IF they are to ever achieve balance in this game, ZOS just has to give up the idea that EVERY class skill has to use (and scale with) magicka and spell power. THAT THING ALONE dooms most builds.

You can still make them USE magicka (as they are technically spells, at least partially), but make them scale off something USEFUL.

Shining examples are like half of NB's and Templar's abilities:
    - Teleport Strike - sure, you teleport to the target, but that's where magic ends. Cutting the target down like a butcher is a job for your WEAPON (damage) and STAMINA.
    - Death Stroke - slashing and enemy... thankfully it consumes ultimate, but still scales with wrong stats
    - Veiled Strike - here not even the magicka cost makes sense, because it's just shoving a *** dagger into someone's back..

    - Whole Templar's Aedric Spear line - the whole magic part is conjuring up the spear(s). The rest should be scaling with your physical prowess

Well TSW (The Secret World) did it and not everyone was running around with same build. Sure in the first few months they had to adjust how some of the abilities and passives synergized a little too well. You didn't even have to do quest to unlock skills (Until they added the Auxiliary Weapons, you had to do quest to unlock these). You just had to have AP (Ability points) and just like ability/weapon levels in ESO you had to have so many AP spent in that line to unlock passive/active abilities. Then there are no real levels in TSW either.

Not exactly on topic, but, regarding the Title of this thread:
"This is going to sound crazy, so please hear me out"

"This is going to sound crazy, but please hear me out" would have been a much more appropriate title.

Using "so" implies that, since it sounds crazy, we should listen, rather than despite it sounding crazy.

    Thank you. Carry on.

I definitely agree... This game currently has the most atrocious balance I've seen in a game that has released.

    1. Add in the standard Elder Scrolls skill/weapon lines like Restoration, Destruction, Alteration, Illusion, Sneak/backstab, Conjuration, etc.

    2. Move the current class and guild skills to the appropriate skill or weapon lines.

    3. Flesh out the weapon lines so that each has has an ultimate and is on par with magicka based skill lines.

    4. Balance the skill lines so that there are powerful unique abilities at the end of the skill tree.

A dps spell, be it class specific, or weapon skill should do VERY similar dps. Class skills should not be better or worse, but different. I don't get the idea that some skills should be stronger or weaker just because. If you are doing that, why even have the weaker spells, because noone will waste one of their few slots for it.

If a spell has an added effect, such as stun, it should do lower dps than a dps spell that has no effect(except maybe crystal fragments, because it has a cast time).

It seems like the whole system was done randomly without any thought of balance.

I think class skills should be the weakest skills in the game at the start of the game. I think class skills should be like a starter kit for your character, so he/she can survive long enough to make it into the world to get better skills you can earn by adventuring.

They already implemented your idea. We're called Templars.

This has to be one of the best new ideas I've heard on these forums these many months.

Adds new quests with meaningful enchancements, balances out the skill lines completely for everyone, and might very well make everything post-50 a ton of fun.

    I'll take two.

Edit: Oh. And I'm gonna borrow this. It sums it all up nicely. If that's all right.
I think the fear of cookie cutter players is one of the things that set this game back from truly playing the way you want to play.

I wonder what would happen if they took armor type out of the damage equation almost entirely and made all abilities based far more heavily on Stam/Health/Mag totals (respectively for melee, tanking (mitigation), spell damage.

In a sense you'd be normalizing all skill trees and allowing any build to perform as well as another which would irritate the number crunchers but hypothetically it could put a far heavier emphasis on skilled play if enough depth could be added to omit singularly useful rotations.

.It is not impossible for thousands of people to test skills and come up with the five best ones.

The game has been out for months now. People can't even agree on which class is more powerful.

Can you tell me which 5 powers are the most powerful combination? how about the top 10 or 20?

Would someone be able to make a list to beat that list?

The way ESO is set up, I don't think it is possible to have a top five pick for the best way to play. The mere fact that there are so many attack skills and so many counter skills and utility skills, and so many buffing skills, it would be impossible to list the absolute best 5 skills to use at all times.
Those (skills) would still be the required ones for dungeons because people are jerks.

I disagree with this premise completely.

Right now, you can not see people's DPS and it should stay that way.

There will be so many combinations, it will be nearly impossible to judge what another person is using in combat.

Another alternative to the current class system. I pressed "Agree".
Whatever works, I just don't want to know, that there is no way I can't, let's say, have aoe cc if I picked NB, but sorcs and dks have it.

It's a TES game after all, I want to be able to try everything in principle. With just one character.
