of them.

There are a lot of choices, but I'm sure even the basic Soul Magic ones are enough for most people. Players don't really need to buy and use more Grimoires if it'll overwhelm them, but more options for those players who want them are welcome.

I've been collecting the scripts because I like collecting things. I haven't tried to scribe anything and I won't until one of my builds recommends certain skills and tells me how to scribe them.

Adding more when it's already a nightmare to figure out what I need is overwhelming to me.

Class Skill Lines (Nightblade, Sorcerer, Dragonknight, Templar, Warden, Necromancer, Arcanist)
I'd prefer Scribing skills for classes. But now that I think about it, that's mostly because I'm interested in a decent melee spammable for Wardens in the Animal Companions skill line that can deal Bleed or Frost Damage (among other things, of course). Another temporary summon for Necromancers could be fun too I suppose though.

Maybe the next batch of Grimoires will encourage people to update their builds? I've personally updated some of my builds with Scribing skills, so I'm looking forward to having more options to think through.

I understand how overwhelming it felt at the start. As of now, I have a rough idea of what I want to do with these skills and which builds I want to use them for, but that may change if a different Script combination for any particular Grimoire works better for a different build. This feature is definitely tailored to players who like to experiment with their builds, so it's understandable how daunting the system must appear to those who would rather use someone else's builds.

That is so not me. I find the entire process of experimenting and figuring out what goes with what to create some unknown effect torturous at best. The last thing I want is for it to keep expanding.

I'd likely use the Werewolf Grimoire(s) on principle. Surely there's some build (PvE, PvP, or otherwise) which I would benefit from having the flexibility of the Scribing system on a Werewolf build?

I'd likely use the Werewolf Grimoire(s) on principle. Surely there's some build (PvE, PvP, or otherwise) which I would benefit from having the flexibility of the Scribing system on a Werewolf build?

I'll elaborate my use cases for a Werewolf Grimoire:
    • For trial dummy parsing, I don't use Roar at all, so I'd replace Roar with this Werewolf Grimoire. I get Major Savagery from Oakensoul, so I don't really need to slot Ferocious Roar, and I'd be irresponsible to slot Deafening Roar for the passive Major Protection, because my heavy attacks would then taunt. If I wanted higher parsing numbers, I'd use a Grimoire which can apply a damage over time or a damage taken debuff to the enemy.
    • For PvE content like Dungeons, Trials, and Arenas, I tend to not use Piercing Howl, rather opting for a heavy attack build with Werewolf Berserker, Oakensoul, and Ferocious Roar, as it's much easier on my sustain. I'd want a Grimoire which can apply some debuff to enemies, preferably AoE, so that I can kill enemies faster.
    • For traveling in the overworld (such as between keeps in Cyrodiil, where there are few enemies) I would like a Grimoire whose Wayfarer's Mastery Signature Script could proc the Blood Rage passive, extending my time in Werewolf form. I'd probably replace Piercing Howl, because I don't use it in serious PvE or PvP content, due to the ability being nerfed and being a projectile which can be dodged.
    • For PvP content like Battlegrounds and the Imperial City, I'd replace Piercing Howl for a Grimoire which can deal instant damage, as a replacement spammable that isn't a projectile. Maybe a biting attack would be the most appropriate for this.
    • For Werewolf Tanking, I'd like to have access to other important buffs via the Scribing system. Also, I'd scribe a Grimoire to apply a taunt, so I wouldn't need to heavy attack. Finally, I'd scribe an ability which increases my damage blocked, because Werewolf doesn't benefit from weapon passives and thus has no bonus to damage blocked from One Hand and Shield passives.
    • I'd also love the ability to crossheal others, for PvE or PvP, as a Werewolf Healer. There's no ability in the toolkit which can heal others yet, so introducing this possibility via a Werewolf Grimoire would be very much welcome.
    • And finally, for roleplaying near others, I would like a way to extend my Werewolf Transformation timer, such as via activating the Blood Rage passive. I'd love an ability that doesn't require a target to cast, so the only law I'm breaking is casting Werewolf abilities, not assaulting anyone.

