ZOS, Massive Spike in Ping/LAG in Recent Days - What Gives?

There were a couple of spikes early this morning.

Didn't play enough to notice exactly how good or bad it was.

Was mostly solo play while unlocking scribing.

Noticed some lag spikes too while trying to work on the scribing quest line.

it's pretty bad at the moment, but especially bad in IA

Been laggy today, to the point of being jerked around (in Battlegrounds) while trying to move forward. And all that time ping was totally normal, and yet it was laggy as if it were red numbers. We were very confused.

Yeah there was a whole bunch of us standing around a wayshrine after finishing an incursion trying to click it, but it was out of range for everyone. So clearly it's a ZOS performance issue, not some ISP or user system issue.

Yesterday (June 4) I actually had... no lag.... in PC NA GrayHost... well into prime time, near hammer....not sure if anything changed on ZoS backend or if Im just winning the latency lottery at the moment. None of the like, 2-3 second 'catch ups' we have been seeing, no one teleporting around (well, a couple people were teleporting around, but compared to what its been, this was acceptable.)

I wont sing songs of praises that its fixed, as other comments suggest it is not fixed, just stating my experience change

Cyro was much less populated last night IMO - DC wasn't locked at all so I'm guessing that is part why.

It took me 20 minutes to log in today I had multiple errors including 103, 334 and 307. Ping is a minimum of 300 but mostly 999+, in Deshaan, Reapers March and Vvardenfell. I didn't try anywhere else, the game is not in a playable state for me.

    PCEU
    Totally normal.

While overland it seemed okay, once we went to Battlegrounds it became laggy while ping numbers showed no lag. Lag was evident in how we couldn't use our powers right, how we were jerked around at times etc. Funny thing, we seem to get to the same map (with lava rivers) that is laggy.

Infinite Archive - sudden lag got us killed on final boss of the arc and we just left because this is sad performance.

The easiest way to check, is to play.

    Alternately,

ZOS don't appear to have issued a statement saying that a fix has been engineered.

BGs have been really bad for me the last few days, mine showing some ping spikes but nothing so bad that matches how bad it feels to play in them. I used to never see audio lag in BGs, only Cyrodiil and maybe IC when it's busy during the Mayhem events.... but last night in BGs this happened a lot for me.

Yeah, we’re still working on this. Focus is on launch and immediate fixes today and over the next few days, but we have folks investigating this issue as well. We’ve been passing along tickets, theories and anecdotes to assist in this effort.

Maybe you read the most recent update, maybe you didn't.

My reading of ZOS responses so far is that it's an acknowledged problem and getting specific feedback from players via a support ticket will assist them to resolve it.

You can choose to play and lodge feedback on your own, personal experience; or sit inactive on the sidelines until the resolution process is complete.

Well, address your question to ZOS Kevin then. He's the ZOS employee tasked with communication between forum users and the rest of ZOS. He's the individual that has provided the updates so far.

I don't think asking me to go play the game is a very helpful response to it.

If it's the Trader's Luck wayshrine, it's already a known issue (mentioned in another thread) and not related to server lag, just an issue with that particular wayshrine.

I haven't been able to get through a battlegrounds match without being disconnected and getting leaver's penalty since the update. I did a fresh install after removing all addons. It keeps happening. I flushed my DNS. I've added/removed ports. I've tried using a VPN. I just paid way too much money for Gold Road not even to be able to play it. Some people say it's a CGNAT issue, and my ISP will not disable that feature. I want my money back.

Essentially the only option for getting answers on this forum is from other players. This is the only forum I've ever participated on where the mods don't provide any kind of technical assistance. Almost every answer found on this forum is provided by the players, with the exception of Kevin occasionally and Bill when it comes to account problems.

For a while i was hoping that some of the "players" here are undercover employees who feel guilty about the state of this game and maybe try to explain what's going wrong. But after seeing how little real info this forum provides, and how much gets deleted and silenced all the time, i guess this forum really was just made for players to blow off steam and get banned in the process...

