Is there a possibility to "overwrite" the style of your armor?

Hello everyone!

I wanted to ask if there's a possibility to overwrite the style of your armor with another armor style.

For example, if you have a Khajit-styled Chestplate, you could use some materials to overwrite it with the breton style, if you have unlocked it.

And if this is not in game, what would you guys think about such a feature?

Greetings

    You can wear a costume.

(well thats not what you were asking but that's the closest answer, save for the imperial ability to convert to imperial style)

Well, those who bought the imperial edition can do this, but they can just
cosmetically change the style to imperial style only. No other styles possible.

From what I know, if you have the Imperial edition, you can change an armor to the imperial style through the right click menu. Other than that, no other way exists currently.

Yeah I bought the Imperial Edition, that's why I wanted to ask if it's possible to change to other styles too. Apparently not. I'd love to see this feature ingame, since we're getting the color adjustment for our gear, why not beeing able to change the appearance too?

TBH I guess it depends on how you think it should work.

At the moment if you convert something to the Imperial style it becomes bound to you. So resale for use is zero, though someone could still learn a trait from it.

Well, I wouldn't mind it beeing soulbound to you. Of course, if it wouldn't be soulbound, people would be selling daedric-styled armor for alot of gold.

Would be great if there was an additional option for each crafting table, making you able to select your armor you want to change and then the style you want to change it to. The material of the current armor would be needed to do this.

IMO that would be a very great feature.

But people sell Daedric for a pile anyway.

I wouldn't want to see a system that gets around the need for a motif, otherwise what's the point of motifs if you can craft in your default style and then convert to daedric..

Hopefully one day we will be able to convert equipment we are wearing into a disguise or something similar to place in that disguise slot.
So we could create an outfit we like the look of, covert it to a disguise then slot it for that appearance.

Of course, you would have to already know the style you want to convert your armor to. Wouldn't make any sense otherwhise.

From a 'neat' standpoint I can see where this idea has merit. However from a realistic (Yea I know it is a fantasy game and realistic should never be mentioned) standpoint I don't like it. When creating something the Mats have to be shaped, cut and bound into form to match a certain style, to then try and change that style would require more work then actually creating the original piece.

Even though I bought the IE I don't convert any of my armor, it just feels jinky.

In GW2 you could morph the skin of one item onto another item. You had to have the correct amount of conversion stones for the conversion. The cost was that the original item was destroyed in the conversion.

I'd like to see something like that in-game, where I could keep the look of an armor or weapon I like, but have the stats of an armor or weapon I don't like the look of. And sure it goes without saying that you'd have to already have the motif of the skin you want to morph into.

We're not talking about dropped items, are we? I'm not sure of the impact of changing those, from a satisfaction point of view. It would mean that we could decide what our payment received would be, rather than getting a loot/reward.

Personal opinion on recrafting a style we had originally made is that converting would be less necessary or desired if crafters could see what the crafted item would look like BEFORE they crafted it.

It's just a whole lot less satisfying to craft armour and then see what you got afterwards, when it's usually a surprise result visually.
The problem with society these days is that no one drinks from the skulls of their enemies anymore.

I have been asking for this from the first day I started playing. IMO it is one of the glaring oversights in crafting.

Thanks! I've given it a little thought, and I think, various things considered, this might be one of the simplest things (code/mechanics-wise) development could add to the game with regard to this line of things. Basically because much of the systems are already in place, or at lest will be soon enough (re dyeing).

I would like to see it as a new function on crafting tabels.

You must have learned the motif you want to convert to.
You must have the skin giving item (f.e. deadric heart for the deadric skin)
And you must have enough skillpoints in the crafting tree so you could craft items with this level.

Would be so easy and fair...

It would also be nice if the disguise costumes were visible on the character screen. Just a little thing but would make a difference imo, and while I'm talking about the character screen we should be able to change the order of our characters.
