If I am meant to play this game as a single player RPG, what exactly is the monthly fee for? That's a question many people asked themselves, especially those that were taking the suggested approach and haven't got an answer to it.

While this certainly is a correct assumption and probably is the best way to play ESO, there's no longevity to it. Play the game once and be done with it. Because questing content is entertaining only for so much, even when nicely written. We could see that when people hit VR. Ok, it's gonna take a little while longer, but eventually you'll beat the game or even worse - get bored of it.

Currently, they are doing their best to make sure it is the only viable way to get to cap. Single player questing. Dungeon XP are still so low, rendering it ineffective to level in small group content, same with PvP. Those could and should have been at least two alternate paths to the top, that were closed down and never revisited. Instead, they leave Zerg mob/event exploitative grinding in the game as the only alternative.

If the single player approach was meant to be the only viable way, then they shouldn't have released this game as a MMO, but rather standalone with optional co-op. Perhaps with sellable tickets to Cyrodiil, tho that could have worked on temp servers as well.

I can't find the right way. my first time on Auridon was full of cold sweat and rumbling heart. terrible, awful experience. buildings are almost as if taken from any random elves from other fantasies. animals? the most exotic ones are monkeys. what about 'Altmer' themselves? they are polluted with humanly feelings, as if they were sniffing MAN' thyroids and brains; crying, wailing, sickly caring. what is this? lorkhanic joke or cheap and low method to gain popularity? I do not know if I should even mention this ayrenn thing, it is a disaster, one of those cheap fable princesses who stand against proper values and behave like peasant hags. anti racist anti bigot, really? she should not have become queen in the first place. some golden dropout who led her life outside hallowed Alinor. there are even Altmer homosexuals! how did they pass after birth examination, why weren't they exiled. an Altmer who willingly does not contribute to positive birth rate? sacrilege.

game, story limits your choices. I haven't been able to assist in eugenics infanticide. there was no chance to torture khajiit and bosmer at the College of Aldmeri Propriety. Listening to this sub form of existence called raz is horrible. I want a proper Thalmor officer who will feed lesser races children with skooma, who will trade women and children for prostitution, who will order pogroms, lynching and wide spread massacres.

And what is with all these 'Altmer' who have human skin colour.

If not for the few haughty Altmer and combat system then this game would be unplayable for me. but even combat is far from ok: obligatory participation in 'classes' is against what I perceive as TES: freedom of gameplay. why I can't throw javelins, breathe fire or summon supernovas with my Sorcerer? I do not care if some people will join the rabble and start playing 'fotms'. I want to use abilities that I like, because of their visuals, overall feeling and theme.

for its age rating, I would expect much less whitewashing and watering down.

the best way to approach this game is to approach it with the stick. I do not wish this game bad, quite the opposite, but in my opinion many things must change before it becomes good.

It's impossible to play this like a proper TES game beacuse there is no sandbox stuff to do at all and hardly any exploration with dungeon crawling as just an afterthought.
If all you do in TES games is one quest after another that's great, but it's like half the game, they're exploration driven and go out of their way to distract you with caves, ruins bandit camps and new quests. This game is completely story driven and you haveto go out of your way to explore rather than it beeing a big part of the game.

While the quests are very TES like and mostly fun, most of the time the story line drags you by the hand across the zone in a predetermined path rather than send you all over the place for you to discover a bunch of distractions along the way that have nothing to do any quest what so ever.

I like this game, but it's only TES in name and lore.

This is exactly what I would be doing... IF the max level was 50, but since its Vr12 I have to get there to be able to effectively pvp and just for my satisfaction.

You cant play ESO like skyrim, in skyrim I skipped around the entire map.
In this game you can only skip around to a dozen quest nodes in the same zone.

Plus Aldmeri Dominion quest/lore is so boring that it made me want to rush through as quickly as humanly possible. I dident do it fast enough and lost all interest.

    See where this is headed.

The fundamental flaw in the arguments people are using to justify forced-group and other 'end-game' restrictions is that they think Craglorn is end-game: it's not, end-game doesn't start till the basic leveling process ends, NOT GEARING but LEVELING and clearly leveling hasn't ended yet as usual in MMOs from one expansion to the next, where the level cap is cast in stone right at the outset of that content.

Some great discussions have been recently had regarding ESO and its lack of openness, as this article articulates further:
When The A.V. Club reviewed Skyrim back in 2011, it wrote, "Where many games with lavish production values seek to direct players' imaginations, Skyrim seeks to ignite them."

I’m sorry to report that at almost every opportunity, The Elder Scrolls Online violates that principle. There are plenty of examples, but one really stands out: the game world is rigidly segmented.

All of The Elder Scrolls Online’s content is divided by level, so if you try to move on beyond the path the developers have laid down for you, and you'll quickly be killed. You must level up your character to proceed, and doing that necessitates sticking to a very clearly defined route through the world.

It's their imagination, not yours, and they won’t let you forget it.

