So today dual booted into Windows 8 to update some stuff and figured I'd see how ESO runs under Win 8 compared to Vista. Got the popup saying this PC wasn't recognized so my question is, will I be seeing that pop up a lot if I switch between Vista and Windows 8 a lot or once recognized will it continue to recognize both OS's?

This interestingly clearly demonstrates that in spite of ZOS assertions, the 'authority' check includes a finger-printing of the PC/OS itself .. and I wonder what else it sniffs while doing so?

I have two PCs and like @jazon1972_ESO have seen this but I put that down to the PCs having different MACs, I'm more than a little concerned ZOS are finger-printing the software on the PC.

Sounds like a good security practice to me. It's not like they are going to save your PC fingerprint and match you up to some hack in the future. Can you think of some negative to your "fingerprint" assertion? Just by using the word fingerprint you are going to have people going omg! Invasion of privacy. Maybe that is your intent. Dunno

MAC address spoofing or a simply IP check is far too easy to get around

yea recording MAC or IP is useless takes like 10 seconds for someone to change there pc's mac in there lan settings then clone it to there router and change the pc's again and finale measure change the IP by unplugging your modem for a half hour.im guessing they are also using your game instal HDD's serial as well that can also be spoofed in seconds.

i wouldn't be to concerned with them recording any of that info on your system pretty much any game you play online these days collect a lot more data then that..as a general rule these days dont do or have anything on your pc your not willing to share with the world, the days of internet privacy are long gone.
