CRAZY LAG - Eso is UNPLAYABLE!

xshadowclawzz12
My computer is decent, it can run skyrim on ultra without lag but nothing more than that really. But eso? NOT A CHANCE. I play on the EU server and I haven't been on my account for like a month or two because of some real life stuff i'd rather not discuss. But I just logged in and holy crap, the lag is so bad playing with medium graphics is almost unplayable and I still get lag on the lowest setting. I have always experienced a little bit of annoying lag but now it's so crazy it's unplayable. I asked a guild mate and he said he has a good comp (not sure of the specs tho) and that he also has lag and that it's the server. This NEEDS to be fixed. I'm luckily getting a new comp with a 780 Ti but if it's the server that is this bad i'm not even sure if I'll get a lag-free eso then either. What the heck is causing this?

What's your fps? Normally the lag is connection based and not so much due to your computers hardware. Especially if you are getting lag in low settings, unless you are on a laptop with an nvidia card, in which case your optimus system probably changed back to the integrated card instead of the nvidia.

The EU servers are in the US and I suspect that, that's the major culprit for server lag.

I play in the US and despite this I have to say I'm disappointed our EU players don't have dedicated servers yet; we were told this would be addressed: can anyone from ZoS give us a real timeframe? This is long overdue.

    Here's my fps:
    ultra - 6-7fps
    Medium - 14-16fps
    low - 32-36fps
    minimum - 65 fps

It's 6 FREAKING FPS on ultra .... what the actual ####!!???
Yeah... and it's NOT my internet that is doing it, my internet connection is very good.
I don't know how but now it doesn't lag on minimum. It's a good 65 fps now for some reason. Which is good but should be WAY MORE still.

As a noob here I don't quite get what you meant with the 2 latest sentences. I do have nvidia. How can I fix this then?

It surely is, and it is unbelievable they would not get it transferred to the EU before launch. Especially when they've added it to the "To do" list. Why not just do it before and avoid the game breaking lag, and what I imagine will be several days non playing time for the EU. Absolutely senseless.

If the EU server is in America, and I know my guild has some EU people connected to the NA server and get much better frams then that....i say just come to the NA server....fixed!

Yup, I play on EU server from UK and the lag issue started in that now Infamous patch that broke everything.
It ain't your computer as mine is an Asus G750 laptop that used to play ESO on Ultra settings and it now lags and stutters the game like hell.

Well that's really bad because then not even my new comp that i'm getting soon (it's a really high-end build with a 780 Ti :D) won't be able to play eso on ultra. That's a shame because I was so looking forward to a completly lag-free eso on a 24" full LED monitor :) I though it was gonna be an awesome. But it probably won't be before zenimax freaking does something. I used to have faith in them because they seemed to listen and in one way they have, they've implemented so much that we've wanted. But when they promise (yes they did that, google it) a lag-free launch and that pretty much all bugs (especially quest bugs) were going to be fixed and it turns out to be the complete opposit, so much that the game is unplayable by many, my faith starts to lower a lot...

Lol, my faith went when game bugs that I reported nearly a year ago went live with the launch.
I stand by my claim that ESO was about 6-12 months to early out of Beta because the suits wanted their cash quickly.....like every other MMO where corporate are involved, they just don't get that a game released broken is a short lived cash cow.
My new hopes are on Shroud of the Avatar, the new game from Richard Garriott, looks promising with player housing and all (basically a 3d version of UO) over $4 mill from crowd funding so the suits have little input too ;)

In the nvidia control panel goto 3d options and under the programs tab look for ESO.exe or whatever it actually is (never paid attention to that) and then chage the settings from auto, integrated to dedicated nvidia. that should fix it for you.

I have the complete opposite problem you have my laptop has a program on it which causes it to always run with nvida graphics which is horrible for battery life

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that was the first thing I tried.
It don't make a difference to the ingame lag/stuttering. It's Rift all over again.....(thou that was an AMD issue but the same sort of thing, there trying to please every graphics card manufacturer and it don't work).

Do you have any addons installed from before? I know there's a few of them that used to cause bad lag (not sure how they work now), the one from ESOhead is an example. Try disabling them and see if it'll get better.

I'm also in EU on EU server and I do not have lag that bad. Annoying latency, yes, as well as the occasional 2-10 second lagspike but that's it.

that is interesting, I haven't experienced any fps drops or lag (im using a msi gs70) I play on max settings without problem however on my other laptop msi gt640 it barely runs at medium. The only game I really have trouble running at max is watch dogs (amazing game, insane requirements). Good luck with solving your issue

Just a thought, but have you considered that maybe its not your computer and maybe your internet connection?

no lag or fps drop here so eso is playable

Well, if the problem is he's trying to play on ultra and only getting 7 fps, then the lag he's experiencing is most likely fps lag. What are you computer specs? Laptop/desktop? graphics card? I know you said you have an nvidia card and they can be kinda wacky in laptops if that's the case, although it's fixable if this is the issue :)

EDIT: I have an Asus g46vw. It has a nvidia gtx 660m in it and runs at 60+ fps with all settings on high, never tried ultra. Sometimes with the nvidia cards it gets confused and won't use the right graphics card for certain games. My eso did that back in beta and I had to fix it.

I have sometimes latency (or maybe packet loss) issues since release on EU servers, in pvp but also in pve.

Make sure you play the game without your launcher, close it during gameplay.

    LOL. I'm running at 35 - 60 on ultra at 2560x1600 I don't know about the rest.

I have spent a few $s on my machine so it will do that.

A fast, no lag connection, makes my lag experiences very rare. It's been weeks since one killed me.

I don't play with the launcher open anymore either.

I noticed after the Craglorn patch subsampling had become more demanding. There's no question that patch introduced memory leaks and server lag/problems not present before.

Thank you :) I can now play on high with just a bit of lag. It isn't ultra but it's still pretty good. I actually think that it may be my computer. I'm luckily getting a new one very soon (gtc 780 Ti :D). Sorry for the late reply tho

I get random lag, most of the time I'm fine, but I get bad lag at random times, sometimes for seconds sometimes for minutes. Which is why I haven't tried PvP yet.
