Templar is Depressingly Bad

I'm sorry to add to the chorus of (ignored) moaning about the Templars at the moment but it is really making me want to uninstall the game. I love the competitive element of the game, loathe the toxicity, lament team green camping Arri lumber, but worst of all I just can't get the motivation to play this anymore with my only class being so thoroughly uncompetitive.

I have tried all damage sets, crit builds, a mixture, cheese builds etc and just have no way near the amount of burst to kill players. I can run Order's Wrath, Clever Alc, Markyn, Balorgh's and still hit like a wet noodle.

The spammable is so bad right now, it's nearly impossible to actually hit half of the jabs, and when you do connect it does barely any damage. Not to mention the lag amplifies this even more. The burst skill has either been nerfed into oblivion or is just bugged, and I'm left wondering what can I do. There is no offensive output on this class and it seems every class has better burst, sustained damage output, in addition to better burst heals. So even if you're fortunate enough to find a squishy a lot of them can just heal through what you have. On top of all of that, it's a class with very, very poor mobility. So we're expected to stay in our runes with zero damage and do what exactly?

I don't want to level up a new class and join the sweatlords on DKs and Wardens, but I'm at a loss to know what to do right now.

I know this will be ignored by the devs and I know they're not interested in helping the class, but it's just a terribly frustrating experience at the moment and has pushed me to the point where I think the end of the road has come.

I've noticed that most people that say they're thinking of quitting the game, are people with only 1 character.

I have 9 characters. If the Devs nerf one for awhile I just use my other characters.

Templar might be a bit aesthetically boring, but all in all, it's a well-rounded class that I really enjoy playing.

Andeh who I play with hits 2k critical on his jabs. He has 125% crit increase. Its wet. Necro, sorcerer and temp next patch are in the bin

Just makes it more of a challenge lolz...dk is a carry right now, I only play it for tier 1 transmutes...temp is my main for better or worse

I can't take nightblade, Dk and certain warden set ups seriously. Any clips with them aren't impressive, unless it's a phenomenal clip. People are quick to forget what gap is between classes. I'd rather watch a 1v5 on a magsorc over a 1v10 on a Dk. Because Dk is, in every single department far superior. There's not one aspect where is not stronger. Even where sorcerer shines in mobility and range Dk is better. Race against time has way better overall consistency with movement over streak and DK take flight does more consistent and reliable damage than an a sorcerer combination. Its truly broken.

Quick cloak is great on sorc.

I don’t main a templar, but Ive got a lot of sympathy for the horrible changes that reduced the class to a decent defense + jbeam spammer. Theres no dynamism left.

Compare all of the new & highly effective buffs NB received the last few patches while at the same time Tplar got POTL & jabs nerfed into ground, and it’s a real head scratcher. I really don’t understand the vision guiding this.

When you look up the imagine of Templar on google you find a person in armor with a sword, meaning melee. When I look up ESO templar I find trash cans and light flashing from hands. Nothing melee.

Templars are simply fodders in the current ESO. You are there so the rest of your alliance can get the kills. You are now the pawns in the great game of DragonKnight Online.

When I see sorcerers, I see a man in a robe and with a staff. Why is a dude with maces attacking me and all sparkling with lightning?? The Templars are pretty strong but their meta has changed. One door closed but another opened. I can understand you, but you don't have to speak for all the Templar players. I too often see immortal templars killing even 1 against one on bg. And when a beam is directed from three Templars, even if you tear your ass, you won’t survive. The templar has both very weak skills and too strong ones. Beam is the most finishing skill. The skill that knocks down the enemy is stronger than the common staff and bow skills. Templar Purge is the strongest purge skill that heals over a huge area, inflicting allied synergy with full purge.

We can say that this class is weak, but this only applies to a couple of skills. Some skills, on the contrary, are too strong in relation to similar skills of other classes or general skills. I agree that the meta has changed and it is difficult to play the old way, but the templar is not lost yet.

