There is this argument about not releasing figures because they are private company

    Rubbish mate absolute rubbish.

In Vanilla within 6 months it was a sticker on every box saying 4 million , then 5 etc

If the subs were impressive it would be everywhere absolutely everywhere . The only logical conclusion is that they are too low to disclose which worries me as I like this game very much

    You are halfly correct.

Private companies do not have to release any records what so ever then their finacials. And where the money comes from in a company is impossible to say without going through every single debit and credit.

Several people have already stated a very good rules among most MMO.

1st month: Lots of players. New games are fun and MMOs sometimes offers 30 days free. However, some people mistake this to be able to buy the game, get 30 days free, then full money back.

2-3 months: Less players. Several reasons. Players who just didnt like the game because it was not what they expected, wanted or simply didnt like it. This is very normal among alot of games. Not just MMOs.

3-6 months: Here you starting to get a feeling about the player base. About the game as a whole and how the company is running it. Still, to early in the MMO world to cast a verdict.

6 months +. Here you can start looking at player base. Even though most companies do not release these figures, its starting to show.

6 months to 12: First of all, ANY MMO that has a monthly fee for each account, will have such money problems if there are a low player base, that they change drasticly towards what to do next. Free to play, is not the only option.

IF any MMO with a pay per month to play, still is developing, expanding, adding new content and got communication in towards their player base. Then the MMO HAS well enough players for the company to continue in its business plan.

2 years of pay per month, per account = The MMO has players, new as old.

It is very important to understand that a successful MMO do NOT have to reach the giant success of WoW with 11.5 Mil subscribers at their top, and currently I believe its somewhere around 5 Mil.

Anyone who have noticed the message you get when you log on, which is information about how to make an account, ONLY means one thing. The game has sold more then "normal" amonths of new copies of the game.

There is no way they outsubed FFXIV.

No one had to wait log in times, no new servers even a new mega server was never bought. So no no 5m. 250k-750k maybe

On topic....at launch maybe 500k or so.

2 months later, betting they are lucky to have 200k at most. All I know is that crag was busy just after it was released and now it's totally dead just like all the VR1-10 zones are now too.

I agree with doggie, above. :) Great game, but there is a lot to be fixed.

Some very basic functions are not working well or need a new design, and should be addressed before they try to launch more content. They probably have deadlines, but the little things that bother people as they play the game is what will keep them from logging on.

Players will stay without new content for a long time, if they game mechanics are good and they feel it is worth it. But not the other way around. First things first.

as of now, I would throw a guess at 40-50k subs still active. consoles will be somewhat higher after a couple months, but likely will drop just like pc.

As a private company they don`t have to say... the only way they will say is if its a good number they can share with everyone as a "come play our game, look at how many millions are already playing it, join the fun"...

Since its clear the game is not doing so well based on the many offers to get it cheap i doubt we will see a sub number release for now.

When they do share it it might be to use it as an argument like "we only had this many subs, this is why we are moving to a F2P system".

Either way, a thread like this one won`t make them share it... best guess right now based on metric websites and average people quitting based on the guilds i am in would be about 300.000-400.000 subscriptions, some of them stuck like me + some guildies who bought more months at the start.

don't forget, people still on their first month of play time are technically not subs.

ESO cost just over 200% more than Skyrim to make, and maintaining an MMO costs very little these days.

My estimate is for actual subs, who are past their first 30 days of game time. I'm certain I'm near accurate in my guess.

Under-informed speculation on an MMOs subs. Even better, there are 2 more platforms that the game has yet to be released on. This might be the funniest thread yet. You guys may as well blindfold yourselves and throw darts at a board.

So someone said max number to fill up Cyrodiil is 500 per faction. So 1500 total. That explains what their expectations were with all the campaigns. Now look at the campaigns during prime time.

The mega server helps you feel like you're with people but Cyrodiil helps show you what it would be like if there was no mega server.

My opinion is between 50k and 100k.

after playing MMO's for 14 years, I know I have a decent grasp in numbers, and my guess of 40-50k of "Subcribers" (buying more game time after 30 days after purchase) is giving ESO more credit than due. only newbies to MMO's think 50k is small.

I think it will. That's too much cash to pass up. They'll probably conveniently convert to F2P right on time for the console release to add more appeal to the console version.

Well if it turns out F2P then possibly it might. I still don't see it. The cost of launching a game and putting up new servers probably won't justify putting it out on console.

there is probably a 6 month buffer between content development, and f2p integration. either they keep delaying console development, of they release and sell enough copies that they still make more money than they did with skyrim...

even though everyone knows zenimax is a holding corp for bethesda that was turned into an online gaming studio, my previous paragraph holds truth; they have royally screwed themselves over in terms of public opinion, as Zenimax & bethesda are one and the same, and they tried to slap on a different name in case ESO failed, but in the process underfunded and overworked the ESO Devs into releasing an unfinished Elder Scrolls Game. If any person, guy or girl, feels the ESO is a true and true elder scrolls game, they are deluded... case closed. My game time runs out in less then 24 hours, so F U All who support this atrocity, and may you go broke supporting this "game."

    It s low imho.

I unsubbed yesterday, BUT I am not quiting. I am just sick of lags in Cyrodiil. I want them to move EU server to EU. Once they do this I will resub. I would also welcome PvP booster balance. Current system is trash, which turns away majority if normal players. It is domain of powerlevelers and it is not good.

Another reason are Watch Dogs. I was waiting for the game for some time, so I want to have some time with it:-).

I will still watch ESO for news, so I know when to resub:-) (I think one or two month at most:-).

ZOS please work harder and faster, there is still much to explore for me in Tamriel! Fingers crossed.

    Watchdogs?

Get ready for an other disappointment.
    That's a sad fact.
