Temp jobs. Customer service people. Unfortunately (sorry) the most replaceable people of any software company.
Realistically, all CS can be outsourced to highly trained, dirt cheap Indian call centers. Being a business owner, I would do the exact same.
Now, letting go of engineers, product people, inbound marketing folk - that is much more a sign of a downward spiral.

They were hired on 6 month contracts, trained for 1 week and let go two weeks later. That suggests the job they were hired to do vanished very suddenly. Probably CS for the postponed console launch and nothing to do with servers.

There is also some question about that, as in the article it says 6 weeks at one point and 6 months at another. Which is it? I agree that it is more than likely CS staff that were suddenly no longer needed.

Oh no, there aren't as many people paying to play the game as there were during the free month, and the developers have let some temporary staff go soon after launch. Some of them were let go just 2 weeks into a contract for, let me check the article, oh yes - 2 weeks.
Nothing new there. We get the same overblown stuff on forums with every MMO launch.
I voted dont care because if the story turns out to be true they will imediately lose my sub. What a disgraceful way to treat people !

It's like you people want the game to fail.
