Randomly dying while fighting mobs?

Earlier tonight I noticed that while fighting some mobs, I would randomly die despite having almost full health. I'm a tank, full purple VR12 gear, 2100 armor 2000 Spell resistance, and 2600hp. The mobs were VR7 archers. I would block on the heavy attacks, dodge the power attacks, ect. However, my character would randomly fall over dead when I just had full or almost full health. Even the death recap just showed hits for 100 each. Hardly enough to kill me.
This is definitely a big issue, and I've never had this happen before.

✭✭I'm just a regular lowbie, and I've had 'toons die after I killed everything in the AO, and I've had at least 20% on all 3 bars at the time of death.
The more I play, the more I feel that this beta is just a rough approximation of what they hope the 'game' someday evolves into.
I get killed by too many crocs and tigers that are 20 meters away.
I have to reload the UI many times an hour,
I frequently can't loot the next body without relogging after the last kill.
And as you say, we can die at any time, and for no apparent reason. This is a visual game. I rely on visual cues to determine my options and tactics. If the devs can't be bothered to get the visual cues right, and have them mean something representitive of actual game play, like health/magicka/stamina bars, whats the point in showing up to play?
I can read a bad book and end up with the same unsatisfyed feeling at the end of the night.
And I can generally do it for less than $16/month, too.
Oh, the game is getting better, and they're making changes/fixing things?

Some of the NPCs out there in the veteran zones (except Craglorn) are doing HUGE dps in AoE attacks and the DoTs kill you instantly.
You can have an idea with this screenshot of mine, you can see I'm taking almost no damage (armor, spell res, blocking, dodging) but in less than 1 second my VR9 Char is dead with something like this:
There are several threads about this problem since Craglorn patch, the hotfix was supposed to fix it, I don't know if the admin sunk the threads as they did with others because they are not showing on the 1st page anymore like was in the last 2 weeks, at least 2 threads about this problem in the 1st page of the forum, but not anymore.
Go figure...

When I run into one of those I find I'll have to execute the fight flawlessly or I will get one-shot, no room for mistakes, at all. Trouble is I can't tell which ones, a boss can be really easy but any random NPC can be instant death.. kind of sucks.

Slash8915✭✭✭✭✭But on your screenshot, you see the crazy one-shot damage. On mine, it just showed hits for 95-110 each. Nowhere near enough to kill me, yet i would go from full health to 0 out of nowhere.1

✭In the past, a bug happened where the server thought your dead but the client thought you were alive. This allowed you do be in a funny state (walk around but not cast) To fix this, the server now sends a 'dead' packet forcing your client to 'catch up' and die.
When there is high lag (server or network issues), the server things your dead, but the client does not. On the client side, you dodged that attack and used that heal. But the server thinks you just stood there and took it and died.
So now, you get the 'dead' packet catch up, it just appears that you randomly died.(the death summary screen only shows what the CLIENT thought hit you in the last few rounds, not what the SERVER knows hit you and killed you). All of this is caused by the new side-server lag and network packet lost. Some zones appear worst then others. Do you find this happening more often then not in one zone?
They need to change the 'dead' packet, to also include an updated summary of what killed you, or your 'death summary screen' only shows you got killed by 100 damage arrow instead of that 2000 damage power attack that your dodged but the server did not know you dodged and killed you insteadEdited by Natjur on June 8, 2014 10:48PM3 -

✭✭They have claimed the Death Recap is showing all damage done over time as if it was one tick, my guess is that for some things it is also applying it all to the player in one tick.
Other things just hit real hard in VR since they broke it.0 -

Its an AOE, your supposed to move out of it. DoTs are reported as single hits by the death recap so if you stand in the red like a dummy it will report a massive hit.
I think you are missing the instant nature of these deaths... As in combat begins and less than one sec later you are dead with messages like the one in the screenie. People are not standing in the red like statues they don't have time to move before well over 1,000 damage has been applied, often from several sources leading to instant death.
It has only been happening since they broke VR with the Craglorn release so I doubt it is working as intended.
In addition anothe break in this is with npcs using Blood Craze, if players use it they only get one dot applies without stacking, i have been hit by an npc 3 times by it and for them all damage hits in one tick so the 3 Blood Crazes hit for nearly 500 each in instantly applied damage.
Its all very well calling people dummies but you should try looking at the facts first.3 -

I will not bother answering that comment, directly. If he/she pays attention to that screenshot, on the background darkened image, you can see 5 (five) undead NPCs, I can explain that because I was soloing my way through Hall of the Dead, a group dungeon, VR9 Eastmarch, to get the skyshard on it. The funny thing is "I stand in the red like a dummy" enough time, according to him/her, but the other 3 NPCs didn't have time to hit me all that time...

Elvinfire✭✭Did you learn Soul Explode (or something)? For a while after I learned it, I would get killed and the speakers would explode, followed by silence, followed by death, and i would go like WTF, and wonder whats going on. After a few of these, I realized it was ME and my toon upgrade choices. Go Figure....... :-)

zhevon✭✭✭✭There are bad,bad,bad sync problems even during non-peak hours. I will totally be out of the red area when an AOE spell goes off and will be hit anyway. Often I have to hold the interrupt or block for 1-2 seconds until it fires to be caught; that means that I have to stand like an idiot being hit [by other mobs]. Yeah, I have made a thread about this same problem in the VR zones and people in my thread just said I dont know how to play. Pffft! >.<

Pele✭✭✭✭✭I've had insta-death happen as well. It was always in a dungeon, and does not happen often. Natjur sums up the cause of it quite well.
