Confirmed Memory Leak in 1.1.2

I play windowed - I wonder who else here does?

As previously mentioned here and also posted on Reddit, I cycled from windowed -> Full screen -> Full screen windowed -> windowed and memory usage went down from over 90% to ~70%. Better yet it stayed there and didn't increase so for some at least I really think this is a bandage until the issue is resolved.

I dunno if this is related at all, but I have a pathetic graphics card atm, and ever since the patch, after playing for 1+ hours textures start to get replaced by a bright pink colour with black Xs across. My card probably doesn't even hit minimum required for ESO so I won't complain, just wonder if they changed something that's suddenly leading to this.

It is quite possible (plausible even). I would wait for the resolution to this before buying a new card.

Main drive os/secondary raptor drive : page file and game install
    1280x1280
4-5 add-ons. Before patch 1.1.2 All high settings 60-110fps, occasional cutscreen hang entering exiting areas, but nothing major. Very smooth.

    -After patch 1.1.2-
    No addons
    No accelerators
    No anti-virus
    No firewall
No nothing, standard stock game install
(in fact altered boot to only load catalyst video driver, logitech mouse.)
(increased paging file 8092 and moved to a separate raptor drive.

At 1 point resource manager was 3.88gb, paging file loaded at 7192 and climbing, which at that point locked the computer solid.

    *Fullscreen mode* --Launcher closed--
Works ok for the first 20minutes, 25-35min studdering, with spellcast animations, or running, or traversing on horseback. fps throttles up an down from 100 to 1-5fps. Then either extremely slow performance, or physical game crash to desktop. (if your lucky)
If you alt tab out and check resource monitor after 10min you see 3.77gb an slowly ticking upward, at that point if you alt back to game, computer locks up tight, with the only relief being the reset button, (which is a big NO NO).

At 1 point in a dungeon, video lagged so bad everyone's skins, monster, player,
lootable boxes, skybox, turned pink! could see the dungeon as if I was in unreal engine mapping mode! at that point I know there was a memory leak!

Tried both with high setting and everything to low and vsync enabled/disabled.
    No difference.
When exiting game client (quit), game application hangs (lack of memory)and must be force closed. Assuming your lucky to get back to desktop ,9/10 it physically locks up the computer.

Which under a reset fowled up boot table, and had to repair windows twice to get back into windows.
    ---
    *Full screen-Windowed mode-*
Same as full screen, however memory ticks faster and playtime lessens to 15 min then whamo! Don't bother alt-tabbing to desktop, instant crash or lockup.

    *Side note*
    As a playable standpoint.
Play 25-30min, logout till memory recovers and log back in, otherwise you risk
Computer lockup, with reset via only option, with risk to fragmenting your drive making the os corrupted!!!!! it will bsod......

Edit: I tried different screen resolutions as well, 1024x768-800x800 etc so on.
Still get same results just give or take a couple minutes here an there before it croaks.

Some other guildys with better systems quad/six-core and more ram 8-16 have the same issues, they just get to play 1-2 hours more.

The strange thing is that before it gets killed, the game runs much better, I get 50-60-70 fps, even 90-100 in closed areas (was around 30), and then it's the leak, and/or the purple textures and bam, am lucky if my computer gets through it without needing the reset button.

Hrm. I don't actually have many FPS issues, besides when there are lots of particles going or too many mobs. Mind you I'm playing on minimal settings, dunno about you. Turning the game off always leads to the black screen and game crash that can potentially hard freeze the computer though.

Everything is on high or ultra here, except the textures (for a strange reason I don't have the option since beta, only if I press the default settings), but have the same black screens, crashes and so on. Turning on VSync and launching the game directly with the eso.exe helped a little, the memory fills up slower, but after the first crash it's only minutes and it crashes again, killing my computer too.

I have highest settings and I dont even lag in Cyro.

They have found the problem in the memory leak, which is the MAIN problem why you all cant either log in, or play for very long, or at all if you are cheap people who play with 4GB ram, lol

Let them fix it, and have fun tonight. This is not the first time this exact problem happens to a big MMO. And saying "then they should know" is like saying if you broke your leg once, you should know not to break it again.

