Templar Changes - Still Not Feeling The Love, Or Are You Feeling It A Little?

I've played a full magicka-healer/buff-templar on respective caps. The resto-staff patch (-10%dmg) hit my char pretty hard. After all the changes since August I decided to stay on max magic damage while raising my Stamina (CC / Mobility / Immovable). At 2000 magicka/11x spell dmg - my crit heals are less often far above 1200-1400. More Stamina is the way to go for pvp..! But the main reason to play a more stamina-oriented templar is "Radiant Light", imo one of our best skills!

What concerns me the most is that there is a huge gap in the Ultimate Point regen system. That means: to regenerate Ultimate Points with a Resto Staff works 3-4 times faster than doing so with most of Templar heals (functions by crit-healing).

So if I want to be a power-healer in PvP/PvE by just using Templar Heals I pay a high price because my Ultimates regenerate much slower. That doesn't feel balanced! I think a healer who heals 1000+ by spending more magicka than any resto-staff heal-spammer should GAIN MORE ULTIMATE POINTS than just resto-staff heal spamming!

Maybe one of you guys could do some stats, or a little video and post into a thread - topic: to improven Templars Ultimate regeneration. You need to work out how much faster Ultimate Reggen works with "mini skills" like Rapid Regen and Healing Springs vs. Ultimate Reggen with Breath of Life + Cleansing Ritual + Healing Ritual.

At least, Cleansing Ritual should regenerate Ultimate as Healing Springs does (heal crit ticks) BUT, unfortunately, it doesn't at all! We need a guy to take some pictures and do the math and post it in a ZOS-understandable way. Focus on this topic: this is really about balancing! More Ultimate reggen for our restoring light tree!

    I dont know, you have all had some great points. I could take up any arguement. I play my Templar as a heavy tank/archer with some moderate healing(sort of Paladin style). I only refrain from taking up any one arguement, for two reasons;

First; most of your arguements are PVE based. Thats fine, I know there are just as many people who are PVE oriented as there are PVP. I, as the latter PVP type, think my Templar is doing just fine. I would like to see it bit of magica regen help though. I dont care about duels and finding 1v1s. Sometimes I zerg, sometimes I gank in a small group. Regardless, I find a way to make what I have, work for me.

Which brings me to point 2; A huge part of the problem with Templars is the way that they are played, not the class itself. Saying that Templars are broken because they cant keep up with another class some area is mislead. Its like saying a dumptruck is broken, because no matter how much I soup up the engine, it wont keep up with a Ferrari. Using the right tool for the job should be obvious here. As a tank Templar, I know I am just that, a meat sheild. In PVE I keep adds off of the healers, and back up heal when I should. I save my burst DPS for the bosses.

In PVP, I am never the one to push the edge of a fight, I let others do that. I move around from place to place during a fight, adding support and capitalizing on advantage where I can.

To put it another way, I think I am good at playing my Tamplar, because I know my role, is to give the others around me the opportunity to be better.

I hope that makes sense. Either way, just my .02

    Feeling The Love (Useful changes)
This thread is from oct13 but........After countless build threads and helping people with Templar since release....people still dont know wth they are doing as Templars.

I retired my Templar successfully. He rocked trials/PvP/ and solo play. Templar never needed a buff, theyve always been strong. They do require creativity and gear grooming to make them better than anyone other class. You also have to have the right loadout and some kind mental calm when in the heat of battle. Its a cerebral class.

When the players complained before the games monsters were nerfed about not being able to solo: I posted this http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/106373/templar-build-for-troubled-templars#latest

When i attempted to explain the mechanics behind the cerebral play of Templar i posted this:

All good Templars are OP! The reason for this is they know their class and they know the limits of there abilities. I have played a Templar since beta, and while there are a few things I wish would change, like stat regeneration, It's something that can't. Game balance seems pretty good. I have done the one on one fights, even the 3 on one fights, and won or made it to a draw. Templars don't really have a burst dps at least not that I have found but that is more than compensated by steady damage and survivability. I haven't pulled out my dark flare ability lately but, when Templars got the big change, I could melt players with it. Overall Templars are the most versatile class in the game that is why they are OP.

Every single one of you seems to have grossly overlooked the main point that everybody before this Third Page Of This Thread have spoken about; We do not ask for PvP or Solo Play Buffs, or buffs to our healing or tanking, we're asking for PvE DPS that's at least on par with other classes, and not be forced to have to use mostly stamina to do so.

