Why is it that nobody cares that the PC players that want controller support will have to buy a $50 controller to use the feature.
But, everybody is up in arms that consoles users may have to buy a $15 keyboard to use a text chat feature?
Why are there so many double-standards when it comes to consoles vs PC?
What? Why the hell would you even care for PC controller support unless you already owned a PC controller?
Why should anyone care if you don't own one but want to buy one?
Why can't you use a cheaper 15 dollar controller? I Just bought a logitech gamepad for 20 bucks to play rocket league on PC and it works great.

One of the arguments to not have text chat is the fact that everybody will have to buy a keyboard for text chat when most people don't have any.

From what I'm aware of, I don't think there are any $15 controllers...I mean I never bought one or really looked into it...and I guess you can find one really xheap, but working in retail, we sell some and we don't have any $15 ones.
I think I'm going to drop my monthly sub until we hear either way about text chat. Really don't see why I should support a company that can't even be bothered to acknowledge a 70+ page thread.

The cost itself is irrelevant since there are controllers and keyboards that cost over $100 and others that cost less than $15. Additionally, both of these require a UI update.

I agree the cost is irrelevant to some extent overall but on a per customer basis it could or could not be a concern.
UI updates for both...well the UI that is being used for consoles / PC technically is done so the only extra work for PC is to enable additional drivers for multiple PC controller types. Not sure of the level of work there but its not a massive undertaking and per ZOS done but not in a state where they feel its ready to put out...maybe bugs or ideas around plug n play vs keep and swapping UI's during game play with plug n play.
Really the only issue for consoles getting this feature is specific to what ZOS wants to do with those platforms.
They never went into any challenge or concerns on the end user for a peripheral standpoint...that's more of our conversations.
The challenge here is taking time to understand what ZOS wants to do and what they are willing to entertain and discuss. We have some info but I do believe it makes sense for someone like yourself and others who are just as passionate to point blank ask ZOS what they would entertain around "other communication methods/features on console"
Get it from them....then everyone can later discuss opportunities and preferences without any frustration of feeling the company isn't listening to you. Many have asked for the feature to be added but I'm not aware of anyone asking ZOS what they are willing to consider.
Just offering help/ideas as this topic is moving in a good direction now.

I completely understand where you are coming from. If I where in your shoes I wouldn't stress myself out trying to get a refund. You bought the game and played the game, your not going to get a penny back. Kinda like buying a movie, watching it, it sux, then wanting to return it. Lol. Lesson learned, for many of us.
Text chat in some form really has to be implemented. They got to realize by now this was a mistake other console mmo's have it. ZOS will probably make an effort later to try after more and more ppl get fustrated and just quit playing. I find myself turning off voice area chat alot so i dont have to listen to ppl messed up mics.

Yeah, there was a guy purposely playing loud music in Daggerfall yesterday so that pretty much locked down voice chat for the area. Worse yet others were trying to talk over the music so trying to figure out who to mute was almost impossible. I just left area chat and never even thought about rejoining later.

Similar thing happened to me this weekend playing PVP. My friends were yelling about some guy blasting music, keep in mind this went on for about an hour since no one knows how to block people apparently. I couldn't hear anything though. Turns out I already had him blocked for blasting music another time like 6 weeks ago! Lol. I prolly have less than 5 people blocked so it takes a real special individual to get on my list.
I usually switch all voice chat off immediately because of stuff like this.Hiero_Glyph wrote: »Text chat in some form really has to be implemented. The Consoles Aren't designed for Typing. You'd Spend More Time Finding The Letter To Type Than You Would Actually Messaging.

You do know that you can connect a regular keyboard to your console?

A surprising amount of people don't seem to realize that. My PS2 could have a keyboard plugged into it, hell my Dreamcast too, this isn't some wild unheard of tech or anything.
It's a shame that there hasn't been any real direct dialogue from the devs about this, nothing new anyway and offering a really convincing argument and acknowledging people's concerns.
I've held off buying IC and any future content as I've been completely put off by the experiences shared by people on the forums around difficulty forming groups and these shortcomings in communication. These are such vital parts of an MMO it boggles the mind that voice chat is the only option. It's great in dungeons but could never have worked out in the world.
As soon as it's fixed I'll be back on board, happily pick myself up a bluetooth keyboard and whatever expansions I've missed. ESO is fun questing and messing around in single player but it's not even half the game it could and should be as an MMO, which is quite sad.

Not all developers are created equally and you should use your money to let them now what you think of their effort. Digital Extremes is a fantastic developer and they openly communicate with their community (or as much as any developer can). Their dev streams include information about upcoming game mechanics and content, even when it is still in alpha or beta. They have fun but keep the discussion about the game, not about their favorite Chevy Chase movie. They also address balance issues even if they cannot deploy them immediately and best yet, they actually apologize for half measures and any missteps they have made in the past.
The fact that ZOS still hasn't even commented on this issue is quite telling about how they plan to support the console community. I have been a part of very good and bad communities before and, sadly, ZOS is more similar to the latter. That being said, ESO still has so much potential that it is a shame to see ZOS treat the console community this way.
