I was only asking a simple question, not looking for a juvenile answer. I expect people to play the way they like, but I have been whispered quite a bit by people wondering how they could set it up like that.

I'm a writer too, but I don't think that makes our imagination at a higher level than many. I think lots of people have wonderfully vivid imaginations without having the ability or the desire to write it down. RPers have great imaginations. I don't know that you meant to be insulting, but it kind of was. Understandable considering some of the responses, but there's no need to sink to their level.
The toggle walk/run isn't set up as a hot key, so I would imagine a lot of people don't realize they can do it until someone tells them.
I don't like to rush through the game, either. I drive the hubby up the wall because I'll actually listen to the dialog when I'm talking to someone instead of reading through and clicking past it. If I'm exploring somewhere new, I'm actually pretty likely to walk because I want to see the new scenery around me. But in a town where I've gone through a hundred times, it's definitely a speed issue. I'm guilty of running a lot just because I want to get from one place to another more quickly.
On an unrelated note, it makes me happy to see not only a fellow writer but someone who has a few years on them. I'm in my late 40's, and it's great to know that I'm not the oldest one playing. :-) I hope that didn't sound insulting. It wasn't meant to be.
If I could run all the time IRL I would run. Who the hell wouldn't?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgnJ8GpsBG8
I run clear across Tamriel.
I play 1 hour every two days I'm level 33 and it's fine. I enjoy the game and I'm not to speedy as everyone says the game is over at 50 the veteran level are damn no fun and too hard... eventually I'll see by myself

A huge part of my guild (BoR) falls into this age group and like me, many are fifty or older.
Personally, like Skyrim, no horses in cities.
Because some people aren't lame enough to pretend they actually are the character on their screen. You picked the wrong game for larping bro.
I'm a writer as well. That's not a valid argument.
I run because I can.
I like to walk my character to throw folks off. They treat my character like an NPC, thinking they cant just run through it.
... Try walking from keep to keep in Cyrodiil. If you can manage that, you can manage anything. Lol. ...
