Hey guys, we have identified the cause of the memory leak that some of you are experiencing, and are working on a fix. It is not related to addons or graphics enhancement programs. We’ll keep you updated. In the meantime, one thing that can help is if you do not spend a lot of time hanging out on the character select screen. Thanks again for your help earlier!

Well after being unplayable yesterday and having issues with it again today, i repaired my client and put it in true full screen and it stayed stable for an hour or so, so its something at least.

Windows 7 64-bit getting the memory leak. I can play for a while but everything else on my computer runs incredibly slow while I have ESO open.

My wife is running Windows 8.1 and can't even get into the game without it crashing since the patch.

No fix today for what is essentially a broken game. Not even an update on what was being done after the issue was identified and possibly worked on. Instead a patch for game difficulty was pushed first. I don't even know.

    Unsubbed.

    FIX for it here

    http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/101863/memory-leak-fix-tested-working-still-choppy-but-no-crashing#latest

Seems to make the game playable by purging RAM at intervals. Though its still choppy at times 2 hours no crashing and my computer is not bogged down

Since you are not experienced in the field of computer science, you should refrain from trying to refute those of us who are.

Those of us with 26 years of software development are able to reproduce the memory leak, and at least 30 of us have CONFIRMED IT.

I love when people brag about how experienced they are. Wow, 26 years... and YOU know how to watch task manager! :)

I have taken several steps to eliminate this issue and found I still get somewhere between 15min to 25 mins of game play before crashing. I have changed video cards, changed cables, eliminated all addon's, turned off the launcher while playing, and found the leak still fills up 8gb of ram in about 15-25 mins. The only common theme I have noticed with people's reports is it seems we are all using some sort of Radeon video card. I have to assume at this point that the leak has something to do with the latest update to crossfire, which I have disabled and found it still did not make a difference. Not sure what else I can troubleshoot at this point, but obviously playing ESO is not one of them.

using GeForce GT540M 2GB here, so not just radeons.. But they said they've already identified the problem and are working on a fix.. it just means a downtime to look forward to I guess.. not how I imagined to spend my first day off this week..

I love this game, but you guys at ZOS are getting bad press: http://www.gamebreaker.tv/news-main/pc-2/eso-new-patch-introduces-crippling-memory-leak/

It's so bad that forcing the client to close through task manager and ending process tree on both bethesda, net and eso.exe does not work much of the time so I am forced to reboot my computer. Serious PITA.

Any word on this? Was hoping to get a long week-end of play time in with the wife but now I can't play at all (error 303 every 5 minutes). She is having no issues on her Mac, go figure, but an update would be great.

It is on their side, they know the problem, you don't need to post your hardware or 'confirmed' they already identified it.

They probably fixed the difficulty bug because that was just changing a variable or reloading an older piece of a file for the mobs in vet ranks. this was another unexpected problem that not everybody gets and is probably way more complicated than mobs having some numbers get changed unintentionally when the patch went live.

THIS IS HOW TO FIX THE CRASHING FROM THE MEMORY LEAK:

    Navigate to C:\Users\Username\Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live
Locate the file UserSettings.txt and open it with Notepad
Locate the line starting SET FULLSCREEN_v5 - it will be set to SET FULLSCREEN_v5 "2"
Change this to SET FULLSCREEN_v5 "1" and save the file
Restart the launcher and hit Play
    Alacrity

Mine rises at about 1MB a second as well. I also get logged out or the game reloads the level about every 5 minutes. I'm assuming this is why. The game is pretty much unplayable for me at the moment. I love Elder Scrolls so I am in no way bashing, I just hope they fix it soon.

I really think everyone who is experiencing this issue just needs to just stop playing until it's fixed. Between this and everything else, I refuse to even open the launcher until I am absolutely confident that all has been resolved. Anyone who plays the game, knowing that there's a serious crash-causing memory leak, is just asking for trouble. Do yourselves a favor and find something else to do for the day or so until it gets patched.

Feel free to completely igore this advice, but dont tinker with the ESO software.
Let them fix the problem and all you have to do, is press the launcher, enter your char in cyrodiil and try to find me!

Seriously, do nothing. Wait. Most of you are americans right? You have alot of stuff to do in your cities. Here in sweden, what the hell can we do to pass the time? Vodka and blond chicks? Boooring.

I'm not going to mess with any files or settings on my system just to be able to play this game. ZOS needs to fix it with an hotfix or something. According to the staff post, they have adressed the issue and they are working on a fix. Let's be patient before changing any settings and messing around with the game files.

This "messing around" is changing "true fullscreen" into a maximized window.

This way your pc will keep your desktop "in mind" and when the memory starts to run out you are able to end the game and you will have a stable desktop.
At least stable enough to restart your pc.

If you encounter that problem while in "true fullscreen" after ending the game your pc will try to load your desktop into the memory... if it´s full your pc will crash.

If you are unexperienced in editing files just go into the gamesettings and change that manually under Settings=>Video.

I recommend the way that was mentioned above as it will be faster and you do not have to start the game.

Just had my first opportunity to play with the patch. Sweet Bob Jesus, this is horrible. There is more than a simple memory leak at work here. Sure the game is leaking worse than Edward Snowden, but it is also constantly hogging a CPU 100%. This means that some genius has made a busy wait statement without even having the common decency to put a thread.sleep(1) in there... He is also allocating memory in there by the looks of it (no way the game could leak memory this fast under anything resembling normal operation).

Programming 101. You just flunked the exam.

If you're currently experiencing a memory leak, could you please let us know if you're running any add-ons (plus the names) and if you're running any game enhancement software or anything graphics related (such as screen recording software). Thanks!

Computer 1: No add-ons and nothing to enhance the game or graphics.
    Computer 2: With add-ons.

Both Computers have mem leaks after 20-30 minutes game play and both reach ram limit. No matter if 4Gb or 8GB ESO eats as much mem it can get.

As already mentioned by other players in certain threads you can reproduce it while staying at login screen and watch how ram goes higher and higher.

You know what? I don't give a flying F if it's standard industry practice to use the patching introduce memory leaks and generally break stuff. I expect, as an absolute minimum, that updates don't make things worse.

It's nothing to do with it being a new game and everything to do with their Quality Control and testing.

Hell, they knew all this crap was in the update and pushed it out to the euro server any way.

Well the worst part is, that all the stuff was communicated by players and a full day later officially by Zenimax. No matter if Vet content or Mem leaks it was known after NA patch, they have patched EU client with this knowledge as well.
Thats ok because they need the same patch level on all systems but why the heck they have not added all the known issues to the proper threads instead leaving players alone again?

We had this End of April shortly before Matt getting back to the commuity on 1st of May.

Well, its just disappointing that the same mistakes are made again and again regarding communication.

+1. What we are seeing here is a collapse of development process. They have no idea what they are doing or where they are going. Such organizational failures are invariably caused by incompetent management. Heroic effort by single employees and groups of employees can stave of disaster for so long, but when the ship sinks the full responsibility falls on the management.

That's my main criticism. I don't have any objection to using the US players as testers, but when it goes pear-shaped at least hold back from inflicting it on the rest of us until a hotfix has been applied!
