Haha! Had a good laugh :D Now let's talk about the metric system... o:)

:'( Yes... lets talk metric... Avoirdupois... Thank you England ;) Or France... really should read up on that.

    Haha!

It was introduced by France. If we were doing things the English way it would be the imperial system.

On the NA server is just general zone chat dribble that everyone has already seen in WoW. Nothing too extreme, if i see something i dislike, /ignore is there for a reason. Definitely not anything along the lines of Racism towards other languages (although i wouldn't put it past somebody!).
Just generic nerf arguments, newb comments, and WTT/WTS/WTB lol

I agree that zone chat should be English only (German here). There's special zone channels for French and German, so if you see those languages in the "global" zone chat they might have overlooked that chat option - so just tell them to switch to the respective channel (/whisper and explain where they can find the chat options).
Hopefully Zenimax will add some more channels in the future, e.g. for Spanish which is one of the world languages having nearly as many native speakers as English and three times as many as French.

The reason for the hate is because the communities tradionally have been seperated. There's very little hate towards the Nordic communities, that's because they've always played on the English servers, and you generally don't hate the people who you play with.

The problem is that the population in Germany, France, Italy and Spain dosen't learn English at school, or atleast didn't in the past. In my opinion it's on the border to abuse of the population when in this Internet age you don't learn English by default in school.

If all the countries mix most players will eventually learn English, since that the most used language. That atleast happend in AoC. The language barrier used to be a problem and then the players slowly learned English. Then the hate towards certain countries were reduced.

travelling around Europe I can tell you that nearly everyone below a certain age in Germany and France speaks very good English.

In fact it is us Brits that are the disgrace in terms of learning language.

Lol, Have you read about the history of the English language? It's basically every country we have ever invaded (which was pretty much everywhere at some point) and ruled, then we pinch the words that sounded good and made them our own. So technically English is the True Global language ;)

As a Dutch player I am happy I have the option to play on the US megaserver, I kinda like the fact that I can understand everyone is saying.

Tried playing on the European server, but way too many languages I don't speak. Not that I really fit in with the USA mindset all the time (very militaristic compared to the Dutch for example), but it's not something that is annoying. Being unable to understand the language is.

There are just too many languages in Europe to split them up into mega- or should I say mini-servers.

Which is kinda funny since the 3 main european languages in ESO are exactly those you were taught in school.

Lol, even the English don't expect everyone to speak English, I don't. As for everyone playing nicely, it depends who's playing.

Some people stir up racist just by walking into the room, other do their best to calm everything down. (Note I live near Liverpool, where "calm down" is fighting talk.)(No, I'm not joking, just in case you've never visited Liverpool).

Add to the mix nearly two thousand years of insults, wars, politics and worse actually visiting other countries (you either understand that one or not, won't explain it). And European tempers can be lost very easily.

All you can do is try to keep the peace, and hope people get it out of their system.

@fyendiarb16_ESO Well, yeah, of course I only meant that people would be accustomed to a multilingual atmosphere, not that they'd see the continent as more important than their home countries.

Then again, I've heard more about these types of problems with those who have to most directly work within multiple languages due to both being prominent within a single community. For instance, French and Dutch in Brussels, French and German in Switzerland, Catalan and Spanish in Catalonia, etc. So, I dunno.

(I'm actually going to Brussels for a bit this summer and was told to just speak English because people will hate you if you speak French.)

Im going to Sweden next spring and was advised just speak English unless its his parents, then just let him do the talking. They dont speak English. :/
