Though I would put it much nicer, I agree that scribing is more of a bother than a useful feature right now.
ZOS should make script unlocks accountwide, and have us do all the luminaries's quests to unlock scribing for an alt. This way we do have a barrier of entry(scholarium quests), but can expand our scribing library accountwide and grant alts full access when they are done with that. While at the same time we do not have to collect every script for all characters over and over, but only once. Still keeping it a grind, but not an impossible twenty times of a grind.
The way scribing is now, I have it unlocked and won't touch it ever again.
PS: The scholarium quests are really fun to do!
At least getting the scripts is a gold sink
You do realize most players aren't rich.
question if anyone knows, if you get a focus/signature/affix script on your main character, from some kind of RNG drop like a daily or something. And then you learn it on your main character, can you then buy it on an alt? Maybe from the vendor in the scholarium? Or do you have to farm all these scripts that are RNG based on every single alt?

At least the Scribing story/quest line is one of the best in the game, but no way in heck would I do it again! Most players will take several days/~1 week to complete it.
3. After completion on first toon: both Scribing & Psijic should be a shortened version of the full quest line (25%-35% of their full storyline). NO ONE cares about doing the same content twice for the sake of using those skills. No one has ever considered the Psijic skill line a must have.
As a former BDO player, I am not afraid of grind. Indeed, I find whatever grind ESO has to offer rather like holidays.
I tested the skills ad nauseam on the PTS over the past few weeks, and what turns me off is their power (in terms of damage). Or the lack of it.
In terms of damage, they are too weak on a 1 to 1 basis. Wield Soul could have finally been a universal spammable skill untied from any weapon, but its comically low damage ensures it will never be that. Even with magic, shock etc. damage scripts applied. It could have helped several classes, but no utility it could possibly offer may offset its terrible damage.
I think many people feel the same way, that most of these scribing skills are too weak, or only useful in certain pvp situations.

Yes, you were. Tales of Tribute isn't boring at all!

One thing I tested at least is transferring earned scripts on other alts to the bank. SUCCESS! At least there's that for easier completion on the main scriber.
Otherwise completely agree with everyone's sentiment in this thread... Was excited but feels like false advertising. Even those who tested it on PTS never said anything about this limitation (I never read or heard it). Whether they knew or not, you knows?
1. Grimoires and Scripts: account wide (if this isn't rectified fast, similar situation to jewelry crafting, the player base with take a hit like never seen before).

@Bethesda/ZOS - I hope this gets patched ASAP. This is not a player based consideration. You should have learned a lesson with jewelry crafting. How quickly you forget! (Or is the $ really more important? Players make the game. I guess we'll see what kind of customer service you offer in response to this outcry.)
Edit/update: to players... check out the Alcast link for the best info I've seen regarding scribing details...
1. After completion on main scriber...Alts only have to do the scribing tutorial to unlock the scribing area/alter for use. (Will confirm soon)

Give it some time.

I suspect they intentionally made the skills a bit weak in order to avoid complaints about unfairly over-powered players and accusations of pay-to-win. Pretty much the same thing happened with Companions-- there were players who raised a stink about Companions being too powerful (on the PTS, I guess) and how it was going to kill the need for players to group for vet content, then when Companions went live everyone complained about how weak they were.
The Scribed skills will probably have their strength adjusted and readjusted in the weeks, months, and years ahead, just as is done with most other things in the game. Striking a good balance rarely happens perfectly on the first attempt.

Spent money on the new DLC. Re subbed. Scribing seemed amazing with all the videos on it and everything.
But once you get started and realize how bad getting Ink is. And how stuff doesn’t transfer to alts [snip]. I’m already done with this and there is NO WAY I’m going to grind for new scribes on every single alt.
This is ridiculous.

It's really that bad. That's why they're selling for 150k+ on PCNA and 100k+ on EU.OtarTheMad wrote: »How bad is the drop rate for ink? Are people just being overly negative or is it that bad?

the approximate drop rates from harvesting (non-survey) nodes is about 2-3x rarer than nirncrux
the drop rates from NPCs are about equally as bad, not aetheric cipher level but enough so ive never seen once since completing scribing system on monday

So the PCNA greedflation prices haven't kicked in yet.
the skills are all intentionally weak.
i don't know why that was the goal for ZoS, but it's the decision they made.