Historically, things usually get better after a server reset, and deteriorate as the days go by until the next maintenance. This is often the sign of unresolved memory leaks, although it could be hardware related as well, such as the failing network port that had to be replaced.

Hey Lain. I have skimmed through the thread and if you have as well you would notice I have been participating on and off. It would make sense to assume I know what the discussion has been so far and it wouldn't be a stretch to assume that I am inviting further input from both other posters who have been playing and ZOS staff responsible for monitoring threads.

Re-iterating what has already been stated and asking me to go play the game to see if it happens again is not helpful. I would also add that the attitude and tone in your responses is pretty poor.

It's also kind of entitled to assume that I should be appreciative about being baited into an argument while all I am trying to do is get some information and help.

Either way, you should take into account how you're responding and what you're saying and how it would be helpful to the situation.

It would be helpful if you understand that people posting here are taking time out of their day to get help with the game or make suggestions that are heard. They are not here for you to argue with or get talked down to.

It probably might be time for you to start helping all the other people posting who might be much more appreciate of whatever it is you're offering.

I played last night. I play from the East Coast and am on EST and play on PC NA.

I logged on and completed the new trial. I then made some progress on my scribing quest and logged off.

I didn't get any lag spikes that as far as I am aware but I noticed one change since I last played. My latency which had been 80 before these issues began and 100-100 MS afterwards was now 120 and change.

That is a change from a steady 80-90 MS to 120+ MS which to me is pretty irregular. It hasn't happened on any of the other games I play and I haven't had any other issues with those games or with the computer or my connection.

I'm not sure if my issue is related, but I made a ticket and report it here just in case.

All started right after the latest U42. In short, the game in background freezes and gives me 303, sometimes before the eco-mode, with disabled eco-mode, with all addons disabled, with ReShade removed, while standing still near a wayshrine, I can't really catch the pattern exept the game is not in focus.

In addition, my ping is now +20 or +40, 85 >> 105-125, this looks like a new regular ping for me. PC EU, Steam.

Hey my experience has been pretty much the same as yours as far as latency is concerned at the moment. My latency went up 2 or so weeks before the recent patch was applied however and I have been seeing posts highlighting similar timelines from other people on the forums

As I mentioned earlier I play on PC NA. I am wondering why latency is up around an extra 20 and now 40.

There was a period of time where the higher average latency was combined with constant lag spikes. It seems the lag spikes are less prominent now for me but the increased latency is still a factor.

Hi all, wanted to follow up and get a check on how things are lag and latency wise. We see there are still updates from several noting that you are experiencing lag spikes and rubberbanding. Trying to get an update on if things have been improving, the same, or worse than previously reported. Providing an update to the team so any feedback would be great. Thanks all.

Most of the time ping is around 120+ nowadays while my norm has been 80-100, so that's a bit hightened. Plus lag still happens unexpectedly and randomly no matter what you do at the moment it happens. Could be a dungeon or it could be some trivial resource-gathering in a remote lonely area.
One of my friends experiences constant lag that expresses itself in a sort of delay between pressing buttons and when those actions fire in the game. It looks like the game does nothing and then quickly "catches up" by firing out her weapons etc within one second inside the game. Simply put, a delay as it is.

We haven't been doing Battlegrounds a couple of days now because there's been also a lot of lag lately, and it's no fun to run around sluggishly and being unable to fire weapons in time due to some lag that doesn't even show in ping numbers - aka they look normal and yet your experience says otherwise. It's strange.

It's also sad to see we get no maintenance yet again, given how many people still experience lag issues in their game, @ZOS_Kevin
We will appreciate any update, any information at all about how the issues are being addressed by the team and whether there are any solutions coming. It's been going on since the PTS issues, and for me personally lag issues became prominent after PC EU extended update.
Thank you for still monitoring this discussion. We appreciate it.
