Some people actually look different kind of game to play than the previous one they played. It's perfectly ok to like many kind of games.
ESO isn't very different from wow apart from the fact that there is just very little that makes you log on day after day apart from Cyrodiil pvp if you like that sort of thing.

Doesn't have anything to do with that, but you already knew it.

WoW was a WRECK the first 6 months of release. hahah. WAY WAY WAY WAY worse then ESO's darkest day so far.

WoW brought the genre to the masses and all it's launch problems stems from basically not realizing how popular it would be: they were surprised as heck at the amount of people wanting to play and did not have the server cap to handle it. They got on it fast and actually spent the sub $$ to fix the issues. Imagine that!

Anyways, I had no real issues past the first couple weeks of lag in WoW and that's it. You must have been either not playing, making stuff up, picked a bad server, or simply just remembering wrong. Subs went up and up as time went on. Can't say the same here, most definite signs of people leaving; it is noticeable.

Now the difference here is this....I WANTED to play WoW despite it's launch problems...me and my lan mates would sit there hours on end trying to log on. We got hooked big time and we all ended up playing for 6-7 years too....

Then compare to ESO where after 1 month, I detest the game...I have not played in near a week and I don't miss it one single bit. Now I moved to WS...which is awesome imo but let's not go further with that (hint, TRY IT!). ;)

In end I just conjure up in my mind that ol 80s commercial for wendys where the old lady comments to the clerk about a crappy burger she is given that sums up how I feel about ESO....

    "Where's the beef?"

Most this game's 'content' is quests....where almost all of them can be (are) botted. /laugh!

Can this all change? Maybe but when it comes right down to it...the basic design of ESO is flawed to it's core and I severely doubt things will improve a whole lot other than bug fixes but you never know. I will make sure to check back once this goes F2P in a year or less though. Ha!

p.s. this long and boring reply was brought to you by a person who paid a whole lotta money just to play the forums (again). 2 months to go! I will give one bit of props to the devs...this MMO made me not want to play it no more in record time. Usual duration before I throw in the towel on a mediocre MMO is 2-3 months...you did it in 1. Impressive!

And another one who PROVES ESO is a different type of MMO, just like WoW is a different type of MMO.

There might be, but I highly doubt that the player who enjoy one of these games, will enjoy the other. Because they are 2 different types!

I am starting to wonder if there are people who think everyone must like the same things about games?

I really dont like WoW since about two expansions, but ESO is not different in the Way WoW was different.
WoW draws people into it, from the beginning and even now. Maybe it is different people now but still.

In ESO i get the feeling, the only designer who grasps what mmos are about is the one responsible for PVP.
The Rest of the game tries to be different, but only is in areas where it would have been smarter to not be different.

Actually Vanilla WoW and ESO are not different League but different game when it comes to combat responsiveness and design of mechanics and even balance.

I would love it if ESO would be a game different to the current MMO Design, but it is not. And with being a themepark MMO like every other, with the same quest grind (voice acting and clicking of things instead killing things is not different) just worse and uncreative dungeon design and sloppy combat design thats some *** between action oriented and tab target, with laughable 6 tactical choices (12 if you want to die due to lag). Also it is missing every quality of life feature that i can think of in other MMO's.

It does not deserve to even be compared to WoW. (And to say it again, i can not stand wow.)

Lots of people obviously like the questing and story etc.pp., thats fine, but maybe you should compare it to games that are proud of their quests and story, and not to MMO games that even allow to skip most of their quest grind and provide different level paths.

All of the above is the reason why ESO can either prove that you can sustain subscriptions with bad MMO but good storyline/fluff design or it does what i expect - go down or f2p

There is a reason why people pay subs for a long time
UO - persistent world, player interaction, pvp
EQ - Raid endgame, player interaction, social bonds
DAOC - PVP endgame, player interaction
WoW - Raid endgame, fluid design, lots of quality of life, soloability up to raidgame, PVP subgame
Where i wrote player interaction it means it is designed into the game, parties make sense.
All of the above allow or promote grinding.
Most of them allow more levelling paths than quest grind.

1.5 million copies sold.this is based on a 4:1 ratio of the physical copies sold.

The problem isn't number of current subs. They had enough sales that they have a reason to support the game.

The problem is when people hit VR they quit because it's improperly balanced. Those people will never come back.

Not necessarily. Los of folks return to MMOs after initially dropping their subscription.
