I haven't seen any flame on this thread, have seen some feigned indignation which quite frankly is lame beyond belief, but from what I can tell there ain't nastiness floating about. Just an awful lot of frustration because the majority are being willfully ignored.

Yup sums up the thread. I'm not here to argue. I'm not here to "help" anybody. I'm here to continue voicing my support for the feature being added and most people are aswell. Theres a few people entertaining exchanges with certain folk ofcourse but aslong as we keep this thread positive maybe ZOS will listen to us (lol)

Xbox one - Since xbox has updated to implement a usb keyboard as long as you have it plugged in before you turn your system on. I would like to just be able to press enter on the keyboard to switch to
the text box. That way none of the buttons on the controller are changed.

If that isn't possible due to technical problems, then bringing up the social menu just as we do now and have text chat as an option just below where voice chat currently is. Just click on it from there to take you into text chat.

From either of those starting points we should have the same typical options as most TC systems. Different channels, area, zone, no world chat, until cross faction play comes along.

This way once your in TC, your keyboard, chatpad, smartglass, whatever your typing with controls TC. Not your actual controller.

Oh I will be willing to bet my house on text chat being added.. Will it be before the game community is down to less than 1/3 of what it is now? I do not know.. It might take empty servers to get them to move on this. But Text chat will be in the game I can say that without flinching. Like I said it may take the game almost dying to get them to throw out a hail marry to save it just like they did with canceling the Sub Fee to save it.. But it will come. We might not be playing then, but oh well.

I'm inclined to agree with you, but not with quite as much confidence. Seems to me it just depends on how stubborn this company will be. They tried something new, it hasn't worked out, now it's just a matter of time before they admit they were wrong.

Admit that you were wrong, about face, u-turn.. takes guts, integrity and a pinch of humility to do that. Some people never can manage it. My fear is that the person whose brainchild it was to leave text out is one of those hard ass stubborn types who can never admit he is wrong. We all know these people exist. Sometimes this steadfast, unfaltering belief in their own convictions is a thing to be admired, all the more so when they are proved right in the end.

Yet when they are in the wrong, and the crowd overwhelmingly thinks that they are in the wrong, and still they refuse to address their mistake.. well, then they just look like stubborn asses.

Like you said it might end up being a desperate hail mary a year from now to try and win back the legions of console players that have left. Well Zos, bad news is that may be way too late for many and the proverbial horse will have done one, shutting and bolting the barn door behind it as it leaves.

Or we could all take action and do something about it. Allow me to share a true story with you.

Turbine [The makers Of Asherons Call] was strongly against allowing skill resets in the game. After an outcry by the players to add this feature they still stood firmly against it.. Well there was a few websites around back then and forums like maggijackats and Acvault players got together and mailed letters to the offices in California.

Also the DEV team held yearly meetings at hotels where the players could attend sort of parties WITH THE DEVELOPERS! at one of these yearly parties it was decided that skill resets were indeed going to be added to the game..

Now I am not saying that ZOS will ever hold these kind of get togethers, but we could all put our feelings on paper and spend the .49 cents to mail them our feelings. I would say after a few hundred get in the right hands we will at least get an answer to our question lol.

Fun story:

I queued up for the pre-Vet version of Fungal Grotto (something I've been doing since I hit l12...three levels ago at the time).

Got grouped with two others....saw a voice indicator (hadn't put my mic in my ear as it wasn't a full group)...then a minute or so later I got a PSN message "travel to me" - a group member wanted to get going with just the three of us.

All good....we three manned it with little issue, well aside from the complete nub of a healer. What an idiota he was. Which is another story....three templars in the group, only one queued as anything other than a DPS.



Anyway....a group member had to goto the PS cross bar, to send other group members a simple message! And throughout that instance, not a single word was spoken.

And yes, I'm fully aware I've said I'd use voice for instances...but I had it switched off. Nobody want's to hear me snuffling like a pig digging for turfffles due to a blocked nose. Definitely not when it's combined with my apparent accent.

Am I the only console player that has had a keyboard hooked up to their console for text chat even as far back as the Playstation 2? I truly must be, as it seems to be a lost art amongst our current generation of players. I have a nice backlit LED keyboard plugged into my PS4 right next to the dongle for my Turtle Beach headset. How do I charge my controllers you ask? Simple, I own two controllers and a charging dock.

Alot of us do. It's what we use when we play an MMO like FFXIV, Neverwinter and DCUO. When I want to do quests, listen voice actors and investigate closets, I play the RPG known as ESO, which is Skyrim 2. ZOS must have been smoking crack when they said console players didn't use keyboards and slouched on the couch all day. The same crack they were smoking when they said PC users don't like to hear other people's voices or don't like to use controllers. I have a better one, neither console or PC players like to actually "role play" in a role playing game according to ZOS, since we can't even use the names we named our characters. No, instead we get to do quests while watching "bigdaddyshotya" running around killing stuff in front of you. And the dude is a girl in a bikini with a flame staff. Yea, nice touch.

I came back to ESO for the quests, but that's it. Once again, I got bored. At VET 3, I have to walk around Wayrest talking in my mic "tank for vet daily, all vet 3 gear" and prostitute my game toon to get a stupid group. Even Warframe does communication better. This game is not an MMO. I renewed my sub to FFXIV for the MMO fix. Know what, that's wrong. I renewed my sub to FFXIV because they actually LISTEN to the community and don't ignore us like ZOS.

