... why complain at all about something that is truly free?
Why? Because it encourages gambling, that's why.

isn't grinding for all the sets and style pages also a form of gambling, of time? Better to remove them all

Grinding doesn't generally cause some people with addictive personalities to max out their credit cards.

I take it you haven't heard of Genshin Impact? Diablo Immortal?

You got me on that one, and you clearly raise a very good point, but thats a whole 'nother gaming lifestyle based on a predatory game mechanic that I don't want to see ESO moving even closer to.

My personal opinion is that the daily reward version of the crown crates wouldn't be the kind of problem some of us are discussing if they were a separate 'daily reward mystery box' that wasn't tied so closely to a promotion of actual crown crates you could buy in the crown store.
Crown crates are transactions and players are actually paying money for a gamble, while a mystery box would just be a collection of random in game rewards.
There are probably other aspects I'm not addressing, but this is one of the more important ones many people have.

This is such a first world problem. Asking a company to NOT give you free stuff. To top it off- this is a video game. Out of all the crazy things happening in the world- this is OP's concern. Getting free stuff makes them want to gamble.

There hasn't been a first world since 1989. Referring to this does not provide any credibility to your comments.

We were already getting FREE STUFF; they changed the FREE STUFF to: CHANCES AT FREE STUFF

I opened my three free crates.
I got a couple of minor ornament things that I would never have chosen myself.
I ended up with an additional 14 gems, which are useless to me. Unless I get more somehow....

I would have preferred to be given some XP scrolls; or research scrolls, instead of just a chance at those items.

As a suggestion for a workaround:
I think crown crates never go to the inventory. So if you accept the daily reward and just never click on the crown crate symbol to summon Pacrooti (or never open them there), you can ignore them for all times, , you can ignore them for all times, effectively rejecting them.
thanks for the hint, but the workaround is not an option for me

You have more than 500 unopened crown crates? Phew!

... I do agree for the ability to "Skip Daily Log in" button towards the bottom of the calendar ...
    a good idea

    Hello everyone,

thank you for your feedback. I think the following suggestions are good: offer a button "decline reward" or "skip daily reward". I would like to have a free choice.

I have noticed that we have gone off topic a little bit. Therefore, I would like to clarify something: I didn't want to take the crown boxes away from anyone or have them removed from the game. The reason for my post is that they've become a problem for me now, because they've been forced on me too often when logging in daily. I'm worried about the current course of Elder Scrolls Online. Even more crown crates? I'm losing faith in the game and can no longer relax and simply enjoy the game.

It's like a lottery: When opening the crown crates, an ingame character tells me that "you can always buy new crates" (this happens before I can recycle the stuff into gems). A buy-button is displayed too. I've seen a thread in this forum where other players post their "wins" and congratulate each other when they hit a grand prize (like a lottery). But I myself prefer to buy DLC's instead of crown crates or loot boxes. So the fact that I don't like them has nothing to do with a lack of self-discipline, seduction or addiction (three terms in some posts).

Did I understand it right that a few years ago many players wanted these crown crates as a daily login reward? Last but not least, I'm very surprised that so many of you want these crown crates! That really surprises me. I need to think about that.

    Best regards,
    Spin

Why can't you just take off your headphones, open them, and convert everything to gems? Why is it even stressful for you? Help me to understand, because I seriously do not. Apparently, other daily rewards are acceptable, because you collect them. If you don't collect any daily rewards, then just don't even look at the calendar?

The crates have rewards comparable to daily login rewards that can be purchased with gems, so I guess don't understand the issue.

I respect your preferences and opinions, but I do not understand why the offered workaround is not an option if this is not about lack of self-discipline.

What do you mean by “even more crown crates” or what is your concern? I think the same amount are being released as have been since they were introduced, or at the least I can say that it is the same since I started playing in 2019. Those who have been playing longer than I have said there used to be free crown crates more often, including during free ESO+ trials. When I started, there were a few free preview crates as log-in rewards, but then not even those for a while that I recall. I believe that we have been getting more as log in rewards since December as part of the anniversary celebration. Whether Crown crates continue to be log in rewards at least occasionally beyond that will probably depend on their effect on account activity and purchases.

In any case, it does not seem to me that ESO is going further in that direction but continues to release a mix of items available from crates (or for gems or seals), direct purchase, and in-game.
Did I understand it right that a few years ago many players wanted these crown crates as a daily login reward? Last but not least, I'm very surprised that so many of you want these crown crates! That really surprises me. I need to think about that.

If you want anything that is only available from crates, then free crates are a good thing as you get gems to collect toward the item you want. That is how I view them; if I get something more than that, it’s an unexpected bonus.

If you want nothing from the crates, then I suppose you wouldn’t care either way or even prefer a different reward, but it seems to me that many people find at least a few things that they want from over the seasons. Thus, for many of us, free crates are a good thing.

From the number of flashy mounts, recalls, and other things I see about, it seems to me that crown crates are quite popular — so I am surprised that you are surprised! Do you not see similar when and where you play?

But I myself prefer to buy DLC's instead of crown crates or loot boxes.

I also prefer to spend my crowns on DLCs - and buy mounts, pets, outfits, etc. with seals or gems. From the five free crates I got enough gems to buy three (and a half!) items that I was already planning to buy from the Endeavors Store.

I like having this "forced on me", just as I like it when I go to the grocery store and three of the items on my shopping list are on special (or - more in line with this analogy - 'buy one get one free').
It's a tradition, or an old charter, or something...

There was someone on the forum a few years ago who refused to open any of the free crown crates, they had over 100 at one point. I'm not sure if they're still around or if they ever opened them, but it seems like there's no limit for how many you can keep unopened and since they're not inventory items there's no problem with storing them.

Around 600 unopened crates here. I'll get around to streaming a crate opening session, until then they're accumulating

Regarding the OP's point, I've no objection to free crates. As others have said, the unwanted rewards can be cashed in for gems, and desirable items purchased instead. They might as well put the gems icon on the daily reward tile with a ? next to it. It's pretty much the same thing.

Seriously? Why are there people out there that don't like something, so they try to get rid of it for everyone? If you don't like the crates... fine... do whatever you want with them. How about the people who do like the crates? Why ruin it for them? Let each person make the decision on what they spend (or not to spend) their money on. Let's be adults.

To me it's no worse than the standard RNG that you have for the whole of the game.

    Gear drops = rng
    Style pages = rng
    Rare items = rng

You can argue that playing ESO is a series of loot boxes. I understand the logic behind the paid aspect and addictive nature of loot boxes in general but when you consider it all MMOs have that logic built in only worse, because you can always get more money, time is finite.

Hope they don't listen to OP, I love them! No, I don't buy them, but I do occasionally get really great stuff from them. People who have issues with them should just never take the daily rewards if that's how they feel about them; of course the devs are going to do their best to get people to log in every day, every GALS does this.

I log in for hours every day anyway, have done for 7 years; it's really nice to get occasional fun stuff.

same, i dont mind if the reward is bad or not, the gems are so usefull... i felt a bit sad when i saw this post T_T

I think OP and I are in agreement that these shouldn't exist at all.

But since they do, it's essential that there be in-game ways to earn them, so I'm in full disagreement with the conclusion.