Have magplar and magnecro and in my opinion magplar MUCH better in pvp than magnecro. But both of them at the bottom of the pvp food chain...

Necromancer is only played if it's their main class. And for magnecro only connoisseurs)) No matter how good the class looks, it will suck if the mechanics of their gameplay is not working.

Il always main a plar for better or worse, it might not be as easy to play as dk but I definitely feel like I make it work..but that's what a long time main should be able to do. It's the meta chasers that struggle when the fotm class they play gets nerfed..they don't know how to adapt

I would be on board with three changes to make plar slightly better, add a mag return mechanic passive to heavies on melee weapons, and a nerf to the vampire cost for skills. It's too much, the fire damage is enough. And I wouldn't need to be a vampire if they gave other classes a stealth mechanic

Lastly a change to ultimate, causing damage to an enemy grass ultimate regen...

*edit! I meant make MY plan better. I play a sunmage with max damage and the only non damage thing I use is orzagas for regen. Everything else dedicated to damage. I'd love to run DW but not getting ultimate because of range and mag return hurts. So I use a firestaff...which I hate...

I run deadly, warmaiden and oakensoul. Primary damage is from dark flare to soften my target, javelin for big damage and further soften, radiant for BIG damage. It deals the same damage as one dark flare in just two tics of damage. Hit em with a flare, LA, flare, LA, soul assault...hard to come back from 135k soul assault.

Templar is a dead class until they fix that awful new jab animation and ditch the vampire staff lol. File it next to no-pet sorc and necromancer.
Struggling to find a new class to call home. Please send help.

“ After the adjustments to Templar’s damage to make sure they’re more in line with other classes, we’ve seen them drop down in effectiveness in PvP situations in some areas. Rather than bloating out their damage again, we’re trying to help enable them to stay in the fray longer and keep up the pressure by adding some defensive bonuses when they dive into foes, helping them go all in before needing to peel back and turtle up.”

Bahahahahahahaha!!!!!!! My rally/Mara’s Templar can survive just fine. Making a mosquito harder to kill doesn’t add pressure, it’s just more annoying lol

How they landed on this is beyond me. I guess I certainly can retire my PvP Templar. As if Templar tanks and healers are even wanted in endgame PvE either. Can’t remember the last time I saw a Templar in an organized vet trial, regardless of role.

How they can’t see their vision just continues to destroy the class is beyond me. Unbelievable. I must be missing something, honestly. Who are these armies of people crying out for these changes?

It's nice that they're giving templars a buff to defense, I guess .. at least they're taking a look at templars, but I'd much much rather get the old jabs back. I've had to resort to a heavy attack build in PVP (which isn't that bad, but doesn't feel like a templar) as well as using a non-class spammable in PVE to be even remotely effective.

I'm new player spent the last 3 weeks leveling a Templar because I love paladin style classes and it is so sad to hear and read from everywhere how it sucks. I guess it is time to try DK as it seems to excell in pve and pvp too.

Things tend to swingon pendulums here so you never know how things will be down the road. But right now, parts seem to be stuck

Better try nightblade. This class always king.
The only issue it’s hard to start and hard to master, when dk is easy to start and easy to master.

It's a total bummer. I can only speak for pve, but I shelved my templar after u35 and haven't touched him since. Before that, he was the main character I had used for higher end content - completed my first arenas and first vet DLC dungeons with him.

These days he's great for storing all my motifs from the anniversary event, but not much else. (I realize this is the pvp section of the forum, but I wanted you to know that we share your pain :P )

I can haf make my templar work in PvP but it's not fun. Solar Barrage wont help. Major protection on toppling could, but I really see a lot of issues when using gap closers prime time PCNA as performance has gone downhill. Time on it should last 6 seconds to match CC immunity and our burst window if Backlash ever works again

I've found that my templar is OK in pve still, but gets whooped on in PVE

Maybe the difference being that I don't use jabs anymore, swapped to flurry (or whatever that morph is of the DW skill) and use jesus beam at exe for like 75% of my overall damage