Gone is the sense of exploration and freedom. Gone is the ability to wander to whatever corner of the world you want to tell your story. It’s bewildering to see that ZeniMax missed that mark so completely, especially given that there have been many MMOs over the years that were actually more like Skyrim or Oblivion than this one.

Why did ZeniMax draw inspiration from World of Warcraft– a game whose highly directed experience is counter to the emergent freedom of The Elder Scrolls – rather than Ultima Online, EVE Online, Meridian 59 and others that are more spiritually similar to what franchise fans know and love?

You should start reading dev posts on this stuff, they have some awesome plans.
Actually they're going to make the game into what it should have been at launch .. what we've been playing is an extended beta with subscriptions.

There's no other way to look at it when the developer of a game begins to work on revamping content that's only been available for two months.

Seriously, the kind of heavy-duty re-working they're talking about usually happens YEARS after an MMO's launch not MONTHS .. unless the game is in such trouble that it's a desperate effort to save it.

I don't want it to be like this, I paid 6 months to give ZOS time to fix the game, but to read they're already working on a massive re-working of much of the game even before most players have hit VR1 let alone VR12 is pretty stunning.

I repeat, that's what happens when beta tests show serious flaws in the core game: FFXVI V1 was an extreme example but is not entirely unrelated to ZOS it seems now.

I know it has "Elder Scrolls" in the title, but ESO is also an MMO. I'm trying to play it as an MMO.

I never finished a single ESO single player title before becoming bored...and I own them all lol. Not even Skyrim.

But I love MMOs and here I am trying to run some dungeons (which are terrific fun in ESO), and then discover I am getting no XP in them. MMO, right? Apparently not.

For some players (me), quests eventually become a snoozefest (the main quests, and the mage and fighters guild quests are wonderful). I love playing group content in MMOs, but refuse to mindlessly grind mobs for levels. And I love PvP'ing, but hate getting facerolled by full vets that typically grinded mobs to get there (my toons are all in their 20s still).

Thus, I find myself logging into Wildstar more than ESO, which is a shame. All it would take to get me back to ESO would be an XP quest for completing dungeons, or a buff to PvP xp. ESO has a lot of potential for MMOers, especially the PvP.

So, the solution to enjoying the game is to play an MMO as if it were a single player game? No. I don't think so. It is an MMO and it should be played like an MMO.

While, admittedly, some of the questing is very good, there is also a lot of boring filler quests that serve no purpose other than to take up your time, running around, so that you will pay your monthly fee. The questing is not nearly as good as some people in this thread try to make it out to be. Nowhere near on par with a single player game and, honestly, other MMO's have done a much better job making the questing more engaging and interesting.

Plus, the boring, mundane quests are much worse when you have to run through them multiple times because you play alts.

Unfortunately, that isn't what a lot of MMO players are looking for. A lot of people enjoy MMO's for the raids, and other large group content. Content that is restricted to the highest levels. It isn't our fault that it is restricted to the highest levels, Zenimax did that. They created the need to rush to the highest levels.

Also, many came to the game specifically for the PvP. And while you can participate in PvP at lower levels you cannot compete competitively until you are at the highest levels, so again, the need to rush.

Frankly, the problem, for many, is not the need to rush, but the deliberate hindrance built in to the leveling, in so many way. The game is deliberately made cumbersome in order to delay leveling, and keep people paying the monthly fee. That, however, is not the way to keep people playing.

For many, it is the endgame content that make MMO's worth playing. If there is no endgame, and only a sluggish leveling process to hide the fact that there is no end-game, then they are going to lose a large portion of their MMO players.

By the way, allowing players to play the other factions on a single character, great. Forcing them to play the other factions on each and every character, tremendously bad idea.

Yes, there is. The prize is not getting one-shotted in AvA. Forcing those of us who prefer to AvA to level up doing quests was a horrible decision on ZO's part.

These arguments are basic and childish. So what if someone decides to power level before you? Chooses to level by grinding, questing, pvping, doing dungeons and raids, etc.? How does this affect your game play? Stop worrying about what other people are doing. There are issues on all levels of the game, not just one facet or another.

This is the crap that is upsetting. This stuff should be an option in the game instead of having to search for all these addons, just to have the options most other MMOs offer normally.

They spent a ton of focus on the lore, meanwhile the pvp sucks and so does the pve simply because no one ever groups up to do anything because there is literally ZERO incentive, and the quests just aren't designed to be done by groups. They are AWFUL to do with groups, they don't make any sense and totally take you out of the immersion of the world.

That and no dungeon XP. Seriously? I mean, seriously....your game will go f2p and you deserve all of it for that incredibly asinine decision. It's like not only did these devs never create an mmo, but they never even played one.

And yea, pvp is only fun for the first few times you take a castle then it is really really boring. You need small group combat pvp, like 8v8, to break up the monotony.

You can't play this like an Elder Scrolls game. The quest structure is linear, and you are gated by level. There is a HUUUGGGGE difference between this and a real Elder Scrolls title. Besides "play how you want to play"TM
