Would you still play if this game went free to play?

When I spend many hours playing a game, yes, I do end up buying a perk or two as a way of saying thank you (but, to be honest, no where close to what I paid to play ESO).

I would still play it at least until it starts nitpicking for cash. I really hope it doesn't go that way.

Many people are expecting this game to go free to play. Will it happen? How soon do you think it will happen?

I'm confused. Why did so many people vote no? I'm assuming you play right now. So basically you are saying, "I rather set $15 on fire once a month than play a free game?" Shouldn't it be 100% saying they would play if free since they aren't even losing any money to play? Very confusing indeed? Are people against playing a free game? I like free games, they are free, I am poor, what is the negative side effect? More cosmetic things on sale for people to buy, so what. It isn't any different than buying the imperial edition to get extra crap.

Read their comments. The biggest concern is that the quality of the game will go down, in addition to the concern that an individual will ultimately be forced to spend money to have a chance to play decently. Add to that the concern that those who spend money will have too much of an advantage over those who do not.

People do believe in free stuff, but (ironically) it has to be worth it. I've played GW2 and I've played AOC - both are free to play. GW2 is much, much better in my opinion. In GW2 I never had the worry that "maybe if I spent real dollars, I'd do better," in AOC, it was always in the back of my mind.

A subscription based game removes that doubt. By ensuring a constant influx of money, developers can actually make steady progress, fix bugs and glitches, and provide better content at a better pace. With free to play, you have to accept the idea that "you get what you pay for."

I'm not saying you haven't enjoyed the free to play games you've played - I'm sure you have. I am saying that people do have reasons for not liking them.

Um, yes, this last patch wasnt fixed fast, but it was to be expected since it was so big.

And yes, Zenimax have quite a good roadmap, everything from next week to months ahead.

Nothing is promised when and how, but plans? Sure. Promises that things like the thieves guild and a justice system will come. Yes. When it will come. no.

But they are not just looking at right now.

This is one of the main reasons why I seam so happy with Zenimax, cause haven't seen this much info going out from the headmanageres....since Everquest I believe.

Everyone game and company for that matter are very restricted about their road map, because it can change and then you have customers who dont trust you any more.

they already toss in micro transactions...14.99 for a horse......they give you a horse for 20 bucks and an XP bonus and a pet lol. Id play even if it was free to play, and as soon as Destiny and Minecraft came out, bye bye. Unless it somehow sustained itself as a F2P but I can't see them doing that until ATLEAST the console drop. Im going to give them until december, and then decide where I game from there on out probably. This isn't the only game in existence, and it'll be a bummer not to play it like Ive been planning to for the last year+ but in the end life goes on.

You seriously need your own blog space. 3/4 of your posts are unnecessarily and obscenely long. Many blot out the sun as they soak up 2/3 of a scrolling forum page. My index finger gets tired scrolling the mouse wheel over some single posts of yours. Could please be more direct, chose less words, and less unnecessary lines between sentences to say what you have to say?

it depends on how they end up doing it.
swtor has, in my opinion, a pretty decent p2p -> f2p model.
whereas, every korean mmo i've ever seen seems to lean hard into the realm of pay2win...

so long as they don't offer anything that increases player stats to paying players then i think i'd be fine with it, but if you can get better stats (thereby an edge in pvp, dungeons, etc) from paying, it will ruin any chance for free players to catch up.

if they keep it simply at vanity items such as clothing, armor, mounts, maybe some weapon skins, then go ahead.

    I wouldn't.

But not because it went free-to-play. My reasons are strictly for their game design decisions. If they paid me fifteen dollars a month, I still wouldn't give this game my time.

I played SWTOR in beta, during headstart and for about 5-6 months after release. They have all of my characters that I leveled to end-game and had been raiding on locked up now behind a paywall that I refuse to buy into.

You call that decent? I call that complete horseshit.

I've quit this mediocre garbage already. There are far better things to spend money and time on than this underdeveloped ***. I pity the lifeless fools that sink cash into this generic drivel. I've no doubt at all that this shite will be F2P within 12 months or so, and at that point I might consider checking it out again, but I doubt it.

Yet, here you are; participating in forums and voting yes in a poll to play a game you think is "mediocre garbage" when "There are far better things to do".

Your bull$hit and other lying little $hits like yourself are why these forums are so damned poisonous and one of the biggest reasons this community has imploded.

The best thing ZOS could possibly do for the sake of the game is lock the forums down into "public" and "private" sectors. I bet we would quickly see one hell of a difference in "community" attitude.

No - I want to play a game and not a slot machine.

Free to play games are "not free" at all. If you want to enjoy the full game you pay more than with a subscription. It is a RIPP OFF.

I dont want to be annoyed with ingame shops or any other marketing tricks when I play a game.

Developer should invest their time into game content and improvements and not waste it into ingame marketing instruments.

Absolutely. But define what "play" means, because I "play" a lot of free-to-play titles, by the broadest definition; that being I login occasionally to do repeatable quests, my quota of level-cap/endgame dungeons or raids, and to check my mail and post things to the auction houses and markets.

Free to play means a very large influx of troll kiddies.

The pay system is currently keeping these such trolls at bay since the troll parents are refusing to pay for them.

    Probably not.

Since there's no such thing as a free-to-play game (free to log in is the closest you'll get), I could answer the question more easily had you asked about the game moving to micro-transactions.

    Still no.

I would love to play it and would play it if it was F2P only if they didn't cater to gimmicky F2P BS like most F2P. That said, I do not expect this game to go F2P. The haters are just haters because they had unrealistic expectations. They either expected it to be Skyrim Online (which isn't even technically possible in an MMO) OR they wanted it to be more like WoW which it will never be. Then there are the more mature types who had realistic expectations and say it's great for what it is. This being the case, there will always be a faithful following. SWTOR had a waaaaaaaaaaaaaay more turbulent launch, and that game still has a solid player base. Nuff said.

    Depends.
    Yes if:
    1. Game actually gets content updates
    2. Game dosent become a buggy and or laggy hunk
    3. Everything on the No list dosent happen.
    No if:
    1. Game goes p2w, any form of advantage for real $ is p2w, 50% bonus experience for real $ is p2w for leveling, selling uber gear is pure p2w.
    2. Not everything on the yes list happens.

Free to Play does not mean Pay 2 Win, they are completely separate. So everyone talking about "Micro transactions" F2P dosent even require micro transactions for existence either. The title to this poll is not "Would you still play if this game went pay 2 win".

If it became f2p, it will be filled with more bots and kids who think they're old enough to play the game.
Actually it would probably reduce the amount of bots. And I have met alot of "Kids" who are more mature than adults. I was more mature than many adults 6 years ago when i was 14.
