I feel like the most hardcore people in the game are the ones who make most of the forum posts. So most of what you hear is talk about end game.

I bet a lot of people love leveling and questing. But you hear from them less.

    Wise words.

I would like to add that there is a significant difference in gameplay, type of person and enjoyment if you are "leveling", sounds like working to me.

I play the game. Its awesome, and I think its near impossible to find all the different/wierd odd things the crazy people at Zenimax have done so well.

I urge people to try and play instead. Use your sense and get involved in your story.

I keep hearding that some people saying ESO is a quest grind, same all over.

Are we playing the same game? I have yet to found a single quest that was a copy of another. My proof of this, isn't just the huge difference in what the quest involves, but every quest has a story that makes sense! Not just some drivvel mumbo jumbo. Some belong to the Tamriel confliced world somehow, another quest which I still am curious as hell about is when I met a mad looking dark elf wizard who offered me 500 gold for my soul. This was in a camp where the Dark elves had enslaved a group of Kajiits.

Since I am an orc, selling out my honor by selling my soul. I rather die then doing anything of the sort!

Has anyone run into this one and knows what happens if you say yes and he gives you 500 gold now, and 500 when he is "collecting" your soul?

Same quests. A statement like that isnt just wrong, its a lie.

I decided to take a risk and ride around to look at the zone and guess what, there where tradeskill nodes, fishing, even PVEquests and dungeons! No one told me that! (which is one of the main things in ESO, you explore and find out for yourself. A skyhard even....thought I read up and saw there was 15 skyshards to get at each side of the 3 alliances. That makes 45 skyshards in that zone alone.

Guess I was thinking in the context of not liking pvp. not the pve content, dungeons & skyshards.

My wife and I very much enjoy the leveling process. The only issue we have is that by the time we finish an area, we're 4-5 levels higher than the intended content. I know and understand Zeni has to put progression somewhere in the middle - because for every player like us, there's someone out there who zips through a zone without doing all the quests and exploring every nook and cranny.

But overall, we're very much enjoying leveling and questing in this game. We didn't come to ESO for PVP or making 50 within the first week or two.

Sort of, it has to be done anyway.
But I do like getting skill points.
I want to make my character the best it can be.
Although you may get skill points while on the journey up, I really think a reward for finally getting the 3 million or so XP to make the next VR level should deserve a skill point.

Not sure where I go wrong but always find myself at least half to one level behind the next zone. Do all the quests, solo dungeons, bosses & dolmen or go back to them if no other players were around to help at the time.

I generally dislike leveling, but not because I want to buy a max level character with tricked out gear... rather because I really don't like level based systems. ESO handles the concept better than most, because you can still improve skills partially independently, but even that is still locked away mostly behind the level gate (it's just not practical to try and run around high level zones getting skyshards to unlock new abilities).

I'd prefer a system that does away with level advancement entirely, and moves even further into the "use it to improve it" model, along with enemies in all zones being programmed to be dynamically reflective of your power scale rather than "this zone is good for level 1-15, the next is for 16-25, etc." I want to start in whatever zone I feel like, and whether I've played a character for 5 minutes, five hours, or 5 months, feel as though the enemies I'm encountering are a suitable challenge for me (or a tough challenge in the case of boss monsters I shouldn't be able to solo) rather than some zones being populated with enemies that can one shot me with a dirty look, and other zones being such low level I'm lucky to get rawhide scraps off something if I bother to kill it (Better just to leave those bandits to their work, since they don't offer any xp or loot, am I right?).

The whole circular logic concept of fighting for xp so I can gain level so I can fight higher level enemies is just daft to me, and just because that's the way Gary Gygax taught us to do it 30 years ago doesn't mean that it's the best way to do it or that we should keep doing it that way because everybody's afraid to do something else.

But then I guess I'm probably wrong, because damn, you should see some of the horrible, hateful things people say to me for thinking this way. Guess I'm just a gaming heretic who thinks we can do better, but only if we stop being too lazy or too afraid to try.

Has anyone else noticed how few complaints about ESO there are in this thread compared to the other threads in the forum? Maybe most of the problems are with end game content?

Or perhaps the whiners and complainers are those that rushed through the game.

I am a VR3 and I stopped doing quests in Coldharbour since they give way to many exp points. I don't want to get to the "End" so fast. I love doing quest but the game took them away from me when they increased the experience. I wish they would go back to the way they gave experience in beta.
It would be great if there was an option at the beginning of the game or something.

Enjoyed it up until i'd finished the main quest line and then I got sent to zones I don't like.

    Then I stopped enjoying it.

I hate the AD zones and I don't like grinding so i'll never see max VR levels.

Going to finish the main chain on my Nightblade and then i'll be done here.

Well i am a big fan of questing, i mostly like to play single RPG, i play MMOs only for PvP since single player games don't have that feature. My honest and humble opinion is to be competitve in PvP or PvE you have to be Veteran Rank player, so actually even ZOS will defend their questing, the problem that i point out making questing a burden. There is no balance in PvP between a level 10 and a VR12, it shouldn't be also. If you design all game for best loot, for highest level characters, people will rush. I am really sad a couple of months job for a raid, rendered whole game useless. All these effort they put in for questing is now useless, everyone's priority to rush to VR12, why they did this it is impossible to understand cause these end-game raiders, will consume game in less than one month and move to next game. Where is the taverns we can interact with other players? Maybe small games to make stronger community? No they have to go after the same mentality as World of Warcraft gone and rush everyone, make ready for the Last Tier Raid. I am honestly disappointed, maybe i was expecting lot but this is going to be same game like hundreds of others.

