LAG IN PVP

I would love to know what is going on with the lag/latency issues in PVP. PVE runs perfectly but the second you load into a Cyrodiil campaign everything goes to hell. When the game first launched it had its fair share of lag issues, but the game was at least playable. It has literally gotten worse every week, until now I cannot have fun playing. I've submitted a support ticket about this issue and didn't even receive a response. So I've created this discussion to raise awareness (not sure how ZOS doesn't know about it already). So I must ask, ZOS do you even know how many players you're losing because of this? I love this game and want to see it succeed. So please please please fix the lag. No one cares about balancing when you can't even draw your weapon.

Today's patch should fix this. I pray it does as the lag has been the worst its ever been and when it crashes the roll backs are infuriating. Hope this works!

Werent there beta players claiming 200 person battles "smooth as silk"? What happened to that?

If they don't get it right very soon I'll be canceling my sub.

It was pretty good in beta. You had the occasional lag but it was manageable. When they add new content that's when it seems to all go haywire, then they fix it, then new content, then its broke etc etc. Thats how it seems to have been since launch.

I have not experienced bad server lag in cyrodil. I don't play on wabba (na) though. Im curious if some people have their graphic settings too high for their computer to handle all the additional commotion tons of players at once creates.

Honestly, for me the lag only started after 1.1.2 came out. I remember MASSIVE battles, hundreds of players and 0 lag before then. Yeah, every now and then you would have a lag spike, but it was always a quick one that everyone on the server got at the same time so it didn't really change anything. This lag is very strange in that it seems to only be effecting the majority of players while a small fraction are unaffected by the lag.

With me now, with a decent comp that can handle skyrim on ultra, eso on medium is unplayable and on low there's still lag and it looks so bad I don't want to play it. I tried PvP back when the lag wasn't that bad as it is now with me but PvP was very bad even with just 20-30 people. Can't even imagine how PvP is now...

You know, I'd REALLY like to know what's going on with Wabbajack. You know, come clean with your playerbase ZOS. I'd settle for a letter from the game's director acknowledging that Wabbajack has been nearly unplayable for the last few weeks because of ____ and ___.
That kind of honesty would make me reconsider cancelling my account at the end of this month because of the overwhelming amount of balancing issues and technical bugs that shouldn't have been allowed to outlive the beta.

Other glaring issues also come to mind when it comes to choice of words. Booktext PR might prevent you from saying "look, we have a flawed game, many limitations are caused by our brand new untested engine and netcode." Or "we ran out of time and resources and the initial months are going to be an extension of beta." Or simply: "Some design choices simply did not work in the long term."

But am I alone in saying that most players prefer when the team admits their mistakes and keeps us up to date in a very regular basis? Not all players are hunting for developer posts in the forums. "The road ahead" is from May 1st. Over a month ago. As far as most players know, nothing else happened, unless they're actively searching for answers.

You guys seem to have a nice staff of friendly people (or/and you're very well trained). ESO is a great game WHEN it works. So going for the good old damage control mode and dodging the elephants in every room, and focusing on the positive things, well, all of that is actually counter-intuitive to keep subscriptions alive, as has been proved by the many companies that failed to provide a "mea culpa" when their numbers began to dwindle.

Just let us hear WHAT is going on, instead of a generic "we're aware of..." and "we're working on it...", while players are kept in the dark every so often.

Today's patch helped, but still super laggy. =c I fear by the time they fix it, or even address it for that matter, it will be to late.

Hero Engine is to blame I expect.

It was incapable of handling large scale PvP in TOR and thus we are seeing the same thing here. The same lag I got in Ilum is the exact same I get here. TOR was unable to fix it so they shut down Ilum instead. Enough said, I guess.

You have know idea what you are talking about. ESO is server side problems. Swtor was *** engine causing fps problems.

Latency (lag) = servers = ESO
FPS (lag)=engine and optimization = Swtor

ESO is optimized amazingly well, amazing. Their servers are complete garbage
    though.

AND Cyrodiil is 50 times better tonight. Still had spikes twice during a huge scroll run, but other than that it's been silky smooth.

    edit- well maybe not silky...

2nd day since patch and it seems to be a big improvement. Server almost at max pop with very minimal lag/latency. Still not perfect but a huge leap forward =).

Im pretty sure my graphics card did not cause the server to stutter then stop and boot everyone back 20 minutes.

You have no idea what YOURE talking about. Its not just latency its the *** FPS drops. Read around the forums for a bit and get yourself informed.

PS: NVIDIA geforce 780 GTX i7 960 @4ghz. Yeah I definately deserve those FPS drops to 5 frames in cyro! These *** cheap game developers going with a free engine.

We've identified the cause of lag specifically while in a group (including ability lag) and have a fix for it going in with v.1.2.3, which is going out next week.

I really look forward to seeing how this new patching will affect the game's performance. Currently, my cable internet and one year old gaming PC is struggling with maybe 20-30 toons on my screen. I've played other games where there were possibly 50+ toons involved with crazy abilities going simultaneously without a drop of lag.

I've finally made it to veteran levels and really wanted to hang with my guild in PVP but was pretty disappointed when I couldn't play without getting yanked all over the field or booted from "unknown errors." I really want to see this game do amazing but this does not bode well for a new game that had so much hype built up for it. Please fix the lag!! :(
