I've been playing some other recently released MMOs and they make ESO feel 15years old in terms of game design.

PS: Not tyring to troll, but the very least thing you could have done, @korkibucek, is to explain what you think the term "next gen" means to you in regard to MMOs. And no, ESO isn't remotely a 'next gen' MMO, nor is hype-of-the-moment WIldstar either.
I'd suggest GW1 beat ZOS by years, the regional servers were clearly comparable to the mega-servers and you could freely move your character between them, not like here.Gern_Verkheart wrote: »Yes, only because of the megaserver system.

free targeting MMOs have been out there for a while... ESO isn't serious about it...

Subscription cancelled due to the following facts:
- Zenimax implements more bugs from patch to patch
- Zenimax does not care about the increasing instability of the game. People have more and more crashes Fix of memory bug decreased number of crashes considerably
- Zenimax has still not fully fixed the fps drops they (!) implemented with patch1.2.3
- Zenimax does nothing to fix the massive ability lags in PvP
- Zenimax gives more attention to unnecassary 'content' like dyes for armors than fixing issues
- In patchnotes Zenimax lies about bugs allegedly fixed
- Zenimax has no plan as to how balance population in Cyrodiil campaigns
- Support is ineffective and does not even speak in a way one can linguistically understand1 -

It does not have dueling, AHs, underwater swimming, a law system, a real open world, housing, guild bank options, a functional bank system, etc.

As for ESO, I would not classify it as such, even if we could agree on what that elusive term means.
What it tries to do is open the unique and much liked world / environment of the Elder Scroll series to a wider audience by making it "multi-player" (although most of the time it still feels "single-player").
Personally I believe it is a good attempt and in that aspect has been fairly successful. The sad thing is, it could have been a lot more successful. If it had not messed up in several key areas. And if the very irritating problems were addressed (and acknowledged) much faster (because they should be a life-or-death priority). Enter... ridiculous VR content / difficulty that is very unappealing to many players, and, yes, terribly biased "class / build selection" (if there is such a thing really).
Granted, it is still the "early days" and many people have patience. But not for too long. And by the way, most people voicing concerns, are not doom mongers. They would love to see ESO being super successful and fulfill all its promises. But... no one is willing to wait a few more months or more to start seeing results and actually enjoy the game fully, the way it was hyped and with all the key features it promised to deliver.0 -

Swordguy✭✭✭Notheres nothing next gen about this game. Mega server tech was done years ago by TSW, and done more competently from the get go. Grouping tools suck. no LFG/LFT. No Global AH. Pay2Play Business Model. Graphically outdated (although art direction and lighting effects are up to date). ad naseum.
The only thing next gen about this MMO, is that it released in an "Early Access" state, which seems to be all the rage these days with next gen.IN SOVIET RUSSIA, GUN LOADS YOU!

It's an MMO, ok, fine.
It has not the most actice combat system, it has a class system, it doesn't allow players from different factions to quest together,... nah, not quite the game which screams "innovation!" at me.

For me, in no particular order and in relation to ESO it means:
1. Great graphics and an engine that fully utilises the power of modern tech. ESO graphics are pretty fine but the engine in no way utilises the power of my 64 bit quad core, 16GB RAM rig.
2. An evolving, changing world. ESO swings and misses spectacularly for the simple reason they have allowed it to over-ride grouping to such an extent as it has. It should not matter what level or what stage of the story people are on if they want to group.
3. Built to prevent botting and exploiting from the ground up. I need make no comment here.
4. Enhanced support for sociability from guilds to grouping. ESO doesn't swing and miss here, it just sits there on the bench refusing to play.
5. Breadth of game-play. Nope. Crafting was interesting but limited in scope. PvP is effectively gated through the unpleasant VR grind.
6. Full RP support. Goes out of its way not to support it with phasing, no speech or name plates etc.
7. flexibility of gameplay and character. Great from 1-50 then throws the whole concept under the bus once you hit VR.
8. Great customer and support service. Hah.
9. Quality of initial release (which was one of the things promised). Instead we were given yet another example of the abysmal standards of the industry, compounded by some pretty awful patching issues.
But despite all this it is for me a great game up until VR. Had a lot of fun and will get my money's worth by the time my 6 month sub lasts.
I'm disappointed because I was expecting a lot more. I was hoping for the quality, breadth and depth that would keep me here for years like LOTRO did.
Instead it turned out to be like Neverwinter - a fun little game for awhile but too little of the good stuff and too much of the bad stuff.
But I live in hope it'll claw it's way to greatness eventually and if it does I'll be back unless I've found something better.3 -

For instance, Wildstar is a recently released game that uses tech from the early 2k's and is WoW's code almost verbatim. WoW is not next gen by any means.Edited by zeuseason on June 11, 2014 11:09AM3
