Well, of course I'm a writer, so my level of imagination is at a higher level than many. Do I live in the real world? I'd say so. Retired computer tech, married 45 years with 4 kids, 5 grandkids and 3 great grandkids.
I was only asking a simple question, not looking for a juvenile answer. I expect people to play the way they like, but I have been whispered quite a bit by people wondering how they could set it up like that.

I'm a writer too, but I don't think that makes our imagination at a higher level than many. I think lots of people have wonderfully vivid imaginations without having the ability or the desire to write it down. RPers have great imaginations. I don't know that you meant to be insulting, but it kind of was. Understandable considering some of the responses, but there's no need to sink to their level.

The toggle walk/run isn't set up as a hot key, so I would imagine a lot of people don't realize they can do it until someone tells them.

I don't like to rush through the game, either. I drive the hubby up the wall because I'll actually listen to the dialog when I'm talking to someone instead of reading through and clicking past it. If I'm exploring somewhere new, I'm actually pretty likely to walk because I want to see the new scenery around me. But in a town where I've gone through a hundred times, it's definitely a speed issue. I'm guilty of running a lot just because I want to get from one place to another more quickly.

On an unrelated note, it makes me happy to see not only a fellow writer but someone who has a few years on them. I'm in my late 40's, and it's great to know that I'm not the oldest one playing. :-) I hope that didn't sound insulting. It wasn't meant to be.

Everyone is running back to make a dump...LOL
we can't hold it all forever

this game is not like watch dogs where blending into normal walking people provides camo for you in the game

when they design the game so that people have to blend into normal NPC's to avoid getting pinched/robbed/or noticed by guards - because there is a bounty on your head then maybe there may be a reason to slow down blend in or sneak around

Because some people aren't lame enough to pretend they actually are the character on their screen. You picked the wrong game for larping bro.

Well, some people play roleplaying games because they like roleplaying... games.

I usually walk when I'm in town, but then I start feeling inferior because I don't have the hourglass figure and hypnotic hip-sway that my character does. Her boobs are way too big though, so she's not totally perfect! So there.

Hey, Rrood... You want a REAL test of your patience? Try walking from keep to keep in Cyrodiil. If you can manage that, you can manage anything. Lol. My horse has a run speed of 75%, and the time it takes for me to get between keeps STILL drives me insane.

And I'll still smack anyone around in PvP.

Regardless of how "lame" I am for enjoying immersion.

I only have time to play a few nights a week so I run everywhere. I do sometimes feel like I'm passing by so much in the world without stopping to look. Tonight when I log on I might try and slow things down a bit and actually take more time to look around.

I spent all 50 upgrades of my gaited horse on speed , exactly because i prefer to go fast.

Only reason im not using the fastest horse , is because i wanted the black one :P.

Practicality wise, ignoring horses and wayshrines, running is a legitimate option when you just need to go from point A to point B for a certain purpose, regardless of whether you are in town or in the wild.

It is obviously not necessary when you are not after a specific objective.

Even RP-wise it is not entirely unjustified.
Inside a town, just like in real life, you are often in a hurry and need to make multiple trips from the bank to the market or so. Obviously you don't need to run when you are at the inn having a drink, unless you're heading towards the (non existent) bathroom, but there are daily mundane chores most people just try to get over with as soon as possible.
In the wild, for those who don't fancy themselves Conan the Barbarian, it is the logical thing to do, when not sneaking to scout. Even when exploring, no reasonable adventurer would just unnecessarily dilly-dally in a place filled with all kinds of monstrosities, with bonus dark anchors or random clouds spawning things from Oblivion. If a character wants to sit back and admire the scenery, they do so at a place which is free of nearby hostiles. And those who do fancy themselves overly manly men just don't mind running into a pack of wolves. They throw in a battle cry and charge.

I usually sneak throughout cyrodil (all the way over the map if necessary). Takes ages. Not sure how sneak speed compares with walking speed.

Oh, it started before that, I would imagine. The impression is that writing is easy, no boss, just crank out that bestseller and get rich. That may happen to some, but it's one of those dreams reserved for the lucky/talented few (and how many perfectly good manuscripts might sit unpublished because the author has no contacts and no idea they need an agent to get anywhere?)

Best bet is always to be something else for a living, and just do your thing as a hobby; most successes I heard about were of people doing what they did for fun, and then just happening to show the finished product to the right person.

Inspired by this thread, I went to look for that toggle walk setting and mapped key. Damn it is slow to walk once got used to jogging and you can also do it with horse. Though already thinking of suggesting walk only session with friends.

Has someone started international walking day in eso?
