Calling players no lifers is ridiculous. You are clearly playing aganst pvp players and not pve players. Thats like calling someone a no lifer if they only play pve and role play.

Agree completely. Besides, nobody playing an MMO should be calling anybody a "no lifer", LOL.

The first time getting to assualt 7 can be rough, especially if you aren't "taught" how to play in PvP, or good ways to get AP.

But once you know how it's not terrible.

So much over-reaction to the no-life thing oy vey.

I was demonstrating that the stress from being in a non-competitive campaign added to the stress of the 1.6M AP barrier to get mag det, compelled me to ocassionally leech some free AP off the group-sharing/d-tick system. Mag det would be fair at rank 6. The extra 800k ap is too much.

I'm trapped in a 30 day campaign that was won on the first day by no-life blues. Its impossible to find good 1v1 battles in there, even the NB and sorcs are rolling 2-3 deep at all times.

So I just crouch in the corner of a keep, watch television, and keep flicking my joystick every ten minutes. I let my guild, or even just random people, fight off a zerg and earn me d-ticks.

ZoS wants us to grind 200 hours for a single skill (magicka det). This is almost four times longer than my Skyrim play through. In the time it takes to unlock magicka det, you could play Oblivion, Skyrim, and the entire Mass Effect trilogy from start to finish.

    I ain't about dat life.

You act like you are looking for small scale pvp and in another thread you said you joined a huge 60 man zerg guild. Ive ran across you a few times and you just get melted especially by me. If you are a pve player running a pve build or something and you are just here to get magicka det for pve then I would expect it must be hard for you lol.

btw the thread is in the campaign sections titled [PS4] NA Azuras where you talk about glorious zerging with 60 people and wiping blues, even talking bad about your own faction and previous guild.

Yeah sometimes I run with a big zerg, sometimes I leech free ap from randoms. Either way the ps4 azuras campaign this month is not balanced, and a mag dk like me can not get much out of ganking. The mag dk melts when outnumbered, especially one without mag det. Not sure why you were presenting that as some kind of revelation.

When ZoS sees players not appreciative of the alliance rank skills system, they are more likely to rectify the problem. Although, I'm only about a week away from mag det, and I wont have to worry about offending your fragile sensibilities.

Zos doesn't want you to grind for anything, you get the skills when you get them.

If your not enjoying pvp then getting magicka det isn't going to suddenly make it better.

Also... 200 hours for 1.6m ap... is 8k ap an hour? Pretty sure i get defence/offence ticks near that range.

Also go into a quest campaign or find a dueling guild or such if you want to 1v1.

The biggest defense tick i've seen is 4k. 8k defense tick must have been a massive zerg on zerg.

I'm grinding for det myself. Is healing zergs with mutagen while dpsing the best way to get ap?

I have to admit, reading the forums and seeing all the things people struggle with really makes me feel better sometimes.

    1.6 million AP = a grind?
    8K ap an hour?

If this is really the case, I don't think you deserve the skill. Just because you want it, doesn't mean you deserve it. People put in time and effort to achieve things in this game all the time.

    Why cant you?

In all fairness, its pretty unintuitive how mass amounts of AP are earned, unless you have someone to break it down for you. Especially when you don't have addons showing what got earned when.

Guess that's where the time and effort come into play :)

Couldn't agree more and you clearly get my point, but just to emphasize I am PS4, so no add-on support. However, I can read and write (somewhat) which allows me to search the forums. A lot of information is already available for how to farm ap, posts like this are unacceptable. Just because something takes a long time does not mean it is unfair. It takes a long time for everyone and people have managed to do it more painlessly than others. Listen to what they have to say and try to incorporate their lessons into your play. Really not that difficult.....

I got around 50k-100k a few times (back in the days when you could use oil on the ground), very rare, but possible if you successfully defend against a large group with only 1 or 2 other people.

The defense tick is roughly total AP from enemy deaths added together and then divided by the number of allies defending. Zerg defending against zerg is small AP because there are too many allies.

The AP you need to get Magicka Detonation / Vigor now is very low compared to what it used to be (AR 24 IIRC). That took several months. Now it is very fast in comparison, faster than caltrops.

For whatever reason, some skills and gear sets require primarily PVE players to spend a long time in PVP while others require PVP players to spend a long time in PVE.

I can sympathize with your situation, as I have a very limited amount of time to play and I'd prefer to spend it only in Cyrodiil. Zero interest in repetitive grinding PVE dungeons to get the undaunted passives and armor sets which are very useful in PVP.

I suppose if you're doing some activity you personally enjoy, it doesn't feel like a grind so much as a kind of reward for longer term progress.

So basically you don't like to PvP. You rather sit AFK in a keep leeching points just to get the skill. Which you probably won't use in PvP because reading the OP you don't enjoy PvP.

If I play "normally" for 2-3 hours a day I get more AP (which is not important, because you play for the fun which is PvP itself) by actively contributing attacking and defending keeps/resources. Not to mention the kill quests.

This "grinding" to get skills/achievements is what burns people out. Instead of having fun the want to have everything as fast as possible. And once they have it.. well they finished the game and move on.

And 1.6 million AP is nothing. Takes me a month maybe two to get casual play. But sitting AFK in a keep aint the way, and will only take longer.

Blending the disciplines of the stealthy agent and subtle wizard, I move unseen and undetected, foil locks and traps, and teleport to safety when threatened, or strike like a viper from ambush. The College of Illusion hides me and fuddles or pacifies my opponents. The College of Mysticism detects my object, reflects and dispels enemy spells, and makes good my escape. The key to a nightblade's success is avoidance, by spell or by stealth; with these skills, all things are possible."

The PvE players grinding in PvP just like they are used to grind in PvE is what makes up 90%* of the megazergs that ruin Cyrodiil.

I took some time off at the beginning of the campaign to measure its balance. So far its fairly even and balanced so I've been working hard in battle, but I will take a smoke break while waiting on a D-tick. Im about 185k ap from det, so I hope to unlock it this weekend. I never repair though so that hurts.

Oh and apparently the real secret of the emperors is to have a guild willing to abandon the keep letting you soak up the entire tick. I can't be so lucky.

Organised guild groups farming non organised players, basically. If you're playing solo or in pickup groups about 20k AP/hour is a decent and realistic aim.

At the moment, I have no life, whatever. I'm actually in PvP to play PvP, not for ap. That's just an added bonus, just like skill points when I level my PvP skills up. I love to PvP, getting magic det will only make it better. But I truly don't know how people get that much Ap. I played 26 straight hours trying to get empress, got 345,00+ ap in 7 days. That's playing my tail end off, someone please tell me how to get more

Grinding AP =/= "grinding" undaunted points. The pledge is daily and you can't really grind it per se. You only have to do it ONCE PER DAY. You'll eventually get it as Its only 1 to 1.5 hours out of your day mingling with the pve plebs. After which you can happily go back to cyro and feel superior again.

    I don't understand either unfortunately.

I played PvP (mainly 1v1) for a few months, that earned me approx 100k AP

December I tried to rank alright in Azura's (I placed 230ish) and in that month of 1-3 hours a day of big PvP earned approx 250k AP

The time of when you play is the MOST important factor.

By 1 A.M East Coast time (11 for me the earnest I log in at) Azura's was almost always all Yellow. This meant no defensive ticks for me, no offensive ticks, very few players to kill etc...

So there is no "special""secret"way to AP, it's about the competitive times... which just happens to be when most other people are out eating, at a date, a party, etc... which leads to "no life" comments.