There's been so many posts i can't read them all,but regarding how to first open up a text box if it wasn't to be on screen at all times...(so,sorry if i missed posts with similar solutions)

Have it assigned to a keyboard key.I know this will annoy some controller only players,but i think it'd be the quickest and easiest way for it.Besides,usb keyboards can be extremely cheap.(I don't own an xbox1 but don't they have that add on also for controllers,a mini keyboard that slots in?)

Same key would also close it.

Ofcourse,once you have it open,the controller buttons are re-appropriated to switching channels etc as well as being able to use the keyboard for that,so yes you are out of the game but it would have several levels of transparency so you can still see if you get attacked or what not and again,a simple key press will shut it down to get you right back into the game.

If you are controller only,for the ps4 at least a swipe left or right could open it.I again have no idea what the xbox1 has on its controller that could be used.

You could also have the option for a semi transparent text box to be on your screen at all times(and allow you to resize it)

This should of been implemented sooner but the poll speaks for itself and just to keep everyone happy allow an option in the settings to disable it, problem solved for everyone.

That's just not good enough for some people. Some people (albeit a withering minority) don't want text chat at all.. even if they can turn it off and never see it.

Why is it that nobody cares that the PC players that want controller support will have to buy a $50 controller to use the feature.

But, everybody is up in arms that consoles users may have to buy a $15 keyboard to use a text chat feature?

Why are there so many double-standards when it comes to consoles vs PC?

What I'm confused about is...why have to go into the options menu to see text chat?

That will disable my movement and camera movements allowing me to be more vulnerable to be attacked by surprise

But also...if we go into the options menu to surprised chat, why not just go along and place an on and off button to have a window open in the ui, so if I wanted I can run and talk and be able to see everything said when ever rather then having to check the options menu all the time.

By the way avoid confusion I mean pressing the options button, when I say options, I'm talking abo it the ps4 option button n the controller, that brings you to the menu like social and inventory and skills etc...

I feel like just going to the options menu and turning text chat on and off when you wanna see what's said is no different than having to go into the options menu to actually see text...but my idea is better because then you can just leave it in your ui and play if you please

Besides all this, I think this is more black and white anyways...

To save u reading too...a few folks in this thread and a lot more in other threads on the same topic begin with ideas on how the chat box would function vs using chat bubbles or customizable radial chat.

A lot of interest was shared towards a chat box vs chat bubbles or radial chat so everyone came with how to and possibilities to use the box while playing like on PC. We realized that either chat had to become primary or game play had to become primary unless a keyboard gameplay support was added too.

-Result in my thoughts:
This caused me to suggest moving the idea of a chat box possibility into the social menu where our voice chat and other social interactions are. Instead of having each separate social category the chat box menu option could merge voice chat, emotes, group, guilds, friends, items, and mail into one simplified interface which is all held within the chat box.

If someone wanted to get to any of the other categories the chat box tabs would replace those.
The tabs would have a short menu to open what use to exist and to allow ppl to link and items from the item menu and chat in any tab or category so trading , grouping, guilding, etc all flow better.

This eliminates needs for separate channels and also opens up the entire controller.
Piping out allows optional use to see and read/react during gameplay.

Of course typing would always be simple as hitting enter and typing but all the other functions are now clean and simified in a way that offers solutions by tabs to most people's concerns without sacrificing gameplay and keeping this all optional but enhances what does and doesn't exist.

---Edit: when its popped out you'd be able to type and stuff within whatever you're under but full access and options would be limited to being within the social menu chat box. And the voice chat is here so as we turn on/off communication it allows voice and/or text all in one spot. The communication hub

The idea is to add to what exists without causing anyone to need to relearn how to play.
The ZOS team would need to further develop keyboard function keys based on each console and how each supports a keyboard.

-For examples: Xbox doesn't support all function keys, number pad and tab or shift other than letters and numbers.



If they did this, then this to me is a very practical way to provide solutions for people without reinventing the horse. This wouldn't add zone chat tho.
/say - prix
/group - group with allows linking items and maybe a travel to me prompt on screen that the controller could allow users to accept for controller only
/guild - has guild chats and guild same options as group above
/ friends, items, emotes and mail would be the go to for recruiting outside of prox chat and even have a way for ppl to invite friends, players etc manually into a chat box interface that prob would be a go to for other complaints.

Goodness, this has gone on an awfully long time with no official response. As of this posting, 84% of those polled want text chat on the consoles, it is pretty obvious that the overwhelming majority of players would like this standard feature that has been in console MMOs for ages.

However, the "Quick Messaging System" he mentions is something I'd like on PC very much, since it translates those phrases to all supported languages. Very useful on the EU servers.

Yeah... that is the most stupid reason not to add text chat. (Im talking about the link you posted).

I play my ganes when I am in my bed, laying down. I like it that way. After work and after working out I like to relax in my bed and every mmo I have played, i played... from my bed and I was able to use text chat perfectly.

I highly doubt the reason they gave was the real reason they didnt add it. It is just too stupid....

What? Why the hell would you even care for PC controller support unless you already owned a PC controller?

Why should anyone care if you don't own one but want to buy one?

Why can't you use a cheaper 15 dollar controller? I Just bought a logitech gamepad for 20 bucks to play rocket league on PC and it works great.
