I get loot about 90% of the time on every world boss in Wrothgar, regardless of the size of the group - with my tank that does about 3k DPS.

Molag Bal is designed for a 4-person group.
The World Bosses in DLC zones are also designed for 4-person groups. (Though they are all soloable--I've soloed every single World Boss in Wrothgar, Hew's Bane, and The Gold Coast, and I usually solo them when doing the dailies.)
I've joined World Boss groups where, after getting half a dozen people, the crown still won't start because "we don't have enough". People spend more time forming up the zerg than killing the boss. And then when the group gets too big, there will be people who won't get loot.
Frankly, the system is perfectly fine as it is. There needs to be some sort of penalty to discourage this sort of thing. One could even argue that the penalty isn't strong enough.
That's all well and good, but some world bosses get crowded anyway, especially Gold Coast or anything with new Motifs to farm.
Then increase the respawn rate and add a substantial loot cooldown. This way the boss is up more, but it won't be the same people killing the boss over and over again.
But, yes, that's the annoying thing about non-instanced content. And why I typically avoid overworld crap.

only max 12 people get loot from a mob, so u have to do enough damage to get into the top 12, get guud

this! I have been AFK or dead for boss fights and still got loot. I have been dealing damage the entire time and NOT gotten loot in a group of 8. I don't think it matters how much damage you do, it seems random. But since ZOS is ever silent about game mechanics no one knows for sure, and we get threads like this asking for a rework of mechanics that no one understands in the first place.
If ZOS would only make a statement the debates would end.

There's a difference between "can't solo" and a group of more than 12 people, though.
There are not many occasions where people will form groups larger than 12 outside of PvP, so it's not that much of an issue really.
I'm pretty sure it's random and not damage related. Could be wrong though!

They already did a year ago when I released. It was designed that way to encourage competition. They did not count on there CP system being so damn exploitable to alow people to get massive amounts of CP and become unkillable gods. Was in a group two days ago with some one who had over 1500 CP in IC. He wiped the floor killing 9 DC while we continued killing bal when they cane through the DC entrance. They could not even damage him. As far as the loot goes. It's based of the best groups dps. If your the only 12 man there it's all good. If your in a large 16 man group the top 12 get loot, if there is multiple large groups the top 12 of the top group get the loot.

I completely disagree that the debates would END, but they sure would be based on better information.
ZoS does like to keep many things a mystery - even if it makes more sense to come out with the information. Perhaps they are concerned that if we knew the mechanics, we would exploit the mechanics - a very valid concern in my opinion.

How many times in a row did you fight him? I usually stop getting drops after the 3rd or 4th time and it has nothing to do with my DPS. My guy shoots 40k lasers in PVE no problem.
