Sorry for the delay, everyone. This fix is still being tested, but we'll let you know as soon as we have an update for when this will be rolled out.

I'm sure it has something to do with either the weapon-slot caching or armor textures - and I'm leaning heavily towards the former.

It is possible, but some people below level 15 were seeing this problem and they would not be using weapon swapping.

Now, it could be something everyone does, but weapon swapping just does it more.

Haven't been experiencing nasty lag, per se - but definitely crashing a LOT more than usual in Cyrodiil. Everyone in my group crashes at least 4-5 times in a 4-6 hour session, with no notable event. Can happen at anytime for no apparent reason.

It happens for the reason listed in the title of the post, memory leak. As soon as you get around 3.5gb mem .....crash incoming. You can monitor and avoid it by logging out and back in around 3gb mem.

This needs to be Priority #1 fix.

@LunaRae, yes to the crashing. Repairs don't find anything.

@Webbull, not automatically the cause of the crash. I'm running 16Gb on the system, so while it's not ideal, it's not going to take my system or the process down at 3.5 Gb.

Honestly that would probably result in a better end product at the rate they have been going. We are basically paying to play beta as it is. Thank you FFXIV for making it ok to do this...

I'd assume that they will put it in when they do the regular maintenance later this week, at the latest.

Some people just don't seem to grasp the concept that a 32-bit piece of software cannot access more than around 3.7GB of RAM. They just keep thinking that since they have 64GB of RAM on their system, all is right with the world and their game can just use up to a seemingly infinite amount.

Now, if we had a 64-bit client, that would be an entirely different story.

I'm sure it has something to do with either the weapon-slot caching or armor textures - and I'm leaning heavily towards the former. My RAM usage shot up to 95% when I was rapidly switching weapon sets in a fight. The program is probably storing unneeded data every time you swap until it has twenty copies of "this guy has a sword in weapon slot one!"

I hope the programming guys don't have too much trouble fixing it. I'd really like to play ESO. :C

I'm pretty sure it has to do with the latter.

I concur, since I experience the frequent crashes even when playing my level 8 character, who obviously cannot weapon swap.

Good news! We'll be hotfixing this tomorrow morning at 11:00AM EDT. Once the hotfix is complete, you'll just need to restart your game client and download the latest patch. Thanks again for your patience while we hammered on this one.

    @ZOS_GinaBruno

Awesome! This is really good news.

Can you give us any details as to what was actually causing the memory leak? Many of us are very curious about it, not to be critical or anything, but because it feels like a perplexing mystery. :P

Sigh, takes about 2 to 3 hours for the eso.exe to get around 3.5 GB of memory. It starts to stutter and lag right before the client crashes.

Have set a timer for 60 mins to check how much it has built up / check how big it has gotten / then reset timer for another 60 mins... to so I can try and get relogged in before it crashes. Been mostly sticking to towns (Shornhelm currently) ... no weapon swapping ... just running around gathering stuff. Was so involved in looking around town that I forgot to set timer/check how close to 3.5 GB it was getting ... it crashed at 3.6 GB of memory.

For me this has been happening since 1.34 update.. before that I could play a solid 5 to 8 hours or more, only logging out to eat and watch MKR....

Hopefully they get this sorted soon...

Edit: cool ... hope this hotfix they are implementing in the morning fixes this.

yep ... saw that about the hotfix after I posted ... hence the edit on my post. Like I said "I" have only had the problem since 1.3.4 update... I am not saying that the problem wasn't there in 1.3.3 just that I, personally, did not experience any crashing with 1.3.3...

I doubt the weapon swap. I don't generally swap weapons, (heck, I didn't swap weapons a single time last night) and I was in the first half of stonefall (lvl 10ish), so odds are there weren't many people around me able to swap weapons either.

So unless there were a bunch of high levels running around town swapping weapons (unlikely) it's doubtful it has to do with weapon swapping.

Partial speculations or subjective experiences should not be asserted in thread titles as "factual."

    Memory leak, yes.

Lag in PvP, no. Still you say, yes? No. Turn your graphics down, stop trying to have your cake and eat it, too.

    1) Lag and FPS issues are two very different things - only one of them affected by you video settings
    2) curiously enough, the fps issues which are occuring whenever a large number of players are fighting in the vincinity - are also not really affected by my video settings. Going from "high" to "low" video settings changes my "idle" (= no large fight in the vincinity) fps from ~55 to ~90.
At the same time, my fps near a large fight change from ~15 to ~15...

so nope, not a case of "wanting to keep my cake while eating it"...

Please do not act as if this problem came with 1.3.3 or 1.3.4. The memory leak issue has been a strong problem since the templar love patch back to june (1.2/1.3).
I'm having this issue in every larger fight and not only at peak times in PvP, not matter if it's a high-pop or not. Memory error windows or instant crashes all the time, all day long and no matter if windows mode or not, if the client stays open or not, actual video card drivers + up to date computer system (gtx660ti@i533330&windows8)

    Lag

@Morvul I think we should report back after testing out the patch (I've been getting the lag too). Depending on the origin of the memory leak it may have been the same underlying issue.
