Race change.

its been asked for many times. many of these threads exist. I tried to just post on one of the older ones but its not bumping it. So I have to create a new one.

I would love to change the class on my templar from high elf to imperial. main reason is magicka is awful in pvp now so to be competitive I've switched to stamina.

I wouldn't mind spending $20 for this change to occur. DO YOU SEE THAT ZOS!? MONEY! Thats what this whole game is about isn't it? why not make some extra money?

Or another solution would be to let people who purchased the imperial edition to change their class to imperial like they can with their armor.

I really hope to see either of these come really soon

I believe they recently said they were planning to tweak racial buffs.

The problem with a race change in this game seems to me to be that you'd need a full cosmetic and skill change too because the skills are baked in. Unless your character look/style means nothing more to you than a set of numbers that would be problematic.

The group that would actually--and unbelievably--pay 20 dollars for it is so miniscule that it wouldn't be implemented.

And I'm actually against race change.

    lol no.

On PC I'm sure a large percentage of the playerbase has a high level character they'd be happy to pay to reroll the character creation choices on after all the mechanical changes to the game over the last year.

On console the playerbase doesn't yet have the time invested in their characters or fully comprehend the ramifications of racial choices at end game, so there isn't a market yet on console other than transfers.

Once that market materializes I'm sure race change will too.

I wouldn't be likely to ever use it, but I also wouldn't mind seeing it for those people who really, really want to retcon their characters... and yeah, there are quite a few of them who spend months building up a character, and want to keep all that effort instead of just starting over, yet are dissatisfied with their current race...

It is true that any such change would likely best go hand in hand with a full character recustomization option, which for the record is something I really, Really, REALLY want...

Wouldn't even be so hard to do. Just revisit the chargen screen, have a crown cost for every slider moved, a huge crown cost for selecting a different race, an "reset to current" button, and a "pay final cost to make it so" button, let people play with all until they are satisfied, then pay and go on playing ESO with less crowns but a smile on their face every time they look at their redone character...

...and if any really want to change their race every time the PTB twiddle with the racial stats... go on, let them, not like I care if they throw money at zenimax, more profit for them means more content for all of us I guess...

Nah, we read it. Its just sometimes anrgy nords can't help getting a lil bit sarcastic ranting against something after twoscore or more threads asking for it... ;)
Read between the sarcasm, respect his opinion, ignore it if you disagree, move on.

Personally, I would prefer for race change to never be available at all. But I can live with a race change that is serverely limited.
    Vatter wrote: »

^And that reason is why. I do not want to see race being added to the changeable criteria for fotm builds. Or, at the very least, I would expect some severe limitations on to how often a race change is permitted (like two times a year).

(Now a bit off topic but I don't see racials as that big of a deal. They were designed to be small 'umphs' to your character, not major buffs. Racials should hardly be a reason to change the race of your character.)

Money is all fine and good, but only in moderation (like everything else). ZOS is business, and despite the obvious goal of making money, they should also be kept up to certain standards as a business. One of them is obviously to not cheapen the game with gimmicks because "more money". I'm sure you don't want see something as ridiculous as flying dragon mounts just because of a money initiative do you? But I digress, race change is one of those debatable features that should or should not come to the crown store.

But I maintain the stance that allowing players to pay real cash for in game advantages, however slight (like 'better' racial passives for "staying competitive") is easily P2W if there is no in-game method for achieving the same result.

What logical reason could you have to be against players being able to make their own choices with their own money? How does a player spending $20 to change his race instead of suffering through the terrible process of grinding a new veteran 14 character in any way affect you?

    It doesn't.

Give us actual arguments why they shouldn't, as opposed to spouting off "NO" a bunch of times with no logical explanation as to why you disagree.

we get enough characters to try every class twice and to be almost every race, and if you decide you don't like a certain combo....
delete the character and start over!

I disagree with playing all the way to end game, and THEN wanting a change because a Magicka build requires more strategy.

& the character you chose to play also effected the way you played the game, even if you never added any points to racial passives.

ALSO, we're all in an alliance, so unless you have the Imperial Edition or Adventurer's Pack any race change would be restricted to the other TWO in your alliance.

It seems like a lot of work to implement something mostly useless.

    So much troll hatred

Race change will come, it will be expensive and it will be used by many those who try to say otherwise are in denial.

The fact that they can make money from this will be a huge benefit to the game, and those who don't want this know how much of an advantage they have over others by being the right race for the spec.

So keep trolling haters it's only a matter of time till the crown store shows you how much this company want cash.

Actually I don't think it'll be race change per se but racial passive change. In the next major update they plan to address the beast races and nord (woo orc love). Then afterwards in the crown store we would be able to pick and choose the passive pack. So an atlmer can have the imperial racial passives and so forth. I believe that's where the change discussion was heading.

ZoS going to make a killing, the moment race change is put on the shop.

However I would rather have my Khajiit passives back, as they were up to EA before release nerf.

At least the old Carnage melee damage. It will even the field against Imperials and Redguards on STA builds.
Even if the two later ones will still have an edge.

I'd actually go for this. I've been through some MMO's that had it and I ended up utilizing it as I met new people who happened to be on other alliances I couldn't play with. As I saw someone post in another thread on these forums earlier stay in school and money won't be the problem.

There actually is an in game option for this. Start over with the race you want. So its not really a p2w action. So what you are really doing is paying for the easy way out of an path that already exists.

Wow, you are woefully misinformed. The number of people who would gladly pay $20 for a race change is probably bigger than the number of current ESO+ subscribers... and by a large margin. Thanks to all the ridiculous nerfs and "rebalances" over the last year, tons of folks have had their builds destroyed on a whim. Racial passives have been a sore point for months, especially after the 1.6 update that removed soft caps.

Having said that, I think $20 is too much. $15 would be a lot better because it could be covered by the Crown points from a single month of ESO+.

I heard this rumor, and I don't like it. Passives should match the race. Just sell us the race change and be done with it.

If this happens, I seriously hope Todd Howard sends Matt Firor a cease and desist order the very second it goes live in the crown store. Way to *** on your own lore :-(

We talked about this a bit in last Friday's ESO Live, during our Ask Us Anything segment (around the 45:45 mark.) We are planning some small tweaks to racial passives in our next major update (with Imperial City.) After that, we'll reevaluate. Long-term we may consider putting race changes in the Crown Store.
