There are a few VPNs that are good for gaming. Mudfish, Battleping and WTFast are all popular and certainly do help me.

To be honest, I would not be able to play the game at all without a VPN.

Currently, the routing is so inefficient that my pings to ESO are wildly variable, from a minimum of 350 up to well beyond +999.

With Battleping, my ping stays mostly around 250-280, which is where it was before this issue started two weeks ago.

I am annoyed that two weeks ago all was fine but now It looks like I am going to have to fork out extra money each month just to play the game.

    Frustrated would be an understatement

Can we get an answer or acknowledgement on what is going on with the connections for the NZ players? I'm not one but I have several friends who play from NZ and haven't been able to PvP and can barely do anything else for weeks now because their ping is insane. Pretty unprofessional that ZoS hasn't bothered to update their playerbase on this issue.

Up until 2 weeks ago, I had remarkably low ping for a NZ player - 220-230. Thanks to fibre. However now it is NEVER below 300 and usually 350. Spikes to unplayable levels. I'm not quite ready to give up my esoplus just yet, but definitely playing less and less. Eventually I won't be able to justify the cost though.

If your ping went up by yet again on Friday, I read that apparently there's issues with the SMW3 cable. Again. This means traffic to Asia just took a nose-dive while it's rerouted elsewhere. Unfortunately this causes even more issues for us in Aus due to the use of the Akamai node up there for ESO.

Or here's a novel idea - only turn on the Akamai DDOS scrubbing when you're actually under DDOS attack.

The game was FINE before Akamai got involved, and what for me was once a reliable 200ms latency from here in Melbourne first went up to 260-280ms once Akamai got involved, and is now 380-400ms and climbing.

I'm sure the Akamai service provides a valuable "hail mary" save when a DDOS attack happens, but the rest of the time it should not be being used at all. The game was fine for YEARS without it, after all. It's adding 50-100ms latency just from being in the chain at all (it's clearly not designed to handle real-time game server traffic) and with the extra routing Australia and NZ players have to deal with now, it's a joke.

I mean, I literally just DIE my way through delves world bosses and quests now. There's literally no point in following mechanics because the mechanic is already over by the time the server hears from you, so you cop the full force of it anyway. SO I die and die and die and die and am very thankful for all those Crown repair kits so I don't have to lose gold on it (I just wait till my gear's broken, patch up and go back to the dying ;)

Come on, ZOS. You're better than this. Your game's amazing, you're a massive company, and Australia and New Zealand are not *** backwaters - after, all, your game director's here right now!

Fix this problem the ONLY way it can be fixed - turn Akamai OFF.

It'll make the game playable again for Australia and NZ and noticeably improve it for everyone else.

We can play fine under 300 (for me best i get is about 270-280 sometimes), its not easy and in pvp almost impossible to compete against players on <100 ping but we can be competitive and enjoy the game. I know players who have done almost everything in the game, so it can be done.

I know from my perspective once ping goes above about 330 it really does become difficult but I have managed a few flawless on stam toons at that ping but generally tanking is all I can reliably do at pings over 300 and the game can still be ok to play.

The main problem is spikes and of late even with a vpn ping of high 300-420. The game really is unpleasant then for me.

You are correct though, I do need another game as the consistent dev 'balancing' really is just as much of a problem as latency.

Thank you again for the follow up reply. Unfortunately we here in Customer Support do not have any additional information that can be provided as to what you are seeing beyond it being an issue within your ISPs network. This in mind, I would recommend reaching out to your ISP for any additional assistance they could provide as we have exhausted all known troubleshooting at this time.

That is where it ends with customer support and my attempts to solve this issue.

    - I have contacted Akamai but they replied that they only discuss routing with their clients, not affected users.
    - I have contacted my ISP and there is nothing they can do when data goes beyond the Border Gateway.
    - ZOS customer support will no nothing further.
    - My VPN is hit and miss as to whether it gives me a usable connection.

    I'm not happy with my data, even just gaming data, passing through Hong Kong, China. Here's why;

Just wanted to add my voice here, I recently subbed after a long break and the lag is awful. I'm in NZ and the ping is over 300 and spikes into the thousands when doing anything, especially combat. Even doing writs causes huge lag spikes.

There are moments where the game is barely playable but for the most part it is a horrible experience. It certainly never used to be this bad. Something needs to be done.

I'm playing in Finland and my ping went from pretty standard 40-90 to pretty annoying 350+ (usually on red all the time 500+) and hitting 999+ way too often. Everything I do I have 1-3 sec delay depending on activity. Its really annoying since I'm used to super fast response. It is truly unplayable at times and server even kicks me out quite often, so it does make playing rather annoying.

That being said... I do have a fanboy faith in ZOS, because ever since the launch updates have made a negative peak in performance and it has always smoothed in within few weeks after hotfixes. So I decided to wait and reason rather than rage, for now =)

At daytime the ingame ping always stays below 120ms.
Directly after a patch it seems to be better and bouncing between 60 and 80ms.

First post in the forums to try and have my voice heard too.
I'm in Australia and have been playing ESO on and off since Beta. ESO + for the last 6 months and pings were always high but on the "manageable" side (under 300 ms).
For the last 2-3 weeks it's constantly on the red, high 300s or even 400s. Nothing changed on my end, I'm on a HFC 100mbps connection and this is the only game that I'm having a issue with.
My traces indicate a problem on the Akamai hop as many have already reported and I'm a Systems Engineer by trade wiht over 20 years experience so I know what I'm talking about.
ZOS, you NEED to deal with this, talk to Akamai and have this issue escalated properly as this is game-breking. PVP is out of the question and even thing like Veteran Trials get pretty difficult to play with this latency.
I can't believe all we have had from ZOS support here has been a generic "raise a ticket" which gets us nowhere.
Pete Hines (@DCDeacon), Tim Willits and Matt Firor were here last weekend (PAX Melbourne) so I'd like to think ZOS/Bethesda care about Australia and New Zelanad so why not fix this which is a widespread issue, for all of us in this side of the world?
Calling @ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_JessicaFolsom or anyone that will listen.

I couldn't tell you my ping in Cyrodiil as I don't even dare to go there anymore, but in normal PvE world used to be around 290 constant, which was good enough, no it's 360-390 with a rare drop to 300.

But going by what you say, looks like the problem may be with ZOS and the last Murkmire patch?
Either way, we need ti fixed!

Well at least the game itself and connection issues are making it easier to simply not even bother. I'm almost grateful.
Constantly in combat, can't transit to anywhere that has enemies, skills not working, aoe not even rendering, rubber banding enemies and plainly combat leads that have screws loose.
