Much Lower Volume while not Facing NPC's

I haven't changed anything about my setup (not even drivers) in the last 3 months or so and I recently noticed that the volume of a talking NPC's voice drops immensely when you turn away (both 1st and 3rd person) putting 192000Hz & 24bits helped with this somewhat, but the issue is still there. Was this always the case or has anyone else noticed a change?

✭✭✭✭✭Depends on your sound setting, I use surround sound from 5 speakers (3 frontal, 2 rear) so depending on where I am positioned in proximity of the NPCs changes which speaker the sound comes out and the volume on how near or away I am to them. It's neat if I'm in the middle of a bunch of them having a conversation as each NPC come out a different speaker.0 -

I'm well aware of such setups and how they work, however -- I'm currently (and have been for years) using a stereo setup and this is the first time I notice this behavior, so I thought that maybe they changed something with the recent patches, the difference was really big. Even with a stereo setup in ESO -- a small decrease in volume happens, to emulate surround sound, as much as possible, but this time around I'm talking like 70% decrease in volume, that isn't normal. ✭✭✭✭✭I've noticed the same thing but it seems like it's been ongoing for more than a month or so. I actually like it. When I start to hear a conversation I've heard 1000 times before, I can turn away from it and it almost is gone.
