Low-Level Armors' Color-Schemes "Nerfed" by Craglorn Update

This makes me sad. I too had just crafted a pretty blue robe set on my Altmer mage pre-patch. I haven't been able to log back in since last night (got to log in for a short while after the patch, have been locked out ever since to to "login timeouts" and have received the response "try again in ten minutes" [as if I haven't been doing SINCE YESTERDAY]) and haven't seen this update yet. The character I logged into already had brown-looking armor (leather armor) so I didn't think anything of it. Now I know when I log in next my nice robes will be back to...*sigh* That's a real bummer. And a seemingly pointless one, as well. And I'm also unnerved because I've no idea how much my toons will have changed since I've seen threads about changed faces/hair/etc.

I keep reading, "Level up", "It was intended", "Lower level armor is not supposed to look good", and so on.

Here is the rub. Split your paying customers into two groups. Those above 50 and those below. You have more lower levels than higher I would think, though this is a guess. Even if it were the other way around, there are numbers enough to warrant not pissing off the paying customers.

Since I began playing I have stated that the colors of lower level armors are so limited and stifling that there needed to be a change. It was not just the colors, but the total lack of texture, depth and pallet. Washed out colors.

Anyone who takes a look back into history and looks at the armors and clothes of the past one will see color. Reds, blues, greens, yellows, browns, purples, blacks and so forth. Some countries specialized in cloth such as China, India and the middle east. Japanese warriors wore bright ribbons, Native Islanders wore amazing colors and shells, feathers, paints. Leather is tanned and was dark and heavy with fur trims for winter. Metal was thick and often polished, crescents on the chest and shoulder protectors, dented, heavy. Cloth was an array of colors, fiber counts in thickness depended on the quality type of cloth used, but even the poorest fibers were dyed bright reds, yellows, blues etc.

What ESO has done is enforce a utter dislike for what you wear to encourage you to level. Making your customers dislike their character from levels 10-50 is not a great move and does nothing to inspire to level. Sure they will keep leveling but will always be reminded they accomplished nothing of worth no matter which quests they conquer, what achievements they gained, what Boss they beat or which King or Queen they saved.

You will look like a tramp until we deem your actions worthy of looking good. I would think that a little splash of color without all the trimmings would be a fair trade for paying to play and that making your customers happy was your, what is you say when we petition all the time, oh yes, our passion.

Best add this in before I get beaten with a club. Dyes are not the solution. Dyes should have been to change the color of your outfit, not fix it.

I don't know about ESO having a motive of "forcing" us to level up, but I will agree- my lvl 42 Vampire's Kiss armor that I just made is now pretty horrid to look at. Before the patch, it wasn't the most beautiful thing ever, but it was a nice sage-greenish color with gold straps, and I was happy with it.

Now it is the most mind-numbing beige color - like the color of cubicle walls, with darker brown straps. Kinda like the color of this forum website actually.

I was a bit excited to see in the patch notes that they were making adjustments to vet armor, but I had no idea it would come with the trade-off of making non vet armor look like stale bread. I'm not going to quit the game over it, but it is definitely a significant disappointment, and it seems like a pointless change.

There is just no way to satisfy you people. First everyone was complaining about how ugly VR armor was and how better low level gear looked compared to it. ZoS listens and fixes it. People complain even more. Just stay put for a while all this armor color thing will be trivialized once the dyes come out.

And for the issues, I wouldn't know about them since I have yet to experience anything, matter of fact my game is running smoother than before even with higher settings than pre-patch.

    Troll level +2

    Fail level +VR13

I'm not trolling, I know most people are experiencing issues, I have not that's why I said they are outside my experience. Why is that trolling?

Most of the armor looks pretty gaudy to me regardless right now, and it did before, too.

Im not a fan of overly ornate "parade" sets, that which youd wear for fashion over function. And Im *definitely* not a fan of some racial styles.

That said, when my lvl 32 cloth looked better than my vr1 set there was a problem.

Said vr set went from baby poo brown to mostly navy blue(bosmer brigandine, green quality).

Of all of the issues with this patch the cosmetic armor nerf is the most peculiar and the one that will cost ESO the most customers.

    Very, very strange call.

It's a bit odd. I like to have alts, and one thing I noticed was that my lvl 15 sorc wearing lvl 14 robes went from her robes being black with a beige trim, to looking identical to lvl 1 robes. I am not sure how lvl 14 robes looking identical to lvl 1 robe is in any way an improvement.

Just noticed this thread. I can't play the game atm due to the memory leak issues causing major crashes but when I logged in after the patch I noticed that my low level chars now look like tramps.
I don't mind this so much with the armours you can pick up from mobs but my sorceress had a nice set made up in one of the zone "secret" workshops. It was black and copper with a metallic sheen, now it's a dull olive drab.

There are some situations where that would not be a bad thing, however ESO is not one of thoes :D

And you know why; the bugs and glitches are to be expected in a new game. Although some of the nerfing and buffing that ZoS implement might be 'off', but again, the game is new and that can be solved in due course. However, making low level armours so wholly unattractive and plain dour was done on purpose and for the unsustainable rationale 'low level armours must look terrible".

