Why not if it not causes big problems. But I think because of it the map isn't in game. Also you have a lot of Map AddOns. So, if ZOS add this map - ok, if not - not a problem and still ok.

I think not just a minimap, but a map in general seriously detracts from the game experience. With a map, you never get lost. The game seems much smaller. It draws your attention away from the landscape, always whispering 'Look at me! It's easier!' into your ear.

I remember how big the DAoC landmass seemed when i was playing it. How full of wonder it was. No radar, no compass, no points of interest, no map, period. Every corner could hide something. I was exploring.

I am probably alone with this view. Simpler, easier, faster seems to be the motto of today.

We need the developers to focus on fixing bugs and making the existing UI not suck, not adding new features to it. Also, I like the fact that the game requires you to focus on the world view and not the map view. Spatial awareness adds to the experience, and the world is beautifully rendered and deserves to be looked at.

Certainly bring it back for those who want it. I would switch it off for sure. Never understand why people want unnecessary clutter on screen though.

My UI dont suck. ZOS gave us a great opportunity to create our own addons. What could be better?
...Also, I like the fact that the game requires you to focus on the world view and not the map view. ...
Focus on the map. Really, minimap won't make big difference. It's not so hard to open the map and look where are you and where are you going to go.

Don't add in. It makes the world smaller and destroys immersion.

At this time I see the addon authors doing a better job. Have you seen the size of that code? It just keeps growing. If anything ZOS should redouble their efforts to support the addon managers.

Also radar map, but I don't use that.

Perhaps ZOS should add a map in but still they will need to work with the addon authors. There is a lot about the UI that is horribad, they messed up with making minamalist UI that is actually functional and full of the info we need.

I just prefer to find my own way and get the bearings of my surroundings by myself, instead of seeing a top-down view instantly.
It's much more immersive, at times, I even use an addon to hide the compass. It's a game where it's fun to explore. I wish some maps with unexplored areas were even blurred out

The problem is with addons is they frequently get abandoned, case in point RMM which I currently use.. it still works for now, but once the API evolves I doubt it will. Plus an integrated mini map isn't a cobbled together squash down the full size map affair.. and wouldn't likely have the performance hit people complain about with the addon maps.

All the people voting no are saying things like it makes the world feel smaller and destroys immersion... umm it would be turn offable, so what is the problem? You don't have to use it.

I don't care about turning on or off. I suck at directions!
    I need a map.
Minimaps were my very first addon.
I hate when addons get abandoned (though of course I can understand all the reasons why and that's ok)

ZOS has bigger fish to fry (bugs, more content, etc) and I do not want it to clutter up my UI. There are areas that it might give people an unfair advantage also. TBH. I rather not even have it in addon form. I do not want to feel "forced" to use the mini map either.

If they have time and resources to do it, I don't see why not.

Adding an optional minimap would change absolutely nothing for people who like immersive exploration - just don't turn it on and the game is exactly as it was before. Unless you have no self control whatsoever and knowing that the feature is there, you just can't resist using it... in which case whose fault is it, yours or the game's?

right, that is definitely the litmus test by which we should judge a valuable player from one who does not help the game.

What is a "standard MMO?" ~looks around and just sees WoW-clones~
Do we really want to turn ESO into a WoW-clone to make it "standard?"

"Standard MMO" and "WoW-clone" means the something.

So no AH, no lore breaking pink rabbits mounts, no flying mounts, no mini map.

Given that there is already an addon that does this and the game has far more things that need fixing/balancing etc. ahead of something that is available to those that want it.

We can get a minimap thanks to the awesome addons.

Those guys do a far better job than the actual devs , which is quite amazing considering they are not even paid for it.

its not a new feature it is already there, it was in beta already functioning perfect they just removed it, so they don't need to do anything apart from put it back with a option to turn it on and off.
