ESO causing GPU heating issues

I'm hoping someone might have some insight on getting this resolved. I have an SLI setup with 2 750m GPUs. Both of which were running ok with temps around low 80*C. Now it seems that my 2nd GPU has been reaching upwards of 95*C ever since the Nvidia patch, but my other GPU sits around 75*C.

Now I've done nearly everything I can possibly think of to resolve this. I've rollback drivers thinking the new patch was the cause... no luck. I dusted the internals and elevated it with a laptop cooler with fans... no luck. I've tried underclocking the GPUs... no luck. The only time I see the temps within a safe range is when I lower the settings, but this didn't occur previously. At this point, I'm stumped and I'm thinking perhaps it's in need of some thermal paste.

Also, Nvidia hasn't released SLI profile for ESO which forces me to Force Rendering to the 2nd GPU... could this be why? However, it didn't do that before so maybe it's a combination of ESO's Craglorn patch and Nvidia's recent driver update?

Any direction would extremely helpful.

Run in full-screen windowed mode. I have 2 r9 290xs and they run hot in full-screen and normal in full-screen windowed.

Im running x3 GTX 770s on 3 144 Hz screens. With everything ultra, my temps stay around 70-75c on 5760x1080p. Windowed set at 1920x1080p they stay at 50c.

You need more cooling plain and simple. Sucks you are restricted because of "m" series. Laptop coolers are basically useless in my experience.

I was able to keep my GPUs cool by mounting x2 120mm fans that run at 3200 rpm right along the side of the gpus, otherwise they would reach 90c too.

90-95c it too hot IMO. If i had temps that high I would stop playing until the game is optimized by nvidia, otherwise risk breaking your ***.

Thank you for the heads up but for whatever reason the game gets choppy and I'm not seeing frame drops with/without vsync on. Any ideas? Yea I'd be wary if I didn't have a warranty n honestly I'm considering converting to desktop since I have a work pc now. I love my laptop but it virtually stifles gaming on eso at least from a graphical stance.

I have found that as drivers and games change it is difficult to chase around what they do to GPU and CPU loads (which causes the heat). Got tired of the fan noise in keeping it cool also. That is also one reason I do not game on a laptop.

So I liquid cooled my GTX690 (and CPU) some time back.

Now the temps never break mid to high 40C's and I just run two big, slow, and quiet 200mm fans to move air through the radiator.

It costs to do but is worth every penny. I will never buy any GPU/CPU in the future that I cannot get a water block for.

So I tried windowed fullscreen and my temp is still absurd. I'm not sure what to do.

Nvidia just released it's official SLI profile for the game. Try the updated drivers.

Overheating is due to an inadequately cooled video card, not sure why you think a video game is the cause.

So turn your GPU fans up? (i.e. EVGA Precision)

Further you're talking about a Mobile graphics card (750m GPU). It's a laptop, it's going to get hotter than a desktop graphics card.

You should probably check out R6Sigma, it teaches people common sense.

@Dominoid I don't see their update. Are you referring to 337.88?
@KerinKor the game is the 'cause,' but the problem may very well be the lack of ventilation. Naturally, the video card generates heat under a load. I've noticed a 10*C+ delta between the two cards.

I understand it will run warmer with a laptop, but it has suddenly jumped 10-15*C for reasons unknown to me. At this point, I can only think it's the thermal paste on the 2nd GPU or an issue with the SLI profile, or lack thereof.

Yes. Another thread said the official sli profiles were released last night. I assume you have to apply it somehow. Not an sli person myself. Don't know if you can apply it without a driver update. I assume it comes with the driver. But you sli people probably know better

Does anyone know where to get the profile? Or is this automatically updated? I can't find a driver update on Nvidia's website, any ideas?

    Hi Relyk04,

I'm no expert, but it does sound like a physical issue with cooling, namely airflow (I assume your GPUs are air-cooled?).

Can you post a photo of the inside of your case? There's some simple tricks that can help, such as re-zip-tying cables out of the airflow, adding or upgrading intake fans, or adding internal fans just to re-direct more air the GPUs' direction.

Typically the problem I see people have is their case either lacks enough intake fans or has too much stuff impeeding the flow of air to the GPU. Desktop GPUs usually have their air intake pointing down so the airflow on the upper card is partially impeded by the presence of the lower card.

I did all of these things and get good temps (~57 C at max settings), but I also have a high airflow case, 10 fans, only one GPU, and a fan controller to reduce noise. What I did was very overkill--half of what I did will probably work for you . (What you can't see in the photo is I also have a fan zip-tied in the DVD-ROM bays, since I don't use a drive, for a total of three intake fans on the right)

    af5xujbhwhle.jpg

The other solution I'd suggest is shelling out the money for a good after-market GPU water-cooling loop. Again, GPU's are in a bad location for air-cooling (intake pointing down with other GPU in the way) and the only garenteed way out is water-cooling.

I hope some of this helps, sorry for long post,

    Wildfire

    EDITs:

Water-cooling, although it would give you great temps, is expensive. Even with pre-fabricated/self-contained units they sell these days it would probably still cost you $200 for both GPUs.

Simple air-cooling solutions such as re-zip-tying cabes and moving hard drives are free and often work. Doing that and adding a good fan or two (Scythe brand is my favorite for value, noise, and performance) will almost always work and only cost you about $12 per fan.

@Wildfire7‌ Thank you very much for your insight.... Unfortunately, I have a laptop which is likely my main issue lol. In truth, I'm in the process of creating a gaming rig as it is unrealistic to expect adequate gaming in a laptop. Although my laptop has a very powerful configuration (i7-4700mq, 750m SLI, 16GB ram, 1080p, etc), but I feel I can get much more utility out of a rig while sacrificing mobility. I never really take the laptop elsewhere anyway more out of fear than anything lol. I enjoyed your helpful feedback!!! Thank you!

@Kahina Awesome! Thank you! I will see if this resolves my heating issue then go from there. I'll keep y'all posted! Thanks again!!!
