Armor Dying Looks Promising

So looks like with the dye system you have pen, brush, bucket. Based on armor crafting improvement, I would guess the pen is for the thin design lines and embossed emblems. Brush is for the rest and bucket is to do both/all?

I think thats the "eyedropper" tool, I forget the pc art term but for when you want to "pull"/copy an existing item's color and apply it elsewhere.

For example, a piece is black, and another is red. You can pull/copy the black and apply it elsewhere.
Ah, that would make more sense. The rest of UI looks well implemented too.

Armor Dyes does look promising, but the truth will be in the implementation...

Who will be able to Dye armor?

Will Dyes be crafted? By Who? At what (item) cost?

It looks like Dyes (or at least some Dyes) will be tied to achievements, how will one get those achievements? Will dye granted by the achievement require the achievement be repeated the next time you wish to use the dye?

Will Dyes be applied differently to different armor, to different armor types, to Different Crafting Types? Will I be able to dye/lacquer my weapons? (Dyes for Light and Medium, lacquer for Heavy, Stains for Wood)

Will Dyes, Like Traits, only be able to be applied when the armor is being crafted or can they be applied/reapplied later? will a light color dye cover a dark colored dye?

Will there be a separate "Wash" used to remove dyes?

A picture may be worth a thousand words, but the thousand words can explain a lot more things then the picture.
These seem like excellent questions for a future Ask Us Anything! ;)

with the cave eat : you wont get the color if you havent done the achievement
= no LvL1 will see the color for completing weekly trials
the same for other achievement based colors

Um ... what does this mean exactly? Why implement a dying station if you can't even use it?

Why kind of achievements unlock colors? Bal Foryen Explorer? Finding Skyshards? What exactly?

I think its funny and sad that a normal, happy, excited and enthusiastic ESO player creates a positive thread about a new feature that is clearly done by a team that handles art and not server side/ character balancing issues, only to have others come in and bad mouth the dev's for their "broken" character just because they can't solo group content.

    SMH.

Anywho, I for one am excited as well :D

The dye interface looks promising. How you acquire dyes does not. Achievement based accumulation? So now we have to play content we have skipped. Meaning pvpers have to pve and vice versa.

TESO is not anything near the play as you want game as it was advertised. Play as we want you to play.

More of this means G effin G.

C'mon, this really isn't how they're going to do it, right? I mean, how frustrating is that going to be for people? Can you imagine the achievement screens?

    Achievement Unlocked: Auridon Explorer
    Color unlocked: Chartreuse

    Achievement Unlocked: Covenant Cave Explorer
Color unlocked: A rather dull brown

    Achievement Unlocked: Stop Skooma Abuse
    Color unlocked: Tie-Dyed

I really don't think so. That would be the worst implementation ever.

They are doing it this way. Dyes will be given based on Achievements. I am not sure if they will be purchasable with Achievement points or automagically awarded as you describe. Either way, not something I like.

Really? I couldn't have been more facetious if I tried.

Let's pause for a moment and ask someone who knows to clear this up. Really. Is it tied to all achievements (at 630+) or only certain types of achievements? Are we getting points or are we locked into colors based on achievements?

Someone please explain this. Preferably someone whose name begins with a G.

I'm excited about this. I care quite a bit about what my characters look like, so this will help me to get each of them looking the way I want them.

I'm reserving judgment on the fact that dyes are achievement-based for now. I'll wait to see exactly how they implement that before deciding if it's a good idea or a bad idea. I mean if it's something like "get X dye after completing your 1st achievement, get Y dye after completing 5 achievements" then I think that'd be a good system. If the different dyes are tied to specific achievements, then I don't know that I think that's a good idea.

The gear in this game already looks quite nice. No stupid bright colours, oversized shoulders or lights like space lasers. The gear is all appropriate for the setting.

I'd rather they focused on other things, like balancing resources. Maybe improving grouping functionality. Different dev teams maybe, but there are so many things they need to fix before adding fluff like this.

Division of labor, and all. And my Orsimer armor with baby blue plate over pink chain mail begs to differ.

I would prefer that the dyes are tied to number of achievements too, mind you I would like to be able to buy them too.

It's possible they might have base colors everyone gets and the rest are unlocked via achievements. Who knows but I can't imagine everybody not having quite a few to work with. That is, unless the bugged missing achievements are in fact gone and not just invisible like they say they are.

How is dye going to be craftable and tied to achievements? Do we get recipes via the achievements?

Are mats going to be added? I figured it might be an extension of alchemy, but it sounds like it's going to be a new profession in and of itself. I hope dyecrafting doesn't use Alchemy materials, the way mats would overlap in Skyrim (some things were both food and alchemy mats; other things - like antlers - were alchemy AND hearthfire home decorations.)

The dye system DOES look amazing and I cant wait for it. My only gripe for it is the dyes you can only get through achievements.

I don't truly feel that its fair imo. Dye is dye, there shouldn't need to be some special achievement needed to unlock something basic like... black.

Either way it looks great but that's my opinion on it is that achievement locking dyes is meh

Although the whole ''based on achievements'' thing isn't so bad...it will at least prevent lvl 1 characters from running around in full black & gold sets pretending to be the ultimate bad-ass, which would have caused drama among high-level characters...
