After firing up to 300 workers in the EU, do you still think they will move the EU server?

    Don`t care.
Someone please explain to me how lay-offs in Galway, Ireland are related to, or impacting a server farm under construction in Frankfurt/Main, Germany.

I was tempted to post that link last night on the original thread for this, but was caught up with a dozen other things. Thanks for casting a small glimmer of fact to these proceedings.

Nothing to worry about here, the article doesn't even say WHICH project they were hired for, just that Zenimax has fired some temps. Of course you have people like Alex who know everything about Zenimax and how a large company with many different subsidiaries works, and, as it seems, has a direct line to their CEO because they always know EXACTLY what this means.

Basic circle of complaints on ESO Forums:
    1) Users: Fix game/class/bug
    2) Zenimax Online: Brings servers down and fixes issues and deploys patches.
    3) Users: OMG SERVERS ARE DOWN!!!!!
    4) Zenimax Online: Brings servers back up!

Hmm 200 of them were hired on two week contracts.Trained for 1 week worked for 2. Seems they completed the job they were hired to do.

They were hired on 6 month contracts, trained for 1 week and let go two weeks later. That suggests the job they were hired to do vanished very suddenly. Probably CS for the postponed console launch and nothing to do with servers.

The sky is falling the sky is falling everyone run for their lives ..... Why the big concern?

Can you still play the game?
Are you still having fun while playing the game?
Those are the real personal important questions you have to ask yourself. the rest is just forum fodder.

Temp jobs. Customer service people. Unfortunately (sorry) the most replaceable people of any software company.

Realistically, all CS can be outsourced to highly trained, dirt cheap Indian call centers. Being a business owner, I would do the exact same.

Now, letting go of engineers, product people, inbound marketing folk - that is much more a sign of a downward spiral.

Move along now folks, nothing else to see here.

People are totally speculating about why they let these people go. It could be the number of calls has dropped considerably, issues with temporary agency they contracted through, the temps were hired for consoles which are delayed until the holidays now, etc. Without any real knowledge of the business decisions behind this nobody on this forum knows enough to get upset. And sorry, even in the age of the internet, we aren't really entitled to know the reason for every business decision everybody makes.

There is also some question about that, as in the article it says 6 weeks at one point and 6 months at another. Which is it? I agree that it is more than likely CS staff that were suddenly no longer needed.

I love it, im still laughing.....absolutely appropriate.

Firing 300 employees, that's call preparation. We can't have a fully functional staff operating things are you crazy.

In seriousness, I don't know the details of who was let go, but I would suspect it was non essential devs who were a part of building the game up to launch and no longer needed to maintain it. This would also free up money to put into maintenance and R&D
And so did many brave men, women, and beast fall to the end of Beta, never to be heard from again. All that is left, is whispers of the adventures they had.

Also, if your post was about "how do i know the game did not sell that well in the EU" well i am in 5 guilds, the maximum online people i see now is 30% or less of what it used to be at launch... also a common topic in those guilds is "a lot of people left".

    Don`t care.
I've only been part of the community for a month and I've seen a huge drop in activity rates just over the last three weeks. The talk has been disgust about broken and OP classes and broken PvP mechanics. Now the massive multi-game PvP oriented guild I joined has very few peeps participating in TESO.

I love TES, even if this is an MMO version of it, it's not bad. Problem is it's not great and incentive for NBs and Temps to PvP is limited due to broken NBs and unbalanced DK's and Sorcs.

Honestly, I don't expect classes to be perfectly balanced. Life isn't that way and a game doesn't have to be balanced IMO so long as all the classes are fun to pay by those that like playing those archtypes. Sadly that's just not the case now though.

TESO, just get it fixed. Your prioritization on this seems really off base. The PvP elements are more important than you seem to realize.

One that subject...more open world PvP. Expand it beyond Cyrodil. Free us from these Chains! :-)

Best wishes guys. hope you get your game fixed.

Not sure where people get the idea that a company letting a few hundred temporary customer service jobs go, means that they are in trouble.

Do people honestly not know what temp work means?

I understand, that people are going to ask this, after reading that news article. Makes perfect sense if done rationally, and not as part of a loaded agenda one way or other.

But, I still feel the servers will be moved based on what we have. Should any new information happen, I would review the situation again.

As for WHEN though, that is still up in the air for me.

They got rid of 300 people because they can't have more employees than customers.

I don't know about that, but there are times that I'm sure there are more 'bots playing than there are actual humans playing.

Oh no, there aren't as many people paying to play the game as there were during the free month, and the developers have let some temporary staff go soon after launch. Some of them were let go just 2 weeks into a contract for, let me check the article, oh yes - 2 weeks.

Nothing new there. We get the same overblown stuff on forums with every MMO launch.

Other than some temporary contractors coming off and on at various stages, we have had no change in our staffing and are still hiring. Our future plans, such as moving the European megaserver to Frankfurt and launching ESO on the next-gen consoles, are not impacted.

Ah, the doomsaying prophets are gathering all over this thread I see ...

The EU server will be in GERMANY. The job losses were in IRELAND.

It's likely that they were laid off as they were hired as extra Customer Service for the Console version. Console version is delayed. No need for Customer Service reps. Harsh? Yes. But that, boys and girls, is business.

Let me ask you a question; feel free to answer:

Why would 300 barely trained temporary workers being laid off in Ireland have anything to do with the relocation of a mega-server, a project which requires the talents and training of specialized technicians with years of experience, to Germany?