I like to level slowly and with a bunch of characters. Everyone of them now looks like a tramp and although I can put up with losing my gold for two weeks, having to re-do quests, not being able to complete quests, random dc's, lags spikes, competing with bots, spending hours at a time shunting mats from alt to alt in an attempt to squeeze things into insufficient space - this and more I contend with in ESO and continued to do so. However, ZoS clearly do not want my type of player - the current new content released is for Vet only. I don't mind that either, but what I do mind is being treated as a second class citizen by ZoS simply because I chose to level slowly and therefore must run around in rags. Enough is enough.

ZoS Ambassadors please do not bother responding to me because I have you on ignore. Your input is neither valued or welcomed.

I already gave you an "awesome" for that post, but I just had to say it in person too. I have several characters up to level 20, I enjoy trying out different characters. I am also a completionist and the thing that has really disappointed me about the latest content (besides my level 14 robe looking the exact same as the level 1 robe) is the "oh we wanted to push out veteran content to the 5% of players that have reached that level, yeah it broke everyone's achievements and we knew that from the PTS group, but we put it out anyway and it'll take at least a couple of weeks to fix".

Now I don't mind what content is put out, but I am paying the same sub as anyone else, and would prefer the things I like about the game not to be broken in the rush to get out new content to a small minority of players.

From what I've seen, the disguises on my chars still look ok (I use them to dress up my hireling alts).

Also, I'd like to thank all the witty posters who gave me a good laugh.

Opinions are like buttholes : Everybody has one, and they usually stink.

    3 things to reduce stamina/magicka imbalance :
    - Use magicka to block abilities costing magicka, instead of stamina.
    - Add % damage reduction to heavy armor.
    - Add block penetration to 2H.

@Epona222 I returned the compliment with an 'awesome' for your post too; we pay the same sub and yet our contribution appears to be judged as being of less value. I am not a completionist, and I had not considered the effect of this patch on people who enjoy that aspect. So yes, not only are we second class citizens, but I find now that an element that you value has been broken to satisfy ZoS' belief that they must release this patch regardless of bugs and negative impact.

    To be short - disappointing.
I have all my chars dressed in my own crafted armors, which I chose among all those racial styles to suit my needs.
I was allways looking forward to be able to craft gear from higher level ore and it was allways visualy rewarding.
Now, when I got brown rug from purely shiny black lvl 30 armor, I'm afraid what disaster will await me when I'm able to craft dwemer ore.
Do you realy think this is the way crafters should be rewarded for their effort?

@Asasinka Do you not understand that you are not veteran level and thus do not deserve to wear anything but the brown rug you mention - irrespective of whether you have crafted it or not?

Uh huh - zero reward for people that level their crafts so they can make their own. One guy posted that he had made a complete upgraded set prior to the patch and it went overnight from something reasonably smart to - effectively the brown rug.

I can't believe there is not a stronger backlash. They literally just made a whole bunch of items ugly for the sake of making other items appear more compelling in contrast. Just think for a moment what that means - if they are willing to do that, what is to stop them from doing it again, making something you really like the look of suddenly look like crap at any point in the future?

@Mephane There have been several posts, most of which have had Veterans attempting to shout down any complaint about this. Why it bothers people that others simply don't want to walk around like tramps for the majority of the low levels is beyond me. I agree with you, wholeheartedly.

I don't know, my VR2 gear looks pretty slick right now.

Just play the game, leveling is extremely fast at low levels. The time spent on this thread is more time than it would take to gain a few levels and get new gear for yourself.

your gear looks pretty slick because you are VR.
and not everyone wants to rush and level up fast to hit VR, or that's what I think anyway.

has anybody tried to contact zeni about this?

    This is really dissapointing.

Why do we even try to achieve something for dozens of hours, get it, be happy with it and then ZOS just takes it away from us? That's a slap in the face of paying customers.

All of my characters' gear has been changed, most to the worse. :\

My mage's really beautiful green robe is now an ugly grey...

And it's not only the color that got changed.

I reported the armor-changes as a bug ingame.

Maybe everyone who hates these changes should do that too, the more people report this as a bug the more likely they might change it back.

I bet only a fraction of the people here have even crafted any VR gear. I levelled from 1 - VR10, i crafted a full set of heavy armour for pretty much every material tier. They all looked the same. When i hit VR10 i made a set of Epic set piece armour. It looked identical, and similar in colour to my L30 armour.

The colours were broken. They fixed them. Stop crying about your L14 characters that took 2 hours to level. Stop talking about 'rewarding' crafters, when levelling gear crafts takes no effort whatsoever.

You sound like children. Go level, then make cool VR gear. Like the game was intended to be.

My meager knowledge of English is not enough to describe the extent of my confusion due to unexplainable actions of ZOS. What they did with a visual variety of apparel is just killing both game designers and players work. My main character is still level 28 and this is my style of leisurely gameplay when I want to feel and be rewarded from each stage and step in the progressing of my character and i don't have much time for gaming. I have alt crafter and spent a lot of time picking up different combinations of stuff for my main each 2 levels and I enjoyed it. All this is thrown into the trash can by ZOS with the latest patch. In all this brown tattered rags with green swamp slime on it, I feel like I was robbed and just escaped from Coldharbour again. My 3 month subscription most probably will not be renewed.

Only because you are a power leveller doesn't mean everyone can level this fast. It took me about 40 hours to get to L14.
I don't know if I will ever see a VR, so I should be able to have some good looking stuff earlier too.
