Texture resolution difference between Mac & PC

First off, a big THANK YOU to Zeni for fixing the weird clay Mac texture issues! It was freaky to say the least!

However, as I switched to PC for a while, I noticed that even on exactly the same video settings, the textures on PC were much sharper, especially on the horses. I could see the hair pattern on the PC horse, and the details in the eyes.

Left image = Mac, right image = PC

Going back to Mac after the fix, I noticed it even more as the horses have never looked that sharp on the Mac - like it's referencing the next mip down instead of the full-res texture. The normal map is similarly blurry. No hair pattern and details in the eyes here. Even on the same settings.

I've fiddled around with all sorts of things to get the horse texture sharp on the Mac, but nothing works. I also noticed that the rain shader doesn't work at all on the Mac, but looks sweet on the PC.

Any chance that this could be looked into at some point? I know it's not game-breaking or anything, but as I'm looking at my horse's bum for quite a bit of the game... ;)

What? You mean Macs aren't good for gaming? This is quite the shocking revelation.

Make sure you set the "Graphics Quality" dropdown to "ultra", or whatever you can run, before fiddling with settings. If you set the dropdown to "low", then bring every other option back to max settings, the game will look bad compared to setting the dropdown to "ultra" first.

Thanks, this did work quite well - on everything but the horse!

I use Mac and PC in pretty much equal amounts - I use high-end iMac with Bootcamp on, and I have the game installed on Mac and PC side, so I can play regardless of what the computer's set to! I'm just really asking for some consistency between the Mac and the PC clients.

The only thing I've found that fixes the horse is to edit UserSettings.txt and change
SET MIP_LOAD_SKIP_LEVELS "0" to "-3", but then memory usage will skyrocket..

    How much?
ESO only uses like 1-2gb of ram and likely 1-2gb of gpuram.
Watch dogs uses like 3-3.5 of both system and gpu ram.

With the memory leak in the Mac client.. enough to make the game crash in 30 minutes instead of hours :(

The VRAM skyrockets, not the RAM.

I tried this as well and it didn't change the horse texture at all for me. Still blurry. It slowed my game don quite a bit, so I set it back to 0 - nothing I've tried has improved the horse textures at all. :(

What makes this worse is the bridle being painted directly onto the face texture. As a texturer, I understand why it was done to keep poly-count down, but in cases like this, it just looks Bad. I end up feeding my horses stamina food to get the armoured face-plate to cover up the horrible low-res face!

All these anti-Apple troll posts are not constructive - just keep quiet and move right along please.

I use my Mac for art related stuff as doing artwork on the Mac is far superior (and the Mac version of Photoshop less buggy) and also for writing, which I do a lot of. I like having the option of Mac and PC for whatever I need to do. Mac does some stuff better, PC also does other stuff better - with this iMac I have the best of both worlds - usually.

I run Bootcamp PC on the same machine to cater mostly for my gaming needs and game modding. I have ESO installed on both, so I can play regardless of whether I'm in MacOS or Windows. I would like my game to look and perform the same way on both.

How difficult is that for some of you people to understand?

I wave my iPad angrily at you! :D

I did catch your PS question just before you got rid of it - the biggest and most annoying bug I have on Windows with it is the pressure sensitivity with my tablet. If I'm painting hair (which I do a lot of with khajiit and horse skins) I work pretty quickly and every so often the PC gets confused and puts a huge blob of colour down like an inkblot! I'm usually several hairs ahead by the time it appears on the screen! Talking of which, Mac Photoshop keeps up better with my work speed than PC. :)

Anyway, something else I noticed just recently while mounted and next to a stable horse - the low-res thing is only affecting horses with riders:

    2135-170614144837-47922982.jpeg

    2135-170614144841-479231007.jpeg

    2135-170614144845-47924855.jpeg

It's almost like its assigning one mip lower to the ridden horses - and this applies to any horse with a rider, not just mine - and the normal res to the stable horses. I know it's a minor thing, but it's really bugging the hell out of me because I'm a texturer for a few games, including horses for Oblivion, Skyrim and Morrowind's horse mod.

This low-res treatment to ridden horses means that I can see the tail seam on my horse's bum all the time! It must be a bit of code in the Mac client that isn't there in the Windows one, or a line that isn't working quite right somewhere.

My Bootcamp isn't working right at the moment so I'm playing on the Mac all the time right now and hence, this is bugging me! Makes my fingers itch to fix it! :D

However, the rain shader appears to be fixed in this latest patch! :)

At zbrushcentral.com/forumdisplay.php?101-Other-Questions-And-Troubleshooting-Forum there was a question about the same problem with ZBrush and the pressure sensitivity, the solution was, to deactivate the Windows tablet service there is an issue with the wacom drivers. After that I had no pressure sensitivity problems more except PS or ZBrush.
Maybe it's a help to you.