I really enjoy the quests in this game. They are well scripted and play out very well. I level in a duo so we always get nice exp.

Not a 100% completionist but I made sure we hunted down the shyshards, bosses, dungeons and delves with no help from addons. Hit level 50 while still playing through The Chasm. No grinding required.

Veteran content is also a challenge and journey for me. I understand that the 10 vet ranks are spread across 2 campaigns that can take you from 1 to 45. So 1 veteran rank is like the same effort as 9 regular levels. Makes sense to me.

Also playing in a duo means we punch above our weight. 1 + 1 is more than 2 when it is a co-ordinated pair of veteran MMO players.

I understand what you are saying, and while I really like EOS and think the questing and aesthetic design is much better than any other game I have played, I also fear you may be correct. Have you ever noticed how little difference there is between different automobiles, between toothpastes, between grocery stores, etc, etc, etc... the reason is that the designs are proven and sell - making changes to a proven design is very difficult to justify because sadly for profit companies are here for one reason - not to make a minority happy, but to make as much money as possible. I think WoW has a lot of design problems from a questing point of view, but I completely understand why they do what they do - it makes money. It makes me sad to think that ZOS will tailor EOS to optimize making money, but I understand why they will do that.

I hate questing in this game. I got so bored in the first 20 levels I just couldn't read another thing, every single option is clicked through as rapidly as my finger will let me. Couldn't care less about the choices etc. I get really annoyed when I find a decent mob to grind for xp then they hotfix it or somethin. It's really putting me off this game the fact ZOS are dictating how you should play and level rather than let people choose there own methods. I'm certainly not condoning flat out exploits but take kardala, they hotfixed this and was maybe a bit to good a levelling spot but to completely remove the mini bosses is just a joke. Why not reduce there xp so if people choose to level there then so be it. I don't know if I will continue my subscription to the game and I honestly think if I stop playing this I will never play another Elder Scrolls game which I am gutted about but some damage just can't be undone.

I'm about ready to toss my subscription in the trash. The tedius leveling, the recent update in which every boss is now impossible to kill, the bots, and the lack of an economy are killing this game.

I am definitely taking my time to get to max lvl. I never understood the rush people had to get to endgame. I like to read the lorebooks but I can't tell you how many times I've seen people run up to a bookshelf and just open it then run away not even bothering to stop an enjoy the story. I think we're seeing the difference between the TES and MMO community. TES community enjoys every little bit while the MMO community sees an obstacle in their way keeping them from endgame. Not to mention a lot of MMO players don't seem to have to much patience, they would rather play for 2 minutes then do raids and pvp for 3 years till another obstacle pops up.

I am not sure you are doing anything "wrong", I expect different would be a better word. I have noticed that opening treasure chests give a lot of XP, and I always make my own armor as I progress, so I do a lot of killing for rawhide - mud crabs have very high drop rates and exist almost everywhere. I don't like to "farm", so I try to get as much materials as possible "along the way" as I quest.

I also keep my eyes peeled for any daedra's that are in need of killing, and I have a few favorite bandit camps that are a good place to test a new build/roll. But, other than that, I do all the quests (there are side quests I have found wandering off the beaten paths also) and I am usually at least 1 or 2 levels over the quests by the time I finish a zone.

I do wish they would reduce the XP, but I expect that would be rewarded by a massive surge of "this game is awful" posts and reviews...

I should probably mention that my wife and I did the same thing in WoW and before we left we both had the max number of characters all at 90 (the ceiling at the time). It took a few years to get them all maxed, but the journey was fun - mostly. I admit that I didn't think it was reasonable as a level 90 world class hero and I had to "water that farmers spinach"...

I've played since 5 day early access and have a single char at level 40. I like levelling, just exploring and taking my time. It's not a race to me, I am just enjoying the game (despite large amounts of bug driven frustrations earlier on).

To give it context I have played every TES game to date, so I like the slower paced activities as a rule, and am playing it very much like I would play a single player TES game.
It seems from the posts that maybe I am playing the wrong game. I thought I was playing Elders Scrolls. Elders Scrolls to me has always been the RPG and questing king of the hill.

However, it seems that people here would be happier if they could just buy a level 50 toon fully tricked out with the best equipment and skills from ZOS.

Absolutely not in any way. I am literally forced to solo all of the time. If I could say....like group and run dungeons for xp that would make this game decent. But I have yet to see one justification why dungeons cannot provide xp. It's sickening and I am sorry I got involved in this game,

Really any MMO that is this anti group content really should put a disclaimer on the game so people can avoid it. I get more xp killing lame trash mobs solo open world than I do from killing a mob in a dungeon. Not to mention running group content is more challenging and repair bills can tend to be high.

And is there any reason for anyone to be stupid enough to dedicate themselves to say tanking while leveling? You won't use that setup maybe 3 times every 10 levels or so. And so should anyone really pump up health to be a good tank? There is no reason to play any kind of support class whatsoever.

And if you have the personality where you like to cooperate and help others this game is going to penalize you as well. There are times when people are literally begging for a healer or tank for a specific dungeon, and I actually really want to go....but I am not going to just plain waste my time and get virtually ZERO xp and a repair bill. The only thing I get is copies of blue items I already have but they might be leveled one level higher. Thanks I don't need it...though you should have a more interesting loot system anyways.

As I understand it you get more XP from PVP than from running dungeons. Seriously this game as issues. I am not sure what they are afraid of, but if it is because of exploiters??? I don't care there are a lot more important things to worry about than stomping out every little exploit in the game, especially when your "fixes" impact the game content negatively.

VR leveling is even more boring than being at cap with only the easy dungeon/trial grinding and the broken PvP to do.
