Changes to the Private Message System

In order to combat private message abuse by spammers, we have applied several new restrictions to the system:
  • PMs now have flood control, the same as posts and threads.
  • New accounts will not be able to initiate PM conversations. The ability to do this will unlock over time.
  • Email notifications for PMs have also been turned off by default. You may elect to re-enable them for yourself by going here.

    Is it possible to introduce a report button in the message field for spam/inappropriate messages?
    Add a dab of lavender to milk. Leave town with an orange and pretend you're laughing at it.

    Over time is great. Nobody needs to send a PM that badly. I never use the PM function personally.

    They are not actual emails. They are PM notification emails. If you turn it back on then you are to blame if you get a PM notification email of a gold seller. Leave it off. I have not once received a PM from a gold seller. I also have had PM notification emails turned off since during beta.

    I'm just glad I can finally delete the gold spam PM that put a red "1" next to the inbox link. It was there for weeks.

    Good to hear, i also havent seen any gold spam or gold mail in-game these last 2 days, good job Zenimax :D

    We have not had a single message ( spam ) sent to us after the changes were made. Hooooraaayyyyyy! and thanks!

    Glad you got rid of your red notification from the spam message, mine's still there! The message has gone but I can't find a way to shift the notification.

    It should have cleared when you went into your profile and on the left sidebar clicked "notifications" to look at the list.

    If not, talk to staff.

    Hey, @Catman14‌. We're sending you a message. Read it and delete it, and the phantom "1 unread" should disappear.

    I'm still having a spam message in my notifications, and I cannot find any way of deleting it - no cross pops up on mouseover or anything.

    This is a know issue, and a fix is still being investigated.

    I've got two gold spams in my Inbox but I don't see any way to delete a message.
    How do I delete them?

    Nevermind. I discovered I had to OPEN the message in order to delete it.

    This is UNGOOD.

    When you open a message it might be able to transmit a virus.

    We should be able to delete messages without ever opening them if we so choose.
