As the article states in the hotfix example: "with minimal disruption". For some live software versions, that means the fix can be applied while the servers are online. But generally with games, the servers are taken offline.Actually, hotfix is a fix for a major issue that already went to the "live" environment, in this case the ESO live servers. It does not matter if the server is offline or online, but that it is applied to the live-version of the server. "Live" means something different than offline/online, "live" stands for the current in use user-version.Red_Feather wrote: »purple-magicb16_ESO wrote: »honglatongla wrote: »Guess hotfix means something else nowadays.
Agree. I always understood "hotfix" to be an update while the server was still live.
It totally does mean that!

Boggles our minds!
So "hotfix" is a term which means an immediate fix needs to be applied to the live server. The linked article even states that same thing.
Isn't that a coldfix? A hotfix doesn't require restarting the environment, whereas a coldfix does. Very common in MMOs

Another way to show what "live" means: Games, like ESO are already working on new patches and expansions which might come out at later dates. So "live" allows coders to easily refer to the current active user-version.
As an IT person, "coldfix" isn't a term I have ever used before, to be honest. But reading the article that seems more like a future patch to me, in the way it is described. And "hotfix" has always been the term used in any game I used to play, when something major needed to be fixed instantly. While "patch" is used for any future patches applied in scheduled downtime(patch maintenance).
Hotfix/Coldfix didn't really work.
After completing my writs on 9 characters on PC-EU I switched to my new single character on PC-NA and got three crashes to desktop in the space of a few minutes. I'll take a few hours break and restart the computer and hope for the best.

There was no fix applied. Who knows why the servers went down for so long.

We as a gaming community are often very quick to pour out our grievances and resentments, to complain to ZOS for their failures.
This time however I wanted to say thank you very much and I think on behalf of most of us that we really appreciate today's hotfix regarding magick and life steal. This is how the pace of the most important fixes should be. Great job ZOS team, keep it up!

So much text and its all wrong, hotfix is applied to a running/online server that doesnt need any rebooting.
Yup, I agree it was a bit early to say thanks but the speed of fixing this bug for ZOS is great anyway. Despite the minor stumbles this time ZOS deserves praise.
7 hours to fix one bug that they didn't even fix ....
We've set the bar far too low for this company that milks us for all this money 🙄