Also, when they fix this, most of you will get a pleasant surprise......the game graphics are improved, you will lag less, even if you think its impossible to not lag when the EU server is waaaaay over there.

Leave these questions to the professionals and ASK questions instead of stating things you just think is right.

Again, and Ill put my head out here so you can laugh at me. I would be VERY surprised if the game isnt playable by later today.

I know they are working on a fix and am no way near around cancelling the sub, I love the game. :) The best and most detailed MMO I ever played and there were many, trust me... reminds me on early Lotro, when it was not f2p. Bugs and problems will be fixed sooner or later, the problem is when they are not, which is not the case here.

And you are not alone. Even an ESO fan like me will reconsider, even if I already paid 6-months because the game is so awesome.

Trust me, Zenimax KNOWS this. IT wouldnt surprise me one bit if the CEO of the company was with the technicians/coders/developers simply because of that fact.

The have located the problem, thats more the half the work. Getting a fix is the only thing they are working on right now, but I doubt they create a fix....think it will work and hotpatch. I bet they already have several solutions and testing which will work the best.

Same additude as me, great! I might just be a bit surprised over how many people posting saying they are not doing something.

Since they can "Hotfix" which means they apply code/patch when the application (the game) is running. Its not impossible that the cause of the memory loss is several things and they patch it one by one.

I guess I just was a bit frustrated that people dont understand that we are more important to them then they are to us. and it sounds on you like ESO is pretty damn important to you too, hehe.

And when this memoryleak problem is solved, they have a list they go through to keep solving problems. And when the game is playable, and like I said, looks muuuuuch better all of a sudden, they need to fix other things before the main boss even let them go rest on a sofa at work. Not joking about that part btw ;-)

I guess I see it as they work their butts off and all we do is whine.... :-p

I play it on my mac and there is also a memory leak. I have 16gb ram. When I am in the game I have usually around 9gb still but over the course of an hour I lose another 7gb until I am on 2.x gb and it still goes further down. There is definitely a massive memory leak.

Also my graphics change to minimum randomly although it still says I am on medium graphics. Wonder what that is all about.

Ok, now I know what a memory leak is. Things got choppy all of a sudden last night, and I checked to find almost 9 out of 10 GB used up, where it had started at around 2.

I did notice something this morning though - it went up to over 8 GB used, and then I switched it to windowed fullscreen from fullscreen, and the usage dropped back down to 5, at least. But then I shut it down, just to be on the safe side.

I didn't realize the two different screen formats would make such a large difference. ?

As his roommate I just play the game normally on windowed fullscreen and memory starts around 1 GB and goes up at around 150-300 kB/s till well around this wwgrqe.jpg and around that time it also crashed.

I have found that while a few things like rambooster and cleanmem allow me to play a bit, they really can't stop the leak from winning. So. It's really a matter of waiting now, alas. Hopefully those things will allow me to run a simple tavern RP event tonight though >_<

Whining annoyes me, who doesn't understand that there are issues with any game, especially with such a complex and young one has a problem over his neck I think. Especially that they are indeed fixing things. But whining is so easy compared to writing a detailed ticket...

However constructive criticism and targeting the developers' attention towards problems is a good thing.

That being said, I really hope there will be some fix soon for this memory leak, it would be a pity not being able to play this weekend. :)

To those saying give Zenimax a break you have lost your minds. Its not a SMALL memory leak its HUGE. Immediately noticeable to any kind of playtesting. Not to mention the shoddy coding they must be doing to introduce a leak that bad. Most memory leaks are MUCH MUCH more subtle. This is game crippling.

I have fixed my usingcleanmem I can play qithout crashes and my system runs smooth after I shutdown the game.

This bug has two of my friends having to restart their entire clients from scratch every 40 minutes, on top of getting "fabulous" purple shapes for npc's, mobs, and scenery. He has the same set up as me with regards to Add-ons and graphics yet I don't get the issue as bad. My maximum usage has always been around 3.6GB which isn't too out of the ordinary.

However the Lag is causing my client to completely crash out from time to time and I hope its fixed when the above gets fixed.