I am not saying we're exactly underpowered, because for most things we're not, and in my humble opinion we're the only class that can take on DKs in PvP directly in their face and not get handed around like a joint at Woodstock.

I am however saying that for Caster DPS and on some occasions Stamina Based Melee DPS (At the very least before this recent sex patch, and I say sex because it felt that good) Templars have a harder time than other classes. I get the argument that "You should use the right tool for the job", I do, you're right, sort of. A Nightblade or Dragonknight should be used for melee DPS better than a Templar or Sorc, but not grossly so, not with such a massive edge as it currently sits right now, not when the game is advertised with a "Play as you want" mentality that boasts things will be somewhat equal at the very least.

I admit that I'm a bit sour with Templar Class Skills, but at the same time I'm pretty content with my DPS as it often gets the job done when it comes to crunch time, and frankly, I'm alright with how things work right now. I will say that Templar Casters are kinda screwed, but only kinda, and since I'm not one, I won't touch on it too much.

Please understand that I'm not saying we're weak entirely, and sure as hell I'm not saying we're weak in PvP, just that our PvE DMG needs a little love is all.
Bobbity Boop, this game might become poop, but I'll still play because I'm just a pile of goop!

I just took my Templar to Vet lvl 2, not seeing any issues, he's as strong as ever, and can heal himself and others easily, making him a good companion if your taking on a Dolmen or dungeon.

The only weakening I've seen with him is his biting jabs seems a tad weaker, but he's still stronger than my DK imho.

The hard casting mechanics of backlash and dark flare are also lame. But Kiva is 100% correct regarding the point of this. The class needs a viable caster dps build.

Just a recap here, the weakening in Biting Jabs was strangely against VR1 characters only, against VR2 Characters it's as strong as ever, will get around to trying it on VR3 characters just as soon as I level up some other characters a bit more.

Before ESO came out, I wanted to be a Templar, because I didn't want to be the classical mage, but more of a good mage who could heal the wounds of his allies and strike with powerful spells infused with the power of the sun. Unfortunately, the caster part (spells with power of the sun) was a huge letdown. I'm still hoping for a buff to the Dawn's Wrath tree, because this tree (together with Restoring light tree) was the reason I created a Templar, to be a "good" mage instead of the "evil" sorcerer who uses Daedric magic.

With that said, I'll repeat the most wanted changes for the devs to see:

    1. Sun Fire - Faster projectile
    2. Solar Barrage - Faster animation; Dark Flare - Faster projectile with a 35 % chance to proc (like Crystal Fragments, but without the decreased cost)
    3. Backlash - remove cast time OR increase maximum damage; Purifying Light - massively increase the healing pool
    4. Eclipse - kind of a useless spell. Maybe lower the magicka cost to make it more viable
    5. Searing Light (Blinding Light morph) - Make it so the damage happens always, not only when the targets are affected by the debuff.
    6. Nova - 200 ulti cost instead of 288 (with all passives applied)

I made a thread about the Dawn's Wrath line that got a @ZoS Employee to respond to it. I suppose if Update 6 ever comes around we'll get what we're asking for, because Dawn's Wrath isn't the only tree that needs a *** of polish.

Hell, Templars aren't the only class even.

For me, Dawn's Wrath is the only tree. Aedric Spear is powerful enough. Okay, in Restoring Light we have a few useless skills, but then again what class doesn't have that?

Besides that, I do think my Sorcerer friends could use some buffs to their class right now as well.

Aedric Spear is alright, but could be better tweaked to offer an easier alternative to actually DPSing in melee using magicka skills. I mean ***, look at DKs and NBs; Their class skills are melee to medium range and they hit like trucks, whereas we have the one and only the one that's regularly viable for damage, with Spear Shards and Sunfire being used mostly for DoTs and Resource Management for other players.

I saw a DK in full heavy armor use a 2H and Magicka Enchants and just steamrolled everything in site, matching me, the Templar in 5/1/1 M/H/L Armor with a 2H enchanted for Stamina and Weapon Damage. That's both skill and a better toolbox at work there, and that's what I want for Templars.

That class synergy with itself, DK's and fire, NB and stealth/melee, Sorcs and Lightning, I want Templars and Magic or Melee or something other than healing damn it.
