What the hell was that?

So I'm sneaking around outside fort ash, which is under ebonheart control (my character is daggerfall), while a daggerfall group was attacking the front gate. I was trying to rejoin with the main attack force, since my character is a healer and not much good on his own.

An enemy player manages to somehow see me from quite a distance away (bow-ish range, i'd say like 20-30 meters) without magelight, despite that I was sneaking and am a khajiit with stealth bonuses (though wearing light armor, so no medium armor sneak bonuses apply).

The guy charges at me with the shield charge ability. I start to cast dark flare. About halfway through the 1.5 second cast time, My magicka and stamina bars both plummet, going from 100% to 0% before the spell even finishes casting. Within the next second, I'm dead.

I didnt see the death recap before respawning, but I have NEVER seen any ability in the game that drains the enemy's magicka or stamina, and certainly not 100% of both pools within less than a second.

Am I correct in assuming that this guy was most likely using some form of exploit or cheating/hacking in cyrodiil? Unfortunately I didnt get a screencap so I dont have a name for reporting purposes, but this just seems really fishy to me. I've been killed quick, but never disabled like that.

This happened to me too today on Auriels Bow EU. When i was in fight then suddenly my Stamina and Magicka was 0... from 100% to 0% in lesser than a second. There were about 5 players attacking me so I don't know if this is a cheat/hack or bug.

Yea, I'm on auriel's bow as well. Wonder if it was the same guy =P

You know when sometimes you die so fast or lag a little you stamina and magica drop before your hp? well that's what happened and this guy hit you.

Because if it is, and that guy is who I think it is.
He isn't cheating, he spent about 5 hours working out that build that allows him to do that.

If some players can one-shot peeps by doing 6.6K damage with stampede I think you have your answer Lynx.

As for the lag your stamina/magicka dropping from 100% to 0 because of the one-shot before you died

1. Server lag (it's always server lag if you listen to THEM)
2. Cheat Engine, client acceleration from the player that one-shot you would be my guess.

We have a member in our guild who has this hard hitting ability, its not a hack just a very complicated build.

6,6k dmg on stampede is a "complicated" build? Link or [snip]

It's hardly a oneshot. I doubt the 6.6k is accurate but if it is, the only way to do that much damage would be with all kinds of bonuses and debuffs stacked, a lot of which requires the other guy to be at low health and probably from multiple people.

Its not a lag issue, its a new bug. I had my magicka and stamina drop to 0 while casting and my spell was cancelled. I wasn't even being attacked, nor did I die.

Previously when I had my magicka and stamina drop to 0, it was always when my character was already dead but the client was too slow to update. That was before 1.1.2. Have yet to experience it again since the patch so can't really comment but most likely it is because your character is already dead on the server side but client side had yet to reflect it.

Just to add for ppl that question some situations, u better believe there are hacks in ESO and used in pvp. I was invited to a small group when i was ganking along side these 2 ppl, the 2 players would move straight through rocks,cliffs, buildings etc and at times speed of in a random direction and manage to spot a stealthed enemie when they had no view of where this guy was hiding.

I've seen bots teleport-hacking to grind/farm nodes but i've been spared so far in pvp.

I don't deny that there are hacks but from my almost 15 years experience in MMOs, I know that 90% of all "hacks" are just people being outplayed or seeing stuff they didn't understand or knew existed.

That's why I made this post to ask about it. Up until now I havent seen any hacks or botters in pvp/cyrodiil, but the circumstances of this particular death were pretty unusual.

I get killed all the time in cyrodiil, especially when I'm solo since my character is meant for group support. I'm not complaining about the death, or crying hacks because I was 'outplayed', I just think it was unusual to suddenly be completely disabled a second or two -before- I was killed. It could have been lag, I'm sure, though I wasnt experiencing any before the engagement.

The OP said he could have been up to 30meters away. Also there are stealth hacks floating about.

Have him reveal it to the devs by /bugging it. I am going to bug it myself but I can't provide any details other than it's Templars and Stampede.

If you don't want to reveal the "build" thats fine, but lets not act like there isn't at least one exploit going on to generate a 6k+ attack.

Its not an exploit, its nothing like using caltrops or invincible mercs etc..
Its more like how DKs used to be borderline immortal through a normal build.

Ya, I'm just going to take your word for it that a single ability (that is not even an execute type) can hit for 6.6k without abusing/exploiting the existing mechanics. Right......

Its not just Templars and its not a hack. At least for me its not. Stampede auto crits. If you have shadow stone, mundus stone armor, high crit weapon dmg and a few buffs like some 2H ones. You can hit for big numbers. I've killed several people in 2-3 successful stampede. The ability can be used from about 3 meters away and you immobilize your target. Its really easy to circle your opponent using this ability.

I've never hit for 6k but I guess if you used the range morph on it and used some pots it could be successful with VR10+.

I actually stopped using the ability because it became to easy for me to gank people on my 2H nightblade. The fact that you could animation cancel a heavy attack while using this ability at the same time and causing several 800+ damage attacks was a bit ridiculous.

Stealth + Stampede + Momentum+ heavy attack animation cancel could easily one shot anyone.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was the next bash.

One does not need to wait for zenimax to officially declare that something is an exploit to know that it is an exploit. To me it would seem that anyone not head deep in denial should have already come to the a priori conclusion that hitting for over 6k in one hit is not something the devs intended for anyone to do.

Do you have any explanation that could lead anyone to believe that this is an intended mechanic of the game?

Yes. Don't you see this is part of the plan to fix Cyrodiil lag? If more ppl leave pvp because of uber 1 shotting, then it'll free up server load and reduce lag. It's cheaper than upgrading their data center.

If you want this looked at by devs, then go make a vid of exploiting this mechanic in PvE.