I don't see why it would. That'd be tough to balance if the effect of the skill was determined by the potion used. It would also make no sense if we scribed the skill to deal damage, but it consumed healing potions as ammo.

I think a throwable potions Alchemy Grimoire is a great idea if it doesn't actually consume our potions. It'd be like how Silver Shards doesn't need to be reloaded with crossbow bolts.

I wonder whether the next few Grimoires will be released on Q4, or if they'll be released with the Chapter next year? I'd normally expect Chapter features to get updates on Q2 with each Chapter, but this year we're getting Companions in Q4, like how last year we got a new Tales of Tribute deck in Q4 with the Infinite Archive.

Then I have to wonder how many Grimoires per year will be released, and what ZOS plans to do once all of the skill lines have at least one. Surely we'll get more than one per skill line (like how Soul Magic has two) but for how long will Scribing be continually updated?

We got tribute decks in q4 in both 2022 and 2023 so that'll likely continue same as how we've been getting antiquities each q2 and q4 (even 1 in q1 2024 but the Ayleid mythic might have been planned for update 40 originally)

But Grimoires seem a bit too big to get the same amount of them every other quarter. maybe 1 or 3 if it does happen? if not i think it's likely we'll get another 11ish grimoires next q2.

There's plenty of skill lines left that don't have any active skills or have less skills than other lines(like only 1 vs 5 in others) so i think it could continue for like 5 years at least

I think it would be worthwhile to get more Soul Magic Grimoires in the future, alongside ones for the other skill lines which haven't been covered yet. Wield Soul and Soul Burst are great templates for generic single target and area of effect skills, though it would be cool to also have a projectile-based skill (like Templar's Sun Fire or Solar Flare abilities) whose damage type can be changed.

Magic in other schools, such as Conjuration or Illusion, could be given Grimoires in skill lines like Thieves Guild or Dark Brotherhood (Illusion) or Mages Guild (Conjuration). I'd imagine we could also get new temporal magic from the Psijic Order, such as a blink skill (akin to Streak) to represent a skill which skips you forward in time.

These are just a few ideas for Scribing skills which are more "magical" in nature.

What kind of Grimoire would you all expect for the Support skill line? I'd expect some sort of skill which could apply some sort of buff to nearby allies.

Such a skill would benefit from the Support skill line's Magicka Aid passive, granting +10% Magicka Recovery for every Support ability slotted. Since such a Grimoire would be the 5th non-Ultimate Active Ability for that skill line, then it would finally be possible to get +60% Magicka Recovery if you were to slot every Support ability on that bar.

From what I can tell, warden class skill is mostly usless in pve so I'd like a pve skill. I don't like how my bosmer warden is being allowed less flexibility than every most?) other race/class.

If everyone had 1 pvp -only racial or everyone's class skills were pvp-mostly, I wouldn't mind, but this feels unbalanced since others can build for pvp and pve.

I'm sure we'll eventually get Skill Styles for Werewolf Transformation itself! Though, what new active abilities would you like to be able to use in Werewolf form via the Scribing system?

It could potentially be anything, like a biting attack, a channeled claw swipe attack, a ground effect that can heal allies or damage enemies, or some other kind of werewolf-themed ability. Maybe it could be based off of one of Werewolf Behemoth's abilities, or one of those abilities that we only see NPC werewolves using?

It would be pretty awesome to be able to summon a Flame Atronach, regardless of class. I suppose Mage's Guild would fit best. I'd love to see Fire Bolt and a channelled Ward ability.

Drain/Damage Stamina and Magicka could be cool.

I'd really love some low-key exploration-based skills: Invisibility/Chameleon, Night Eye/Light, an Open Lock alternative to lock picking, Pacify (probably only effective on stuff like inconsequential overland mobs), Slowfall, Detect Life. Just some things to make exploration more fun.

Do you mean brand new Skill Lines dedicated for Scribing skills? What passive abilities would those new skill lines have?

I remember hearing that the original Spellcrafting demonstration from 10 years ago had separate skill lines for each school of magic. Though, I don't recall hearing about any passive abilities tied to those skill lines. I'd rather have some additional benefit for slotting/using skills if they're going to take up space on my skill bar.
