What's the deal with epic food recipes
I have about 24 days /played time and haven't seen a single epic food recipe ( or at least not since the nerf a few weeks after release ). I have found about 10-15 rare motifs and countless green and blue recipes but no purple one. Now i understand that they should be rare, but does rare mean unobtainable? Nobody is publicly selling the food because the ingredients are only delivered by hirelings and they fail to do so most of the time (tomatoes and oats) and nobody is selling the recipe as far as i know.
Could we please get some information on this if they do drop or if there is some bug that makes them not drop at all?

✭✭✭✭✭I have been playing since early access and i have exactly one purple recipe, so they indeed are rare.
However the ingredients for it are not exclusively from hirelings. I know some purple recipes are like that but mine isn't, so it's not universally true.1 -
so what you're saying is not only are they incredibly rare but i also have to get lucky when i find one to not need any rare ingredients? hah great stuff.

I've seen the food for sale, and a few people selling the recipes. The lowest I've seen is 100k; the highest was 1,000,000—yes, one million gold.0 -

I agree. The purple food even has a disadvantage - while it raises all 3 stats, it raises them by less than the blue recipe raises two.
Like, you either get 180 to all stats, or 200 to two. If you don't care much for say stamina then blue magicka/health food is actually better for you.1 -

I care because I'm a completionist, and I want to learn every recipe available, but I don't mind the rarity of the recipes. I can wait to obtain them either by looting or buying.You dont need purple food, blue is good enough.

✭I only got 2 purple recipes since started playing on early access.
One was food level 40, the other is drink VR5. (which I found around level 30).
Blue cut it pretty well. Food we only need STA/MA because HP scales better with glyphs.0 -

The blue recipe would give you 312 to 2 stats so he is right.

On level 35:
purple: 180 to all stats
blue: 211 to two stats
green: 246 to one stat0 -

He wasn't asking for your opinion on how he should play the game. He was asking for information on drop rate and why some recipe ingredients are so rare. Get over yourself.
To answer OP: I don't know why they are so rare. Your problem could be anecdotal, though. I have found 2 (one fairly early and one about a week ago), and I don't farm for them at all. I would doubt we will get any serious answer to this from ZOS right now, though. There are too many things just totally broken about the game that need to be fixed before food is, sadly.2 -
yeah my guess is they will ninja fix it at some point and we will see them more often. let's hope it's happening soonish0

✭I never get any purple recipe drop, I got 3 out of 4 rare motif drop, but never purple recipe. Lol
